Obviously, we must eat and drink to survive because we would not live very long without food and water. But eating and drinking also have social significance; whether it is a holiday meal or a persons birthday or graduation from high school or college that their family members and friends are celebrating with them. In the Old Testament Book of Exodus, chapter 12, God in- structs Moses and Aaron as to how the children of Israel were to celebrate the Passover Meal for the first time. This was to be done on the very eve of their liberation from Egypt, where they and their ancestors had been held captive as slaves for a very long time. The Passover was established so the Hebrew people would recall annually, how God had delivered them and their ancestors from slavery. While the Lords Supper is also an opportunity for us to re- member, we do not simply recall Jesussacrificial death on the cross as if we had been there. Rather, in this great gift that our Savior gives to his Church, our Crucified, Risen and Ascended Lord and Savior Jesus Christ becomes truly present with us, coming to us with his true Body and true Blood, broken into death and shed on the altar of the cross for us, to bring to each of us, in the most inti- mate and personal way possible, the forgiveness of all our sins and the sure hope of eternal life (Matthew 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-23; I Corinthians 11:23-29). Remembering and More Than Remembering

Eating and drinking are activities with double significance. Obviously, we must eat and drink to survive because we would not live very long without food and water. But eating and drinking also have social significance; whether it is a holiday meal or a person’s birthday or graduation from high school or college that their family members and friends are celebrating with them.

In the Old Testament Book of Exodus, chapter 12, God in-structs Moses and Aaron as to how the children of Israel were to celebrate the Passover Meal for the first time. This was to be done on the very eve of their liberation from Egypt, where they and their ancestors had been held captive as slaves for a very long time.

While Holy Communion has its deepest roots in the Old Tes-tament Passover; this “Blessed Sacrament of the Altar,” instituted by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on that first Maundy Thursday, greatly surpasses the Passover. The Passover was established so the Hebrew people would recall annually, how God had delivered them and their ancestors from slavery.

While the Lord’s Supper is also an opportunity for us to re-member, we do not simply recall Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross as if we had been there. Rather, in this great gift that our Savior gives to his Church, our Crucified, Risen and Ascended Lord and Savior Jesus Christ becomes truly present with us, coming to us with his true Body and true Blood, broken into death and shed on the altar of the cross for us, to bring to each of us, in the most inti-mate and personal way possible, the forgiveness of all our sins and the sure hope of eternal life (Matthew 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-23; I Corinthians 11:23-29).

Holy Communion is remembering but also much more than

remembering!

Holy Communion, like the entire Liturgy of the Church that

we celebrate together every Sunday, on “The Day of Resurrection,” is “The Feast of Victory for Our God! Alleluia! Allelu-ia!” (Revelation 7:9-12).

Connecting Names and Faces -

Home Visits and Evangelism Calls

One of the biggest challenges I have struggled with as the new pastor at Trini-ty Lutheran Church, is in my lack of ability to remember all the names and the faces of the people worshiping with us on Sunday mornings. Some are local-residents and members of Trinity. Others are here only temporarily, as visitors from the north, come here only a short time to escape the harsh winters back home. Others, I am happy to say, are people living in Volusia County, seeking out a new church home. If you are a member and I have not yet had an opportunity to visit with you in your home, please phone the church office, so we can arrange a time for me to visit you (386-255-7580). Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice and I know them, and they know me!” As much as I love conducting preaching sermons and conducting worship ser-vices on teaching Bible classes, I also want to know all the sheep better, whom our gracious Heavenly Father has entrusted to my pastoral care. If you come out of worship service on Sunday mornings, and I don’t call you by name, please do me the gigantic favor of telling me your name, once again! Thanks! Pastor Sizemore

February 3 "Slow Solution" Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler God's gift of eternal life through faith in Christ is not a quick fix. Dr. Michael Zeigler Hitting that snooze button may be doing more harm than good. It's time to stop spiritual snoozing and wake up. (John 3:1-21) February 17 "Enter His Labor" Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler What would you do if your Word was all-powerful? Jesus started a conversation with an outsider.

(John 4:1-42) February 24 "Not by Bread Alone" Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler There is a spiritual hunger beyond food that is expressed in food. Jesus provides for both. (John 6:1-29) To listen to the Lutheran Hour, tune to:
