HYMN #238 Thine is the Glory JUDAS MACCABEUS ST. DENI (See music in bulletin)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Most gracious God, the earth is Yours with all of its fullness. Your creation is beautiful and complex in ways beyond our imagination. If we follow its magnificent design, it leads us to You. Yet we have been so distracted following wrong directions of the contaminated hands of the world —

hands that have cut off, torn down, burned up, dug under, held back, built around, and moved out

the gifts of the earth, created for blessing. We have lost our way and Your creation groans for us to turn back to You. We have been too complacent as we have witnessed the covetous few control too much at the expense of the desperate hungry multitudes. Forgive us for not exercising the strength of our hands for the good of Your creation. Give pardon for allowing our hands -- gifted by You -- to rest idly by our sides. We seek the guidance of Your hands to point us to Your brightest light, salvation, and new life for your suffering earth. Through Your Son, Jesus Christ, the Way.

(the prayer may continue in silence)

Amen.

Your glory. Your touch has endowed within us fullness of grace. We lift our hands in thanksgiving, strong as the upraised branches of your majestic trees.

Praise You for the power of Your mighty hands upon us, for they reach into the depths of our hearts. You are marvelous!

P: Let us believe the Good News and live as redeemed people. L: Let us stand and give glory to God!

PRESENTATION OF OUR TITHES, GIFTS, AND COMMITMENTS

OFFERTORY My Lord, What a Morning! arr. Robert W. Thygerson

DOXOLOGY Hymn #592 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

SCRIPTURE READING: John 20:19-31 (NRSV, Pew Bible p. 883)

19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.” 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

This Easter text, first in French and later in English, was written to fit the music, a chorus created for Handel’soratorio Joshua and moved to Judas Maccabeus in 1751. It grew widely popular following its use at the FirstAssembly of the World Council of Churches in 1948.

JESUS CHRIST: RESURRECTION

239Good Christians All, Rejoice and Sing!

This 20th-century Easter text is both a song of encouragement (stanzas 1–3 directed to the congregation) anda song of praise (stanza 4 addressed to the risen Christ), all ending with joyous alleluias. It was writtenspecifically for the dancelike 17th-century tune found here.

Originally cast as two eight-line stanzas, this 19th-century paraphrase of Psalm 150 was slightly shortenedwhen it was set to the present tune with recurring Alleluias. The Welsh tune is actually older than the textand bears a name meaning “the church of St. Mary.”

BIBLE STUDIES & FELLOWSHIP “Open my eyes, so that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”~Psalm 119:18 (NRSV)

IGNITE YOUTH -- God does not call us to be “lukewarm” believers. He wants all of our hearts, all of the time. Let’s grow together and learn how to ignite our faith so that we can do our best to always be believers on fire for Christ. Open to all youth ages 6th grade through 18 years old. Sundays year-round at 10:15 AM, and Tuesdays during the school year from 3:30-5:30 PM in the Youth Room. For more information, contact Kelsey Claire at 928-445-4536 x110 or [email protected].

INTERSECTIONS CLASS is currently studying and discussing the book The Divine Dance: The Trinity and Your Transformation by Richard Rohr and Michael Morrell. This book delves into the central doctrine of the Trinity using one of the metaphors of the early church leaders who described the one God who is three persons as a divine dance. The book discusses how a deeper conception of Father, Son and Holy Spirit can transform our relationship with God and renew our lives. All are welcome. Sundays at 9:00 AM in the Sicatuva Room.

TRINITY 4KIDS is our program for children up to 5th grade. We meet year-round on Sundays at 8:30 AM and 10:15 AM in the Children's Center (through Grace Mitchell and downstairs). Come join us for fun lessons and activities! For more information contact Jennifer Garber at [email protected] or 928-445-4536 x114.

FRIDAY WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY FELLOWSHIP meets Fridays at 9:30 AM in Sicatuva. Please join us for our new winter/spring study, Beautiful Outlaw: Experiencing the Playful, Disruptive, Extravagant Personality of Jesus by John Eldredge. "We need Jesus like we need oxygen," says Eldredge. We welcome all women and look forward to having you join us. For questions, contact Kate Ingalls at 267.981.3923.

If you do not have a Trinity name tag contact the church office via Email ([email protected]), or call 928-445-4536 (ext. 113), or you can leave a note in the “In” box on the counter in the reception area of the church office. Just tell us how you want your name to appear on the tag and we will order you one.
