Objectives :

1 ) To write an angle ( in decimal form ) using degrees , minutes & seconds.

2 ) To find the basic trigonometric ratios of a given angle using a scientific calculator .

3 ) To find the angle ( to the nearest degree. ) when the trigonometric ratio is given.

Angles are measured by the protractor.

The unit of measuring an angle is the degree ( ˚ ) الدرجة هي القياس ووحدة بالمنقلة الزوايا ( ˚ ) تقاس

1˚ = 60 min.

1 min. = 60 sec. ( 1´ = 60 ˝ )

1˚ = 3600 sec. ( 1 ˚ = 3600 ˝ )

Write 36.48 ˚ using minutes and seconds.

Example ( 1 )

0.48 × 60 = 28.8

36.48

0.8 × 60 = 48

So : 36.48˚ = 36˚ 28´ 48˝

Write 50˚ 48´ 12˝ in decimal form

Example ( 2 )

50 + + ≈ 50.803 48

So : 36˚ 48´ 12˝ ≈ 50.803˚

We can find the angle Ɵ when we are given the trigonometric ratio , we use the inverse trigonometric ratios.

Cos Ɵ = 0.6598

Press shift cos 0.6598 =

Find Ɵ ( to the nearest degree ) given that :

Display : cos-1 48.715 ≈ 49˚
