    Gwalior Fort is situated on an isolated rock, offering views of entire Gwalior town. Full ofmedieval architecture, the fort houses a number of historic buildings including Man Mandir, GujariMahal cum museum, Teli-ka-Mandir Temple and many others.

    To highlight the importance of this fort, the ndian !ostal "ervice has issued a postage stampwith a picture of the fort. t is one of the biggest forts in ndia and historical records state that itwas built in the #th century.

    Sas- ahu Temple

    The "as-*ahu Temple was constructed by the Gurjara-!ratihara 3ynasty of Gwalior in the //thcentury. The regional dynasty is called as the $achchhapaghatas and is known for startingwielding power. The name of the temple is a short form for "hastra *ahu, another name of 4ord8ishnu.

    4ocated near the eastern wall of the Gwalior Fort, the temple has idols of 4ord 8ishnu.

    7ai 8ilas !alace Museum, situated in the heart of the city, is one of the most opulent buildingsblending Tuscan, talian and 2orinthian styles of architecture.

    lot of tourists, students and history buffs. There are chartered private buses taking the visitors tothe 7ai 8ilas !alace Museum from the city.

    The museum remains open from Thursday to Tuesday from /1.11 am to 0.51 pm. The entrancefee for ndians is & 51 and that for foreigners is & /11.

    7ai 8ilas Mahal is a huge and beautiful palace constructed in the )uropean style. The :0 roomsof the palace have been converted into the museum. This standing talianate structure is a

    combination of Tuscan and 2orinthian architectural styles.

    3esigned by 4t. 2ol. "ir Michael Filose, the palace was constructed by Maharaja 7ivaji ao"cindia in /#1;. The beautiful palace houses furniture from 8ersailles, taly and France. Two*elgian chandeliers weighing several tonnes are the prominent attraction of the palace.

    The palace also has historic swords, which were once worn by urang=eb and "hah 7ahanduring their ruling period. t present, some parts of the palace are occupied by the "cindiafamily.

    The temple was constructed by G.3. *irla, the famous industrialist of ndia in /;##. "urya Mandir is constructed using red sand stone and white marble.

    The "amadhi of ani 4akshmi *ai is located in the comple6 of !hool *agh. 8irangana 4akshmi

    *ai is a well known freedom fighter, who fought against the *ritish for the freedom of the princelystate, 7hansi.

    For paying tribute and respect to the ani, an eight metalled tall statue of ani 4akshmi *ai hasbeen installed within the garden. n her honour and memory, every year a fair is organised inGwalior on /#th 7une.

    "uraj $und is a tank located in the Gwalior Fort. The kund was constructed in the /0th centurythough its history dates back to as early as ?:0 3. 4egend states that during this period a kingnamed "uraj "en went into the forest for hunting and was missing.

    The king asked for water from the sage Gwalipa, who lived in the forest. The sage asked him toclimb a hill for water. The water of the tank cured his leprosy and as a token of gratitude to thesage, he constructed the "uraj tank and a temple.

    The local people still believe that the water in the tank has medicinal power. *eautifulsurroundings and historical significance of the tank attract many devotees as well tourists everyyear.
