WHY?: THE SPACE RACE October 4th, 1957. The Soviet Union launches the first artificiall

satellite (Sputnik 1). November 3rd, 1957. Laika was a Soviet space dog who became

the first animal to orbit the Earth. April 12th, 1961. The Soviet Union launch the first human to space

(Yuri Gagarin, Vostok 1). May 25th, 1961. J.F.K. Announced that the U.S.A. was going to

launch the first human to the Moon.

WHO AND

WHEN Apollo 11 was the first manned mission U.S.A. sent into space to

reach the surface of the Moon.

Apollo 11 was released from Cape Kennedy complex, Florida (USA), on July 16th, 1969 (10:32 local time).

The crew consisted of: the mission commander; Neil A. Armstrong (aged 38), LEM pilot; Edwin E. Aldrin Jr (aged 39) nicknamed Buzz, and the Command Module Pilot Michael Collins (aged 38).

Neil Armstrong was the first human to set foot on the lunar surface on July 21st, 1969 at 2:56 (World Time UTC), south of the Sea of Tranquility, six and a half hours after having landed.

HOW LONG WAS THE TRIP

It took 12 minutes to leave the Earth´s atmosfere.

Lunar Missions rules say Apollo ships have to stay 3 hours in a parking orbit.

They spended 3 days to go to the Moon.

The trip lasted a total of 8 days, 3 hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds.

TRUE OR FALSE? You can see in the sky there aren´t any stars, but they have to be

there because in the moon there is no pollution. Other people think that was a camera mistake.

In the photo you can see that the flag fluttered, but it couldn´t because in the moon there is no wind. Other people think that is because the astronauts touched the flag.

In the next picture you can see that one shadow is larger than the other, but it´s impossible because it´s only one light productor:THE SUN.
