Tri News Jul - Sep 2011 An In- House Newsletter for Company Employees Volume 17 Half Yearly Sales Conference 2011 was held on July 25, 2011 at Pearl Continental Hotel Karachi. The conference started at 9:30 am with the recitation of Holy Quran. There were 30 participants in the meeting including the Departmental Heads, Marketing Team, Employees from Finance and Production department. Marketing Manager, Mr. Imran Quddus welcomed everyone and requested the honorable Managing Director to address the participants. Managing Director appreciated the whole team of Tri-Pack Films Limited, especially marketing department who did tremendous job by selling more than 15,000 tonnes of BOPP film in the 1st Half of 2011. He asked all the participants to keep in mind the main agenda of this conference i.e. to provide “Improved Services” to our valued customers. He further highlighted the ever best contribution achieved during the first half of year 2011 in both BOPP and CPP Films. Moreover, MD asked everyone to focus on their area of development and formulate strategies regarding the 40,000 tonnes expansion and value added CPP products. It gives me great pleasure to publish the newsletter Ô Tri-NewsÕ . No doubt it was a great challenge and responsibility of bringing this newsletter to your hands.

This was my first ever editorial effort and it gave me tremendous confidence in order to produce the best quality and a feeling of value addition for the Company.

From July 2011 onwards Tri-News will be published quarterly and I hope that in future I can add many new forums into it.I will eagerly wait for your feedback and hope to have a better and more informative issue next time. Happy Reading!

In addition to making CPP line more profitable throughmaximum sales of the value added films, keep focus on the competition and maintain similar contribution margins for the 2nd Half of 2011. Marketing Manager then asked the Regional Managers and the Sales Teams to present theprogress on sales for 1st Half 2011.

Regional Manager South Zone-A, presented the highlights of the first half including the contribution margins, BOPP tonnages sold. SWOT analysis along with explanation as to where they did well and where they need to improve. He also presented data about complaints and developments, along with strategies to achieve target for the second half of 2011.

Regional Manager South Zone-B, also gave presentation on similar lines and highlighted the performance of his region along with strategies for the second half.

Regional Manager Centre in his presentation highlighted the growth in metallized and pearlized films along with growth in CPP films as compared to first half of 2010. He also presented about remarkable improvement in contribution margins of BOPP and CPP films along with aging days in the first half of 2011.

Regional Manager North presented growth in sales volumes along with improvement in contribution margins and aging days as compared to first half of 2010. He also informed about the value addition in respect of packing cost for match grade film from pallets to boxes.

All Regional Managers also discussed the developments for the second half of 2011 along with strategies to achieve target with major focus on “Improved Customer Services”. The Export Manager presented the exports of half yearly operations. He explained the way to utilize CPP and BOPP films geographically and about export future product strategies.

After lunch, the conference began with the presentation of Business Development Manager who presented aboutongoing projects for new films like Normal Barrier Transparent Films, High Barrier Metallized Films and Twist Wrap Metallized Films along with status and results of trials, target customers and products. He also highlighted growth areas likedevelopment of Naked Wrap Film and usage of metallized films in Jumbolon Sector.

Finance Manager in his presentation provides details of the financial position of the Company in terms of the profit before tax and percentage of sales. Comptroller of Accounts in his presentation explained the contribution margin earned, aging days and their impact on profitability and line wise wastage. The Manager Internal Audit gave his presentation on the complaints launched and region wise receivables in 1st Half 2011 in comparison with 2nd Half 2010.

Manager Operations in his presentation highlighted the 1st Half 2011 achievements like capacity utilization, wastereduction and capability of the Cast Line in producingspecialized films. Plant Managers Hattar and Port Qasim in their presentations highlighted production against set targets followed by monthly waste analysis and man powerutilization.

The Commercial Manager presented the raw materialmovement and the increase in packing cost. The raw material trends were discussed in detail by comparing last year 2nd Half 2011 and current year 1st Half. He also shared his opinion on packing cost reduction by utilizing the usedpackaging material.

Latterly a brain storming session was conducted, in which all the participants were encouraged to share their opinions for further improvement.

In the end Managing Director and Marketing Manager thanked all the participants for their active presence and wish them good luck for the 2nd Half 2011.

To meet future requirements of electricity for the new BOPP line at Tri-Pack Films Limited, Port Qasim Plant Karachi, management decided to expand existing power generation capacity from 6 MW to 12 MW by installing three more gas engines of the capacity of 02 MW each. For this purpose a ground breaking ceremony was held on July 26, 2011 at power house site.Managing Director inaugurated the ground breaking ceremony of expansion of Power House.x

Tri-Pack Films Ltd. always tried to satisfy its customers by the supply of best quality products without any interruption therefore Tri-Pack always believed in its self power generation units and thisexpansion is one of the evidence. Presently, the Company has three gas engines having capacity of06 MW. In the mid of 2012, the Company will be capable to generate 06 MW additional power from newly installed gas engines.

Every year an Iftar cum dinner is hosted by Managing Director to the employees of the Company. This year was no exception. The Prime objective of the iftar dinner was to strengthen thebonding of love, brotherhood and bringing all employees and their families together under one roof in a very spiritual and friendly occasion. This was good opportunity to merge and associate with others especially in keeping the spirit of holy month of Ramazan. It was fabulous time spent by employees with their colleagues and breaking fast together.

Considering the pace at which life moves these days, one thing is assured:if you can’t manage your time effectively, you will have a hard time managing daily routine tasks. The success of an individual is greatly depending on their ability to effectively plan and manage their time. Managing this critical resource increases competitiveness.

In order to avoid late sittings, and polish time management skills of employees, HRD department of Tri-Pack arranged an in-house training on “Mastering Time Management” in collaboration with HRS Global (HRSG). This training was conducted by a renowned trainerMs. Madeeha Khan. Nineteen participants from different departments attended the training session.

The objective of this workshop was to understand the importance of time, aggressively managing it and to identify the main obstacles to effective time management. The contents of workshop were established upon the expectations of participants with methodology designed to be participatory with the contents of theme. Case studies, sharing of best practices, peer learning formed an integral part of the workshop. Participants enjoyed the whole interactive session and learned effective time management techniques.

Recognition programs are excellent motivators and critical to employee retention.   It is one of the shinning trait of TPF that it always gives recognition to their experienced employees. Service Awards are one of them. They act as a catalyst to uplift the morale and motivation level of employees towards their job performance. This year,  36 employees of Tri-Pack were recognized for their 10 & 15 years of service. Managing Director presented Service Awards to Port Qasim and Hattar employees. It was the day of hardworking & committed employees who devoted their skills, expertise and of course many years of hard work to keep the Company flourish at national and international business arena. Recognition programs, like Service Awards, acknowledge employees’ contributions to the overallobjectives and effective operation of the Company that ultimately lead to promote good employee relations, improve morale, and increase productivity.

Fourth Metallizer Machine in Tri-Pack Films Ltd.

In May 2011, signing ceremony for New Metallizer Plant of Tri-Pack held in Ò General Vacuum EquipmentÓ Heywood United Kingdom. This will be fourth Metallizer of Tri-Pack.This state-of-the-art machine is suitable for vacuummetallization for BOPP Films of 10 to 50 u and CPP Films of 15 to 150 u. It has a maximum width of 3250 mm withmaximum speed of 1000 meter per minute. Metallized films can be used in a wide variety of products. This machine produces products that can be used for many end products including stamping foils, decorative and barrier packing. They can be employed to conductelectricity, save energy and control light transmission.Coating generally provides either aesthetic improvementor reduce oxygen and water vapor transmission to levels similar to glass and metal containers.

This machine will be from General Vacuum Equipment, part of Bobst Group. It will be equipped with automatic control of optical density, which is measure of aluminum layer on the film. It will be equipped with best available vacuum pumps in the world. This will also be equipped with plasma treatment unit. Plasma treatment unit is usually not installed in all metallizer but Tri-Pack believes that we should give best services to our valued customers. Therefore we install plasma treatment unit in our metallizer machine. Plasma treatment system acts to enhance adhesion and or barrier against oxygen and water vapor transmission for improved packing performance and extended shelf life.

Tri-Pack Films Ltd. has placed order for two slitting machines to Atlas Converting Equipment UK for new BOPP plant. One machine is Primary Slitter that will be used to slit 8.7 meters jumbo mill rolls from BOPP line into small rolls depending on customer requirement. It will also slit jumbo rolls into small rolls for metallization unit of Tri-Pack Films Ltd. Other machine will be used to slit metallized BOPP roll from metallizer into small sizesdepending on customer requirement.

Both the machines are equipped with state-of-the-artequipments. Latest control techniques and winding technology is adopted. Tri-Pack and Atlas Converting has close working relations for more than 15 years. This time Chairman of Atlas Converting along with four team members visited Tri-Pack Plant at Port Qasim in July 2011, to see manufacturing facilities of Tri-Pack Films Ltd. During their visit, details of new machines were discussed and we strongly hope that with the addition of these two machines, we will be further able to serve our customers with our high quality products (InshahAllah).
