Trials used lower mouth guard mold set #12‐045. Tested at temperature profile from original 

carbon material, but prototype material had incomplete fill (at molars). Material flow different 

than expected, tended to get caught in areas of tight turns or smaller part geometry. Dimensions 

out by at least 10% to nominal. Shatter tests were excellent.

Trials for larger mouth guard mold set #13‐045 had similar failures and more knit lines, more flash. 

Material flow was more predictable, but had poor fill at random locations. Results improved with 

less material. Shatter tests were excellent.

Material appears unsuitable for complex geometric shapes, failed to develop  effective 

temperature profiles and run parameters. Failed to control critical variables, more trials @ larger 

quantities required.

MATERIAL CONSUMED:  (add summary of the raw materials that were rendered valueless after the 

trial was completed)  Ran 100+ prototypes of both mouth guard. Required 120 kg materials, [2] sets 

of prototype tips. Tips scrapped, material sent to re‐grind.
