PASTOR’S GREETING, INTRODUCTIONS AND LIFE OF THE CHURCH

CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 77

L: I will call to mind the deeds of the Lord; I will remember Your wonders of old. P: I will meditate on all Your works, and muse on Your mighty deeds. L: Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God? P: You are the God who works wonders; You have displayed Your might among the peoples.

L: Let us worship God!

HYMN #837 What a Fellowship, What a Joy Divine SHOWALTER ST. DENI (See music in bulletin)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of freedom, set at liberty we who are captive, and grant us absolution as we confess our sin. Prisoners of self-interest, we disregard neighbors. We bolster our own egos at others’ expense. When slander is rampant, we seldom stop it. When rumors are rife, we seek not the source. Help us to check our destructive ways, lest we consume one another. Cause us to use our freedom in ways that show true devotion to The Way of Your Son, our Lord and our Savior.

(Silence for personal confession.)

Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON Gal 5:22-23

L: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.” We who “belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” Therefore, let us live in love and bear one another’s burdens. P: This is our assurance: we are forgiven in Jesus Christ and made alive in the Spirit. Thanks be to God. L: Let us stand and give glory to God!

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 9:51-62 (NRSV, Pew Bible p. 843)

51 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers ahead of him. On their way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him; 53 but they did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. 54 When his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven

Page 4: Trinity · 2019-06-27 · Trinity Sunday, June 30th, 2019 10:00 a.m. Trinity Presbyterian Church 630 Park Avenue Prescott, Arizona 86303 (928) 445-4536

and consume them?” 55 But he turned and rebuked them. 56 Then they went on to another village. 57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 60 But Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

SERMON "Follow Me" Rev. Dr. Sue Marie Baskette

HYMN #65 Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah CWM RHONDDA (See music in bulletin)

RITE OF PRAYER FOR HEALING AND WHOLENESS CONCLUDING WITH THE RECITATION OF THE LORD’S PRAYER

“Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up…” (James 5:13-15).

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power

And the glory, forever. Amen.

SHOWALTER10.9.10.9 with refrain

The composer of the tune (and creator of the refrain) asked the author of the stanzas to write a hymn basedon the latter part of Deuteronomy 33:27 (as worded in the King James Version): “Underneath are theeverlasting arms.” Their joint effort has proved very popular.

BIBLE STUDIES & FELLOWSHIP “Open my eyes, so that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”~Psalm 119:18 (NRSV)

TRINITY 4KIDS is our program for children up to 5th grade. We meet year-round on Sundays at 8:30 AM and 10:15 AM in the Children's Center (through Grace Mitchell and downstairs). Come join us for fun lessons and activities! For more information contact Jennifer Garber at [email protected] or 928-445-4536 x114.

IGNITE YOUTH -- God does not call us to be “lukewarm” believers. He wants all of our hearts, all of the time. Let’s grow together and learn how to ignite our faith so that we can do our best to always be believers on fire for Christ. Open to all youth ages 6th grade through 18 years old. Sundays year-round at 10:15 AM, and Tuesdays during the school year from 3:30-5:30 PM in the Youth Room. For more information, contact Kelsey Claire at 928-445-4536 x110 or [email protected].

INTERSECTIONS CLASS is currently studying and discussing the book The Divine Dance: The Trinity and Your Transformation by Richard Rohr and Michael Morrell. This book delves into the central doctrine of the Trinity using one of the metaphors of the early church leaders who described the one God who is three persons as a divine dance. The book discusses how a deeper conception of Father, Son and Holy Spirit can transform our relationship with God and renew our lives. All are welcome. Sundays at 9:00 AM in the Sicatuva Room.

FRIDAY WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY FELLOWSHIP meets Friday's at 9:30 AM in Sicatuva. We are on SUMMER BREAK. We will return Friday, September 6 for fellowship and begin a new fall study on Friday, September 13. Watch this space for details. We look forward to seeing you in September. For questions, contact Kate Ingalls at 267.981.3923.
