GROW WITH GOD THIS LENT
“LISTEN WITH GOD ’S EARS:”
“But we are God’s people. We are people called to make use of the time we have to build up the kingdom of God. To offer a cup of cold water to those who are in need. To listen with ears attentive to the Holy Spirit and what God may be saying to us.”
A MESSAGE FOR ASH WEDNESDAY AND LENT
Transcript:
Ash Wednesday: here we are. We begin this Lenten season with a moment of repentance where we turn back to God and change our mind, recognizing our own need for a new beginning. This is our “great do-over!” A time when we remem-ber that we are humans. That we are dust and to dust we shall return.
For some of us this can be a wilder-ness time. And there’s great value in wilderness. We learn the most when we fail. We learn the most when we take a time away to con-sider who God is in our lives.
But in this time of recognizing our humanity it is also a time to recog-nize others’ humanity as well. I have been concerned in the last few months as this increasing trend of dehumanization of other people. “Those people” are looked at with denigration. People who have been wounded or hurt, their hurt is trivi-alized or looked at as somehow less than our own.
But we are God’s people. We are people called to make use of the time we have to build up the kingdom of God. To offer a cup of cold water to those who are in need. To listen with ears attentive to the Holy Spirit and what God may be saying to us.
When was the last time you were able to hear God? When was the last time you were able to speak about God’s love and transformation in your own life?
I pray in this Ash Wednesday and Lenten time we will consider again who we are as God’s people. And rather than listening ready to respond in a moment’s notice with our own erudite responses, that we will listen with mercy. That we will listen with God’s ears, hearing the brokenness and the need and the sorrow around us. And instead of offering rejection or dehumanization, we will offer love and redeeming and forgiveness.
This is our time to start over, to have the “great do-over.” So in this time of beginning again, I wish you mercy and peace. And most of all perhaps, hope and love.
Blessings be upon you in this holy season.
Rt. Rev. Dr. DeDe Duncan-Probe
11th Bishop of Central New York
(and a friend of Bishop Bill Franklin)
The Prelude
A few minutes before the 10:30 service Trinity’s organist plays the Prelude. This music is meant to help us center ourselves and prepare for the service. Usually the prelude is of a quiet, contemplative nature, helping us to shrug off the worries of daily living, to calm the endless chatter of our minds, and to focus on the goodness of God.

“PRESERVING THE PAST FOR OUR FUTURE”
Restoration of the Memorial Stained Glass Windows The campaign has finally begun and hopefully all of you have received the brochure in the mail with the detailed information. (let us know if you have not) We are hoping to raise $180,000 with your three-year pledge commitment. This is a “once a century” restoration! Be-cause we have chosen to completely re-lead the ten windows, we are guaranteeing their life for another ninety years! We are truly preserv-ing the past for our future parishioners and for our village of Fredonia.
The windows were dedicated 92 years ago to the memory of the Rectors and Communicants of Trinity Parish. The names Dr. and Mrs. M.M. Fenner, Mary McDaniels Putnam, Elizabeth M. Newton, George Barker, Arhseh E. Barker, John Henry Clark, Mary Morgan Clark can be seen on the sills of the nave windows.
Perhaps you too would like to honor a person with their own memorial window. As written on the pledge card, a gift of $12,000 over three years will pay for the restoration of one lancet of the window. A memorial plaque will be added to the window sill with a personal inscrip-tion to the person.
What we have learned about avoiding taxes!! Talk to your financial advisor. Several of us have discovered that funds can be directly trans-
ferred to the church or to the Merrill Lynch foundation account to avoid a capitol gains tax. It is worth a question.
God has blessed us abundantly!!!
We give in gratitude, and when we give generously,
the joy of giving will bless us!

IN MEMORIUM
Anne G. Cassidy of Fredonia, age 84, died Monday, February 19, 2018 at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice House in Warren, PA. Anne was a longtime active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served on various committees at the church. Anne will be tremendously missed by this congregation. We will remember her feisty spirit, her tireless energy, her wit, her artistry, her love of fun and laughter, and her commitment to Trinity.
Nothing could be more beautiful, than the memories we have of you, To us they're very precious, because they are of you. We love you, Anne.
Update from the Search Committee
In early October we received nine candidate names provided by Rev. Vicki Zust, the Bishop's Assistant for Ministry Development. We carefully reviewed all their resumes and profiles, narrowed our choices based upon the criteria estab-lish by the parish survey, had online interviews with four of the candidates, and brought two of those candidates to Fre-donia for more interviews and a visit. A call was issued to one of the candidates, but not accepted. We'd like to share more but due to confidentiality, we cannot give specific information. We are currently awaiting a new round of names, and we will proceed as before. Please keep in mind that the search for a new rector takes 1 ½ to 2 years at the very least. Since the active search started in October, we are well within that target. Also, know that your Search Committee does not take our mission lightly. Each member brings a different per-spective and skill set to the process. We complete each step thoroughly and thoughtfully so that when a call is made and accepted, we will bring the best choice for Trinity. Thank you for your continued patience, and especially your prayers, as we proceed. God is with us on this journey. Andrew Wheelock, Jack Torrance, Sue Torrance, Janiel Rey, Meredith Wheelock, Virginia Becker
Sunshine Committee Information
The TECW Sunshine Group would like to remind Trinity members of our mission. We would like to be able to send a card or note to our church family members who have an event occurring in their lives (such as illness, thinking of you, sympathy, etc.)
Should anyone know of a need, please contact either Cathy Berner or myself and let us know. Also, the teams which provide a meal or help with events from time to time would welcome additional members.
Questions or suggestions, please call - Maureen Blackburn (785-6286)
