TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READINGSWisdom of Solomon 3:1-9

The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in the sight of others

they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them. In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and will run like sparks through the stubble. They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them forever. Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his elect.

Psalm 241 The earth is God’s and all that is in it, *the world and all who dwell therein.2 For it is God who founded it upon the seas *and made it firm upon the rivers of the deep.3 “Who can ascend the hill of the Most High? “ *and who can stand in God’s holy place?”4 “Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, *who have not pledged themselves to falsehood, nor sworn by what is a fraud.5 They shall receive a blessing from the Holy One *and a just reward from the God of their salvation.”6 Such is the generation of those who seek God, *of those who seek your face, O God of Jacob.7 Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them high, O everlasting doors; * and the one who reigns in glory shall come in.8 “Who is this who reigns in glory?” * “The Holy One, strong and mighty, the Holy One, mighty in battle.”9 Lift up your heads, O gates; lift them high, O everlasting doors; * and the one who reigns in glory shall come in.10 “Who is this who reigns in glory?” *“This is God, the God of hosts, who reigns in glory.”

Revelation 21:1-6a

I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See,

the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.” And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.”

John 11:32-44

When Mary came where Jesus was and saw him, she knelt at his feet and said to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, he was greatly disturbed in spirit and deeply moved. He said, “Where

have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” Jesus began to weep. So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?” Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying

against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, already there is a stench because he has been dead four days.” Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, “Father, I thank you for having heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

The Lord is My Shepherd; therefore can I lack nothing. He shall feed me in a green pasture, and lead me forth beside the waters of comfort.

He shall convert my soul, and bring me forth in the paths of righteousness, for his Name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me.

Thou shalt prepare a table before me against them that trouble me;thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full.

But thy loving-kindness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life;and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Presider Lift up your hearts.People We lift them to the Lord.

Presider Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.People It is right to give God thanks and praise.

Presider It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For you are the source of light and life, you made us in your image, and called us to new life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

John Rutter

Presider Holy and gracious God: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Creator of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread;

and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of our faith:

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O God, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him.

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt caeli gloria tua, hosanna in excelsis

Benedictus qui venit in nomine domini:Hosanna in excelsis.

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and majesty.Heaven and Earth are full of thy glory, Hosanna in the highest

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty God, now and for ever.

People: May you carry the prayers of all of us as you take this sacrament of Holy Communion from the altar of Trinity Cathedral. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most pre-cious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, O God, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

WELCOME TO TRINITY CATHEDRALTHE MISSION OF TRINITY CATHEDRAL IS TO PROCLAIM IN WORD AND ACTION GOD’S JUSTICE, LOVE AND MERCY FOR ALL CREATION.

Trinity Cathedral welcomes everyone: people of all faiths, races, nationalities and walks of life: urban and suburban, rich and poor, gay and straight, families and singles, young, old and in-between. Hospitality is an important part of our ministry, and we hope you will feel welcome here. Please complete a visitor card and give it to one of the greeters, an usher, the receptionist in the Piazza, or leave it in the offering plate. Don’t leave without a Welcome Packet, and check us out on social media. And don’t be surprised if a member of our congregation calls during the week to say hello!

Bread & Wine are offered at communion. If you do not wish to receive wine, please hold your hand over the cup.

Kneeling Cushions are on racks by the doors. Please return at the end of worship.

Soft Space in the West Transept of the Cathedral is available for parents, infants and young children on Sunday mornings. Soft Space has a large rug, toys and more for quiet play—allowing parents to remain in the worship service. If you would like to step out with your child, ask the Reception Desk for access to the Nursery.

If you are visiting Trinity today and would like to help support our mission and ministry, Friends of Trinity donation envelopes are available at the Welcome Table. You may also donate to Friends online at www.trinitycleveland.org.

FYI: We encourage and remind you to secure and protect your personal valuables when visiting Trinity Commons.

The Flowers on the Altar are offered to the glory of God in loving memory of Muriel Scribner, John A. Mitchelltree, Eleanor Painter Strong, and Mary E. Thomas.
