Enjoyment & Enrichment Workshops @Trimley St Martin
Dear Parent/Carer, In November 2014 the Felixstowe Family of Schools introduced a programme of enrichment courses
that took place on Saturday mornings. The very first morning was hosted here at Trimley St Martin
Primary School and then hosted at the other 6 primary schools in the area. Due to its success
Felixstowe Primary Schools have decided to continue the programme for at least another year.
Having now had each of the schools host an enrichment morning, we have had the chance to reflect
on what worked well and what could be improved to make these enrichment days even more
beneficial to our children.
Cycle 2 sees a number of changes from the previous cycle:
1. Each school will be given a suggested allocation of spaces - this will reduce the amount of
disappointed parents not being able to book courses.
2. From now on we will refer to the enrichment session as being linked to the mastery curriculum – a
chance for children to deepen their understanding within a particular subject area, to broaden their
knowledge base and to apply their skills in a range of different contexts which has a greater link to
the new assessment without levels and the new National Curriculum. Children selected to attend will
generally be showing strengths / talents in a particular subject area.
3. We have tried to be more explicit when indicating which children should be selected and ensured
the pitch matches that. The courses we run need to be challenging and expectations need to be high.
Each course will also highlight a key mastery skill / value that will be developed during the course and
which elements of the mastery curriculum it will be covering.
4. We have made changes to booking procedure to make it fairer. Invite letters will be sent out the
night before the booking starts on the following morning. The previous process meant that only
children who were picked up by their parents from school were able to get home quick enough to
book the space. This time round, hopefully, the booking process, combined with the fact that each
school will have a certain allocation, should reduce the amount of people unable to book onto a
course.
As every primary school has hosted an enrichment session, it is now time for us at Trimley St Martin
Primary School to host the first in the second cycle of Enrichment mornings. As before, the
workshops will be led by staff from our school or specialists connected to the school. All staff are DBS
checked and all have exceptional expertise in the subject of the workshop being delivered.
The workshops will take place on Saturday 16th January from 9:00 – 12:00pm.
Your child has been selected to attend one of these workshops; the details of the workshops are
attached and you can book onto these workshops by following the instructions below. Each
workshop will be free of charge to you and will instead be paid for by your child’s school.
If you would like your child to take part, please complete the application form on our school
website www.felixstoweprimaryschools.com.
When you complete your booking online, you will receive an instant confirmation on the screen
indicating whether you have been successful in securing a space.
You will not receive a confirmation email.
Timeline
Friday 8th January Letters sent out to school & selections made
Monday 11th January Letters sent home with children
Tuesday 12th January Booking opens on www.felixstoweprimaryschools.com at

Thursday 14th January Booking closes at 12pm
Saturday 16th January Enrichment Workshops start at 9am. Signing in takes place

Unfortunately the spaces per course are limited and spaces will be allocated on a first come first
serve basis. Our new allocations should help reduce the amount of parents unable to books spaces
on the courses. Letters will be released to schools on the same date (shown above) to ensure the
process is fair. The website will indicate if a workshop has been filled and the option to select it
will be removed as soon as possible to prevent disappointment.
When completing the online booking form, please indicate any learning needs, allergies etc. and
provide accurate emergency contact details.
Please find attached a map of the school and the workshops and guidance on where to park.
We really hope you support this event and take up the offer of additional enrichment activities for
your child. We do also realise that weekends are a busy time for families, and so, if your child is
unable to attend, it is likely there will be other opportunities in the future for them to take part.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. P. Stock Head teacher

Description of course:
This course has been designed to give children in year 2 the chance to develop their sporting skills further. Within a normal P.E. lesson there may not always be the opportunity to really fine tune the skills before playing a game. This workshop will be jam-packed with drills, skills and plenty of opportunity to apply those newly learnt skills to invasion games. Hockey will be the main focus but children will also get a chance to apply their skills to hand ball and ultimate Frisbee.

Description of course:
No doubt the majority of children have learned how to sing along to pop songs, copying the riffs and trills of Adele or strumming along to Ed Sheeran. This workshop is designed to help children understand how to use the most valuable tool they have; how to prepare it for singing, how to improve the tone and quality of their singing but also how to adapt it for different styles of song. During the workshop children will learn how to sing these different styles and then perform a medley of these songs at the end of the workshop, showcasing the new skills which they have learnt.
