Music Notes Special music is not just for Christmas; it can happen even in November! Our choir is looking forward to some interesting and exciting collaborations in the coming weeks. On November 15, Laity Sunday, we will be joined by Mike Patrick of the Vocal Arts Ensemble, in the beautiful "All Good Gifts," from the musical Godspell, with additional instrumentalists. Christ the King Sunday, November 22, will be celebrated musically with a powerful anthem, "Rejoice, the Lord Is King," accompanied by our Trinity Ringers, with Jim Wagner on organ, as well as Barbara on piano. Then it's on to Advent and Christmas, seasons of inspired, beautiful music. We love sharing it with you. United Methodist Women Newcomers are always welcome! The Global Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church suggested that local churches celebrate a Season of Saints beginning in 2012, and I have followed that suggestion for the past four years. The GBOD has weekly suggestions for which saints we might wish to highlight. There is always one “global saint,” and one “Methodist saint,” from which to choose. We do have a list, (or lists), but unlike the Catholic saints, our lists are all unofficial. Our list includes people from all Christian denominations, and for some, even people beyond the Christian Church. So how and why do we get Methodist saints? I will give one hint: Thankfulness is part of it... a rather forced transition to our new season, that of thanksgiving. November is also the month when we express our thanks to God by prayerfully considering our support for the church in the coming year. To the saints who are in Los Osos,

“Rejoice in God’s saints / today and all days / a world without saints / forgets how to praise.”

I have received a number of positive comments about the “Season of Saints” page in the Sunday bulletin this October. The Global Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church suggested that local churches celebrate a Season of Saints beginning in 2012, and I have followed that suggestion for the past four years.

  • The Trinity Library is Open!! Special thanks to Mike Eggleston, Dorothie Hogan, Carol Shupp and Alta Hall who met in May and began the process of editing the books on the shelves of the church library. There were many outdated books, duplicates, outdated student study books, and others deemed not appropriate or relevant for our library. Those books were donated to Annual Conference or given to the Los Osos Library for their book sales. Others were taken to Achievement House to be shredded. There is still more to be done, but the improvements are already visible with new labels on the shelves denoting categories of books and a check-out/return. A sign is posted on the bookcase explaining procedures for checking out and returning books. Plans for the future include purchasing new books and publicizing not only them but also our present books. Elizabeth Clover has agreed to be the Library Coordinator.

Check Our Procedure Choose a book and record it in the Library Checkout Binder. When returning books, place them in the Return Books container to be shelved.

Book Donations Please place your donations in the red box located near the book shelves. Much time and effort have been taken to organize the books to make it easier for readers to locate specific categories of books.

United Methodist Student Sunday Special Offering November 15th

United Methodist Student Day is one way the church encourages prospective college students to believe that anything is possible with God’s help. Because of their financial lot in life, young people often miss opportunities to grow beyond economic hardships. Sometimes, they inherit obstacles to improving the quality of life. What is the likelihood that a high school senior earning $8 an hour at a fast-food restaurant can afford tuition at college? How can a 17-year-old with two non-working, alcoholic parents afford nursing school? How can a young mother with two babies afford an education that will allow her a fresh start?

United Methodist Student Day turns lives around. Our gifts provide scholarship funds for United Methodist college, university and graduate students who show promise, eagerness to learn and leadership qualities that may change the world.

Church Library Book Review by Carol Shupp

‘We Go Forward’ Carolyn and Leonard Wolcott

Intended for children, this book contains 20 biographical sketches of people important in the history of the United Methodist Church. Some are quite obvious, others less so. The title comes from Francis Asbury who, with a companion, set out for the village of Crumps. They ran out of road, lane, paths. Nothing but forest. “Too bad,” said his friend. “We’ll have to go back.” “No,” said Asbury, pushing ahead. “We go forward.” And there was a meeting held in Crumps.

  • TUMC Thanksgiving Dinner Box’s

The church is collecting items to make sure everyone is able to have a complete Thanksgiving Dinner this year. In years past they have been able to provide over 50 Los Osos families with Thanksgiving Dinners and we want to help keep that tradition going. If you would like to donate an item there will be a box in my office. Items that are needed are: Stuffing Mix, Potatoes, Canned Veggies, Celery, Carrots, Rolls and Pie. If you have any questions or would like to donate your time please call or visit the TUMC office.

    November 2015

We had a great October and November is going to be full of fun also. This month we will be talking about healthy foods and healthy bodies. We will also be continuing our conversations about the fall season and holidays. If you know you will be gone Nov 11/23 or 11/24 please let the teachers know ASAP. I would like to take this time to officially announce that I am expecting my second little boy at the end of December. We are very excited about our new addition and the VCC kids have been helping me with name ideas and rubbing my belly to say hi to the baby. I will be taking some time off at the beginning of the year and will be back in March. I will be sending out more information soon on who to go to if you need help or have questions while I’m gone. But until then if you have any questions please let me know.

    Ms. Valerie

    School Improvements

We are excited to announce that we will be installing artificial

grass for the big and little yards in December while we are on

    Winter Break.

We will be using Parent’s Fundraising money to help pay for the

grass so a big thank you goes out to our parent’s. We also want

to thank TUMC who will be donating money to help.

We can’t wait to ring in the New Year with beautiful green

    playgrounds for the kids.

Important Reminders & Dates We will be closed Nov 11th for Veterans Day We will be closed Nov. 25-27 Holiday Store Gifts Due Dec 1 Don’t forget we will be closed Dec. 21-Jan.1 for Winter Break

Updated Child Immunization Requirements Effective January 2016

The new vaccination law will require most of California’s children to be fully vaccinated in order to attend any private or public elementary or

secondary school, child care center, day nursery, nursery school, family day care home, or development center, regardless of their parent’s

    personal or religious beliefs.

    VCC Holiday Store

The Holiday Store is a VCC tradition that allows the kids to go shopping and “buy” gifts for loved ones of their choice. This is a great lesson on giving and kindness and has been a great learning experience for the kids. To make this possible we need parents help, Please donate

4 toys, books, knick-knacks etc. by Dec 1 so all the children can participate in the store and enjoy the experience. The gifts do not need to be expensive and if you would rather donate money we can go buy

the gifts for you. If you have any questions let me know.
