TRINITY TIDINGS Shout for joy, joy, joy! Shout for joy, joy, joy! God is love, God is light, God is everlasting! --David Mowbray, WOV 793 refrain It is love who makes the mortar And it’s love who stacked these stones And it’s love who made the stage here Although it looks like we’re alone In this scene set in shadows Like the night is here to stay There is evil cast around us But it’s love that wrote the play . . . For in this darkness love can show the way. --David Wilcox, Show the Way As we journey in this way of life and in faith, we shall run on the path . . . our hearts overflowing with the inexpressible delight of love. --Rule of Saint Benedict The drama of Holy Week and Easter reminds us that our God is a God of re-creation and resurrection. In springtime we celebrate the wonders of creation. Easter reminds us of the transforming power of God. Easter, like spring, is the time
for those who are asleep to wake up, for that which has lain dormant within us to break loose and rise up, for everything we have hidden in darkness to be brought into the light, and for new birth.
The joyful season of Easter is here! If we believe that love “stacked these stones,” wouldn’t there be less fear and more joy? There’s no denying that there is a lot to fear, and it’s hard to be joyful when you’re choking on fear. But, there are a lot of other things that can choke joy. Here are some that are quite common: cynicism, boredom, low self-esteem, taking life (oneself) too seriously (no sense of humor), loss of wonder, greed, guilt, bitterness and busyness. The things we do that choke joy are often about self-defense. The universe doesn’t seem safe. We aren’t sure it’s friendly out there. If love is the ultimate reality, if love “wrote the play” and “set the stage,” maybe we can give ourselves to love rather than to fear. Jesus told us that love casts out fear. When we take to the highways of life with the gift of divine love, joy will find us because the antidote to fear is love. Dear friends in Christ, the season of bondage and death is over. We are called to life! The way to resurrection is
to stand in gratitude and awe at the Mystery, to seek right relationships and pursue justice, to sing “Alleluia!” and hold them forever in our hearts, and take up our tambourines and dance!
The joyful Eastertide is here! The season of bondage and death is over. We are called to new life! For the one who was buried on Good Friday has risen! He has broken the chains of sin, fear and death that bind us. He calls us to live, live, live! May the resurrection of Christ relieve your fears and make space for joy in your hearts! The joy of the Lord is our strength!

THE TIDINGS
The Sundays of Easter 2016
The risen Christ, who walks on wounded feet from garden tomb through darkened city street, unlocks the door of grief, despair and fear, and speaks a word of peace to all who hear. --Nigel Weaver, ELW Hymn 390 vs. 1
SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER, April 3 Alleluia. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe. Thomas and his doubts speak to all humanity and their doubts. Jesus is the one who comes to all humanity, even in the midst of our questions and doubts, bringing his grace and peace. THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER, April 10—9:15 AM 2nd Sunday Family Service; 10:30 AM Traditional Holy Communion Alleluia. Our hearts burn within us while you open to us the scriptures. The disciples make a big splash and breakfast with the risen Jesus in the gospel. Wading in the water (remembering our baptism) and eating with Jesus (celebrating the holy communion) is our weekly encounter with the risen Christ. Jesus asks us, with Peter, again and again: “Do you love me?” And Jesus invites us, again and again, to follow him bringing the Easter life to others. FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER, April 17 Alleluia. Jesus says, I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. The gift of new life, of eternal life, is the gift of the risen Christ. It is the promise of Jesus. It was true for Dorcas in Joppa. It was true for those “who have come out of the great ordeal” in the Revelation vision. It is true for us and for all the baptized: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER, April 24 Alleluia. Everyone will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. Easter initiates a new day. It anticipates a new heaven and a new earth. The risen Lord is making all things new. In the mystery of holy baptism God has made new people of us. Today the Lord Jesus invites us to see everyone in a new light—through the lens of love. SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER, May 1 Alleluia. Those who love me will keep my word, and My Father will love them, and will come to them and make our home with them. Visions abound in the readings for the sixth Sunday of Easter. Paul has a vision about what to do. John of Patmos has a vision of what will be. Jesus performs a healing miracle on the Sabbath, restoring a man’s sight. In so doing, he both reveals divine creative power and teaches a richer, deeper meaning for the Sabbath as a healing and creative time. *ASCENSION OF OUR LORD SUNDAY, May 8—9:15 AM 2nd Sunday Family Service; 10:30 AM Traditional Holy Communion Alleluia. Go and make disciples of all nations, says the Lord; I am with you always to the end of the age. In today’s gospel the risen Christ ascends into heaven and his followers are assured that the Spirit will empower them to be witnesses throughout the earth. The disciples were told to not gaze up into heaven to look for Jesus; we find his presence among us as we proclaim the word and share the Easter feast. We too long for the Spirit to enliven our faith and invigorate our mission. *The feast of the Ascension of Our Lord commuted to the Seventh Sunday of Easter. DAY OF PENTECOST, May 15 Alleluia. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful people and kindle in us the fire of your love. Pentecost is a day of promises fulfilled. The promised Spirit of God is poured out. The baptized have become “children of God” and “joint heirs with Christ.” By the power of the Spirit we have seen the face of the Father in his only begotten Son and been saved by him. Bless the Lord, O my soul.

THE TIDINGS
Holy Communion and Rite of Confirmation for: Emily Cupo, Katie Jones, Bradley Mika, and Christina Vazquez I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity by invocation of the same, the Three in One and One in Three. I bond this day to me forever by power of faith, Christ’s incarnation, his baptism in the Jordan River, his cross of death for my salvation, his bursting from the spiced tomb, his riding up the heavenly way, his coming at the day of doom, I bind unto myself today. Saint Patrick’s Baptismal Canticle, c. 5th century Today we celebrate the name of God: holy blessed Trinity. There is no other day quite like this in the Church’s year. There is no other god like ours. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Spirit! Today we celebrate that in baptism we are bound into the strong name of the Trinity through the gift of the Holy Spirit.

A me of healing and renewal
From the end of May through June, we encounter Jesus bringing healing for those who suffer in mind, body or spirit. We will light candles during the Eucharist as we pray together for the coming of Christ’s reign of healing and renewal in our lives and in our world.
PENTECOST II, May 29 Revive our faith, we pray; heal our bodies and mend our communities . . . God hears every prayer—the prayer of the outsider as well as the prayer of the insider. The attentive nature of our God is evident as God comes to us again and again in the word and in the supper.
God be near us as we travel and help us when we fall; in the chaos that surrounds us send your hope through it all. Be mercy for our madness at the world and ones we love,
a gentle rain of healing from above. --Dakota Road

Knit and Crochet-In Our Community Knit-In has become quite a success! Our most recent Knit-In brought 19 adults and 3 children to this Sunday afternoon event! Due to overwhelming demand, we will now be holding our Knit and Crochet-Ins more often. The next Knit-In will be on
Sunday, April 17 2-5 PM
Multipurpose Room Beginners are always welcome. Bring a project you are working on or select one of our many charitable projects to work on. Please contact Dianna Mammone for more information.
R Our next selection is Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modern Bestiary by David Sedaris. Amazon Books describes it as “a unique blend of hilarity and heart. This new illustrated collection of animal-themed tales is an utter delight. Though the characters may not be human, the situations in these stories bear an uncanny resemblance to the insanity of everyday life. In The Toad, the Turtle, and the Duck, three strangers commiserate about animal bureaucracy while waiting in a complaint line. In Hello Kitty, a cynical feline struggles to sit through his prison-mandated AA meetings. In The Squirrel and the Chipmunk, a pair of star-crossed lovers is separated by prejudiced family members. With original illustrations by Ian Falconer, author of the bestselling Olivia series of children's books, these stories are David Sedaris at his most observant, poignant, and surprising." We are also asking readers to bring in a short story to share. We can make copies of them at the church if needed. Short stories are easy to find. Simply ask at the library for them or insert the topic into your search browser on the computer.
Our next meeting will be on Friday, April 15, at 6:30 PM in the multipurpose room. More details will follow in the weekly Tidings. If you have questions, contact Dianna Mammone or Judy Danilchick.

BIBLE STUDY RETURNS on Thursday evenings at 7 PM, April 14
The Gospel of John:
Six Weeks with “The Beloved Disciple” It’s clear from the first few paragraphs that the gospel of John broke sharply from the style of the gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. The other gospel writers focused on events, following Jesus through the bustling marketplaces and villages. Unlike them, John assumes readers know the basic facts about Jesus. Instead of focusing on facts, John mulls over the profound meaning of what Jesus had said and done. The book reads as if it were written under a great shady tree by an author who had lots of time for reflection. There are no Christmas scenes here: no stables, shepherds or wise men. John tells nothing of Jesus’ birth and youth. Instead, he introduces Jesus as the adult Son of God. And in the gospel of John, Jesus speaks and preaches more than in any of the other gospels. And you will likely recognize more familiar verses and phrases found in this remarkable book such as Jesus’ “I am” sayings. For more information, contact Pastor Susan at (201) 288-6889 or email her at [email protected].

Women, (Wine) and the Word Friday, May 13, at 7 PM Homemade Pizza Night! prepared by Pastor Susan & Rebecca Wright Multipurpose Room, Holy Trinity This is an opportunity for women to come together to build relationships, share in fellowship and explore God’s word. Pastor Susan will provide the wine! RSVP by Friday AM, May 13, to Pastor Susan at (201) 288-6889 or email her at [email protected]. In May we will discuss Eve, “the mother of all who have life.” You could describe Eve’s life as a series of “firsts”—she was the first woman, the first wife, the first mother, the first to be tempted by Satan. Her story is a tapestry woven with joy and pain, celebration and sorrow, life and death. She lived with great highs as well as great lows. She was swept up in the spiritual drama that would unfold through the whole story of the human family and the Word of God. She knew the cost of sin but also heard the message of hope in a coming Savior who would be her descendant. Go to the website to download the readings and questions for reflection and discussion at:

First Tuesday Evening Prayer 7:30 PM April 5 All Things New May 3 Come Holy Spirit
Taizé services are meaningful and moving, and are based upon silent and spoken prayer, special music and moments of contemplation. This service is for anyone who finds that the hectic pace of life is drowning out God’s voice in their life. Started in France after WWII, Taizé prayer is a beautiful practice that can open hearts and minds toward God through singing simple chants, Scripture readings, times of quiet contemplation, and intercessory prayer.
Join us for 30 peaceful minutes of simple chant, prayer, and silence on the first Tuesday of every month
from October to June.

TO THOSE IN NEED
Thanks to everyone who contributed items for our Easter baskets that were distributed by Lutheran Social Ministries in New Jersey. More than 60 children had a happier Easter thanks to your generosity. For our next project, we will be participating in the Hope Chest Program, coordinated by Community Access Unlimited in Elizabeth, NJ. They provide supportive services to youth who are transitioning from supervised to more independent living. This includes those who are developmentally disabled or those who are aging out of foster care. Each person in the program is given a basket with essentials to help set up their new home. Items needed are those for kitchen, bath or bedroom and must be new or in “like new” condition. During the months of April, May and June, we are requesting donations such as dinnerware, silverware, glasses, pots and pans, simple cooking utensils/gadgets, bath or kitchen towels, shower curtains, bath mats, or twin size bedding. Please help us to provide these at-risk youth with items that will help them on their road to independence and let them know there are many who care. Your donated items may be left on the porch or in the box provided in the lobby. SWIM thanks you, as always, for your continuing help with their projects. In so many small ways, we can each make a difference as we reach out together “From the Porch to Those in Need.”

T . . .
There aren’t enough words to adequately express our gratitude for all the acts of love and kindness that the congregation has shown us during our family’s recent ordeal. Your prayers, especially, made us feel as if we were wrapped in a warm blanket of Christ’s love. Being part of the Holy Trinity family is truly awe-inspiring.
God’s peace to you all, Rita, Vinny, Stephanie & Kristen Krieger
V A R After nearly two decades of service, Vinny Krieger has decided to retire as our Church Sexton. It takes many hands to keep an active Church like ours humming along and Vinny has long been an important contributor to that task. Please join those of us on Church Council in thanking Vinny for everything he has done for us over the years, and in wishing him well for his retirement! Michele Hickey Church Council President
THE TIDINGS
Scripture: This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.
— 1 John 4:9-11, 21 There are many ways to celebrate Mother's Day. Some children give their mother a card or a present for Mother's Day. Do you think your mother likes to hear you tell her that you love her? Of course she does! But do you know what your mother would like even more? She would like for you to show her that you love her.
There are many ways you can show your mother that you love her. You might help out around the house. You could clean your room or empty the trash. You could show her that you love her by obeying her when she tells you to do something. You can show her you love her by getting along with your brothers and sisters. It is easy to tell your mom that you love her, but what you do and how you act will really show her you love her!
God likes to hear us tell him that we love him, too. He does. But he likes it even better when our actions show him that we love him. You might be asking, “How do we do that?” The Bible tells us that, "God showed his love for us by sending his one and only Son so that we might live through him." It goes on to say that, "since God loved us so much, we ought to love one another." One of the best ways to show our love for God is to love one another. Yes, God likes to hear us say, "I love you, God," but he would rather see us say, "I love you" in how we act toward others.
As we think about and remember Mom on Mother's Day, let's tell Mom that we love her, but more important, let's remember to show her that we love her. And when we go to church, let's tell God we love him, but more important, let's remember to show him we love him by loving one another.
You can ask God to help you show you love him when you’‛re in church or at any other time throughout the week with this prayer. . .
Dear Lord,
I love you. Help me to show you I love you today in how I act and in how I show love toward others.
Amen.
