The Next Generation of Marin

Everything that we have learned about terrain management in our 18 years of delivering award-winning full-suspension bikes is bred into the newest generation of Marin FRS: QUAD 3.0

Quad 3.0 Hits Three Major Design Targets:

- Tune-Ability - By ‘decoupling’ the rear shock from within the two linkages, and moving away from the 4-Bar/4-Bolt design on the short and medium travel platforms we are able to better tune the leverage ratio for these applications. It also allows the rear shock to be placed in a vertical orientation with easier access to the shock’s controls and adjustments.

- Efficient use of materials – the QUAD 3.0 system’s new layout repositions the pivots and linkages to make better use of areas of the frame that are already reinforced, like the bottom bracket area, one of the strongest parts of a frame. This allows use of lighter weight tubesets without sacrificing strength or stiffness.

- Progressive Leverage Ratio – As with previous versions of the QUAD system, the leverage ratio of the QUAD 3.0 system is progressive, or rising rate, however, the decoupling of the rear shock, and the newly oriented linkages allow more control over the leverage or ratio curve. The new leverage ratios have less ‘ramp-up’ than previous designs, making better use of the middle and later parts of the wheel’s travel. In short, the new design ‘feels’ like it has more travel, and works better deeper into the travel.

Quad 3.0 while radically different than previous generations of Quad FRS retains Marin’s proven superior terrain management qualities:

- Intelligent Wheel Path - The backwards movement of the wheel early in its travel results in tremendous small and square bump response, keeping the wheel in constant contact with the ground. The wheel’s arc returns toward the bottom bracket about one-third of the way through its travel, optimizing chain growth and eliminating pedal-induced feedback.

- Progressive Wheel-to-Shock ratio – Quad 3.0’s wheel-to-shock ratio, as its predecessors, is progressive in nature. Quad 3.0 however is more linear, yielding a softer initial feel and becoming more efficient in the middle and later parts of travel.

- Independent Braking – Braking forces, as with previous generations of Quad FRS, are isolated from the suspension. On the trail, this means that Quad 3.0 is virtually unaffected by braking, allowing for optimal terrain management.

SERIES OVERVIEW:

The 100mm travel QUAD 3.0 edition of the Rift Zone XC100 brings the personality and attitude of the Rift Zone up-to-date with the adaptation of the QUAD 3.0 suspension system. Stiffer and lighter than ever before, this year’s Rift Zone XC100 bikes ignore the line between XC and Trail, giving the rider the weight and efficiency of an XC bike with the suspension performance of a trail bike.

SERIES OVERVIEW:

The 100mm travel 2012 Rift Zone 29er XC100 is the fusion of two of our most successful MTB categories. Combining our acclaimed QUAD-Link suspension system to the 29-inch wheel platform, the Rift Zone 29er aims to set a new standard for what a 100mm travel 29er can do on the trail. Based on our hardtail geometry, the Rift Zone 29er geometry has been tuned for XC/Trail use, with a slightly slacker headtube angle and balanced bottom bracket height.
