Coast. Chartered in 1836, Trinity Episcopal Church is Apalachicola’s historic

―first church.‖ Services have been held here for more than 180 years. It is with

Trinity Outreach Ministry is sponsoring a BBQ after the 10:30 service on

Sunday,

April 8th, featuring Nancy's famous BBQ, baked beans, cole slaw, tea and

lemonade, and homemade desserts. We will be serving the meal in Benedict

Hall, and takeout is also available. Sign-up sheets are in Benedict Hall for

desserts and help with this event. The proceeds go to support summertime

activities for children: camp fees for Boy Scout Troop 347 as well as assistance

with Rotary Camp fees for a child with disabilities from Franklin County.

The Liturgy of the Palms

Celebrant: Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.

People: Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.

Celebrant: Let us pray.

Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our salvation, that we may

enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts, whereby you have

given us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Gospel Mark 11:1-11

Celebrant: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Collect

It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for he acts of love by which you have

redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered

the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his way. Let these

branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who bear them in his

name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to

eternal life, who lives and reigns in glory with you and the Holy Spirit, now

and for ever. Amen.

March 25, 2018 Mark 11:1-11, Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29 Isaiah 50:4-9a, Psalm 31:9-16,

TURNING FROM, TURNING TO What will it take to turn us around today, to turn us from our self-centered, self-serving concerns and interests to the way of self-giving love modeled by Christ Jesus? We know the biblical stories of those who

turned their lives around 180 degrees to serve the purpose of God: Moses hearing the voice of God coming from the burning bush (Ex.3:1-6), Jonah rescued from drowning after he tried to avoid his call to Nineveh (Jonah 1:3-6, 15—2:10), Paul struck blind on the way to Damascus (Acts 9:3-19), for example. Notice all

those experiences took place out of doors; they were subject to the vagaries of nature, vulnerable, without protection from the elements. Perhaps we today are too insulated from God‟s handiwork in creation to recognize the Divine at work in our lives, too set in our forward-looking ways even to consider turning around to allow God to change our focus, our direction. The concept of turning brings to mind the Shaker hymn “Simple Gifts:” „Tis a gift to be simple, „tis a gift to be free, „Tis a gift to come down where we ought to be, And when we find ourselves in the place just right, „Twill be in the valley of love and delight. When true simplicity is gained, To bow and to bend we shan‟t be ashamed, To turn, turn will be our delight, “Til by turning, turning, we come round right. “Right” on the path to Easter, leaving our palms behind, following Jesus through Gethsemane, Golgotha, and the empty tomb, we will come to the valley of love and delight of Christ‟s resurrected Presence.
