Th e architecture is inspired by the distinctive style of Frank Lloyd Wright, with sleek expanses of glass and an over-height lobby that will feature a beautiful stained glass panel that is currently on display in the presentation centre.

One of the most exciting things about Celadon is the huge amount of natural light that every suite will feature. It’s apparent from the show suite that the large windows and airy fl oorplans are tailor-made to harness every drop of sunlight, even in the sometimes-rainy Lower Mainland.

opening weekend, and since then the number has reached over 70. Suites range from approximately 758 to 1,002 square feet.

Residents at Celadon will have access to a meeting room, lounge and a fi tness studio, as well as Windsor Gate’s amenities building, the Nakoma Club.

Th is 18,000-square-foot building holds a gym, screening room and an outdoor pool, as well as a meeting room and a basketball court. A resident concierge will be on site and available to help with your every need.

At Windsor Gate, you are just minutes from all types of amenities, including shopping, schools, transit and restaurants, so you won’t need to venture far outside of the community. Owners will receive a year’s worth of one-zone transit passes when they purchase their home.

“It’s the best location in Coquitlam,” Alam says. “It’s a quiet little enclave. I don’t think you can get the value anywhere else.”

Homes at Celadon start at $324,900. For more information visit www.polyhomes.com/community/celadon–apartments–coquitlam or call 604-552-7744.

The cold, we weather is a sure sign that we’rein the middle of fall and winter isn’t far away.So now it’s time to winterize your garden.

Some tips:

FLOWER GARDENSHeavy rainfalls have taken their toll on many gar-

den annuals and perennials. They will make greatcompost but removing them will leave your gardenlooking rather bare.

Winter colour plants, set out now, will add newlife and provide much needed colour to your win-terscape. Strategically planting winter colour ingroups with contrasting blocks of bright colours, like yellow with more pastel shades, creates themost pleasing effect. Groupings of hardy ‘RedBor’ and ‘Winter Bor’ kale, winter heather, violas, pansies and bright evergreen foliaged perennials, placed here and there in your garden and close toyour walkways, will give a tremendous lift to yourwinter garden.

It is still the ideal time to plant your fall bulbs.Plant them in well-drained soil at a depth of threetimes the diameter of the bulb. Plant bulbs ingroupings for the most pleasing effect. With properplanning, you can time your bulbs to bloom in se-quence from January through June. I’m a big fan ofbotanical or species bulbs that naturalize easily andcome back each year with an even more impressivedisplay. Make sure you have at least a few alliumsfor a great summer show in eight months time.

It’s the last call for lifting and protecting summerbulbs. Gladiola corms and begonia tubers shouldhave been lifted by now and they must be keptwarm at about 15°C. It is also the time to lift dahliaand canna tubers.

VEGETABLE GARDENSMany late vegetables can stay in the garden for

winter harvesting. These include turnips, parsnips,Brussels sprouts, Swiss chard and the new seriesof winter vegetables. If you do not have proper veg-etable storage, you can place a thick mulch of barkover your root crops and leave them in the groundas long as possible.

Fall is a great time to add existing compost toyour garden and there is still time to plant GardenRejuvenation Mix for invaluable green manure inthe spring. Speaking of compost, make sure you

take full advantage of all the leaves, old annualsand vegetable stems by composting them over thewinter. You might also wish to add more sand toyour vegetable garden to improve the drainage nextyear. Applying lime is important now too, except ofcourse where you are going to grow potatoes.

LAWNSCut your lawns quite low (1 inch) one more time

to allow more air circulation in and around theroot systems. This can prevent many disease prob-lems. To prevent moss from taking over your lawn, maintain a high level of nutrients by applying acontrolled-release, high nitrogen fertilizer, some-thing like Scott’s Turfbuilder Wintercare 30-0-9 andby applying prilled lime at the rate of 10 kilogramsper 2000 square feet to prevent acidic soil. It is toolate now to seed new lawns, but aerating and sand-ing now would sure make a huge difference.

TREES & SHRUBSNow is the best time to plant most evergreens,

fruit trees and shade trees. They are becoming dor-mant and, once planted, they will immediately formnew roots. By spring, they will have well estab-lished root systems. Some points to remember:

The quality of the soil in which you plant yournew trees will determine how well your trees grow.Work in plenty of fine bark mulch to open up andprovide good drainage in our heavy clay soils.

If your trees are in burlap sacks, you should leavethe sack on the rootball — it’s holding all thoseroots together!

Bare-root trees can be safely planted now. Theywill make new roots, getting them off to a greatstart come spring.

If you use a liquid starter, your trees will get afaster start. Evergreen hedges, planted now, willprovide a good windbreak for cold winter winds, thereby helping to keep your fuel bill down. Hedgeswill also give you privacy and at the same time, beautify your home. So all things considered, an ev-ergreen hedge is an excellent investment.

Many fall flowering trees and shrubs can beplanted now to provide winter beauty. These in-clude viburnum ‘Pink Dawn’, autumn floweringcherries, Chinese witch hazel ornamental grasses, jasmine and the many varieties of berried plantsto name just a few. It is critical that you begin or-ganic dormant spraying with ‘Green Earth LimeSulphur’ and ‘Dormant Oil’ in mid-November tocontrol insects and diseases that overwinter in yourtrees.

We are now entering a brand new season and it isso nice to have our lawns and gardens in shape forthe coolest and wettest time of the year. The addi-tion of winter colour is a pure bonus — one you willappreciate more and more as winter progresses.

Get your garden ready for (brrr) winterThere are things you can do for your fl owers, lawns and trees to helpthem weather the winter
