Trinity Times From Peggys Pen Dont let any foul words come out of your mouth. Only say what is helpful when it is needed for building up the community so that it benefits those who hear what you say. Dont make the Holy Spirit of God unhappy – you were sealed by him for the day of redemption. Put aside all bitterness, losing your temper, anger, shouting, and slander, along with every other evil. Be kind, compassionate, and forgiving to each other, in the same way God forgave you in Christ. Therefore, imitate God like dearly loved children. Live your life with love, following the example of Christ, who loved us and gave himself for us. (Ephesians 4:29-5:2a – Common English Bible) This scripture has been on my heart lately. Too often I ve been hearing comments, statements, and conversations that have revolved around tearing someone or some group of people down, and not building up the community. And true confession, I know that I have been guilty of it at times as well. Friends, I write this article for you and for me. If I turn on the news, social media, or even in discussions with friends and family, the conversations have become much more negative. If there is a difference in beliefs or understandings, people tear each other down, instead of hearing and listening to the other point of view. When there is a difference of opinions, beliefs, or understandings – the otheris torn down with words actions. What would it look like to put an end to all of that? And start living fully into the words that Paul gave to the people of Ephesus? To build up the community around you? To not let any foul words come from your mouth? To not hold onto bitterness, temper and anger, shouting and slander? Remember when Jesus said, its not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, rather it s what comes out of the persons mouth that reflects the heart? (Matthew 15) This goes for our words, our actions, our social media posts, vents, and so on. Friends, let us work on this together. Let us hold one another accountable. Let s continue to build one another up, to see the image of God and the light of Christ within each person. And be open to how the Holy Spirit will guide your mind, your mouth, your attitude, and your perspective. Let s do this together, living into and building up the kingdom of God. The Finance/ Administrative Council of the Trinity United Methodist Church Meeting Minutes The Finance/ Administrative Council of the Trinity United Methodist Church met on Thursday, July 23, 2020, 6:30 p.m. via ZOOM teleconference. Members who connected to the teleconference meeting: Pastor Peggy Hanson, Correen Dammen, Terri Keene, Sue Holloway, Cynthia McNeill, Bob McNeil, Syd DeVries, Jacque Fuller, Jane LaFollette and Lynn Larsen. Pastor Peggy Hanson called the meeting to order and opened with a devotion and prayer. There were no changes or additions to the agenda. Terri Keene moved/Sue Holloway seconded to approve the June 25, 2020 minutes as printed. Motion carried. Correen Dammen, Finance Chair, gave the Financial Report. Correen reported we are currently up-to-date on our church apportionments. Since giving to the church is down she is recommending we pay 8% of the apportionments due to the Conference for the next three months. Syd DeVries moved/Sue Holloway seconded to pay the apportionments to the Conference at 8% for the months of July, August and September. Motion carried. At the end of the three months, the Finance Committee will review the apportionment payments to the Conference. Sue Holloway moved/Jacque Fuller seconded to approve the Financial Reports. Motion carried. Bob McNeill, Trustees Chair, reported the Trustees are moving forward with the projects. They have received an estimate on the asphalt repair in the amount of $1,000.00. This work will be done in September or October. New tires will be purchased later this year for the snow truck. He noted that a date needs to be made for a Work Day. Bob reminded the council we need to keep in mind that if we go back to having services beginning on September 13 the sanctuary needs to be cleaned prior to going back into the sanctuary. September 12 might be a date to have the Work Day and also clean the sanctuary. Pastor Peggy reported she and the Leadership Committee have met with Dr. John Andrews on how we create a plan to get church members back into the sanctuary that complies with regulations once it opens. The committee’s findings show we can get 48 members into the sanctuary. They will be meeting again with Dr. Andrews to have a walkthrough in the sanctuary and present their plans to him. Do we have one service, do members RSVP they are coming to the worship service, do we sing softly, and do need to offer an additional service are some of the questions we need to address. Bishop Ough is retiring from the Conference at the end of 2020 and Bishop Laurie Haller from Iowa will serve as the Conference interim bishop. Annual Conference will be held online this year and will be held for only one day. Pastor Peggy will be offering a leadership program to church members this fall. She has officially completed her leadership class and was congratulated by the Admin Council. Lynn Larsen, Member Care Chair, reported the committee is doing another round of sending cards to our shut-ins and those who are in nursing/assisted living homes. Pastor Peggy reported on the Memorial Committee. A memorial in Vonita Doering’s name has been given by her family for camp scholarships. Sue Holloway, Missions, noted 120 cards are being sent to Adopt-A-Platoon to those who are serving our country. She has been in touch with the school district and when school starts they will need 2000 masks for students and staff. She has material and will need volunteers to help cut, iron and sew. Change for Change will be taken when we resume going back to church. She and Pastor Peggy are collecting shoe boxes that will be filled with items to send to kids for Christmas. Cynthia McNeill, Staff Pastor/Parish Chair reported all is going well. Sue Holloway stated Trinity United Methodist Women may not be having their summer picnic and is not sure when they will resume. There was no further business to come before the meeting. . Syd DeVries moved/Correen Dammen seconded to hold the next Finance/Administrative Council meeting on Thursday, August 27, 2020, 6:30 p.m. via ZOOM. Pastor Peggy closed the meeting with the Church Breakthrough Prayer. Lynn Larsen, Recording Secretary

Covid – 19 Updates On Thursday, June 25, 2020 the Administrative Council decided that we would forego regathering until Sunday, September 13 at the earliest. The hope is to be able to implement the best possible safe practices for gathering. This will also have allowed the big tourist events (Rally, Kool Deadwood Nights, etc.) to have taken place and to see how exposure goes following those events. We will be continuing offering worship from the sanctuary, with music, which will be shared via Facebook, www.leadtumc.com, and KDSJ 980 AM radio. Some have asked why we have stopped going “Live” on Sunday mornings and pre-recording worship. The reasons are as follows: 1) With our use of the video camcorder, we cannot go live - it does not have the capability to do that 2) We need a few additional people to help us run everything, and so we wanted to do it when we had people here at the church 3) If we were to switch to the iPad to go live, we wouldn't be able to interact with people like pastor Peggy was from her kitchen table 4) Our hope is to eventually move to going live, but we're still working out the sound, and logistics of it all with the technology. We are striving to provide authentic, Spirit-filled, God centered worship. If you have any ideas or suggestions of how we can improve worship – please let us know. Thank you for your continued prayers and connections.

August Mission Report:

Meals on Wheels was difficult to arrange this month. Many thanks to Syd & Shelli for taking

2 days. Thanks also to Bob & Cindi and Tia & Ron for helping out. I had to recruit a

Lutheran for the day that I couldn't cover. We lost two of our driving units so I am in need of more volunteers. Our next week is September 6-12th. It is only for 1 day and requires 1 1/2

hours or so and you are usually done by 12:30. Find a partner to make it more fun.

Adopt-A-Platoon: the cards are even more important than ever since deployments have been extended. These cards are greatly appreciated by our service people and offer comfort and

encouragement. They know that they are not forgotten and that we are praying for

them. Please call Sue 920-7788 to volunteer to write small notes and share your favorite Scripture verse. Financial assistance is appreciated since it costs around $75 to purchase the

cards and mail them.

Health Kits: We have been requested to send money for health kits rather than put them

together. UMCOR will purchase the needed supplies and send them off to where they are

needed.

Christmas Shoe Box Project: We would like to continue this tradition. The shoeboxes stay

in our district and go to approximately 6000 children on the reservations in SD, ND and Min-

nesota. They must be taken to our local collecting church in Rapid City by Nov. 22nd. Our boxes are destined for 'Tree of Life' in Mission, SD. You may assemble the boxes or bring items

to the CMC and we will assemble them. The requirements are very simple: cover the box and

lid separately and close with a rubber band. Items to include are winter hat and gloves or mittens (required but no other clothing please), small amounts of candy, new toys, card

games, art supplies, craft kits or stuffed animals. Do not include items that require batteries

or previously used items. If they are in packaging, please leave them in it. Label age groups which can be infants, toddlers, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13 and above. If you have questions or need

suggestions, please contact Sue.

Masks: The school has requested assistance in providing masks for their teachers and

students. You can imagine the quantity that will be required. Even if you can't sew, there is

cutting and ironing that needs to be done. Many hands make for light work. I have access to material and patterns. Please help keep our students and their teachers healthy. Again,

contact Sue 920-7788.

Dear Church Friends, The Member Care committee is asking you to send a card or note to those who are shut-in or are in nursing homes/assisted living. These friends of ours have been unable to get out and about and are limited to having any visits except through a window with their family and friends. A few minutes of sending a card or writing a note to them will brighten their day knowing they are loved and thought about often. Thank you! Trinity United Methodist Women

Trinity United Methodist Women has decided to postpone our usual August picnic this year. We have enjoyed it through both rain and shine in previous years, and in various beautiful places, but this year we think it best to postpone. Perhaps we will call one of our regular meetings, when we start up again, our summer picnic. We have good imaginations and besides that, we will be overjoyed to be able to meet again in the future! All women will be welcome when that time comes, the first Thursday of the month, 12:30 pm.

YouTube is a go-to source for many things.....but did you know there is a YouTube United Methodist Women channel? Just go to YouTube and search umwomen, or United Methodist Women and you will find several videos from our international president Harriet Jane Olson, videos of our mission projects among others, and an excellent overview of what United Methodist Women is when you click "Watch Trailer". Happy searching and learning.

You still have the opportunity to participate in the Reading Program for United Methodist Women. Go to www.unitedmethodistwomen.org/readingprogram for details. If you feel it is too late to read five books before the end of August, you can get started anyway and get a head start on next year!
