Hello, Well I can’t believe two months have passed already since becoming Exalted Ruler. Many thanks to all my officers for making it so easy. Many of us attended the State Convention in Cape Cod. Thank you all for supporting our lodge. A great big congratulations goes out to Carol Delory for receiving the First Place Award in Public Relations! Cinco De Mayo was celebrated in the lounge on May 5th and we had more food than we could consume! Thank you to Mark Eaton for the delicious spread! The Disco Party on May 11th was an awesome event. The upstairs hall looked like a Disco Club. Thanks to DJ Rob and all the volunteers who were involved. There were lots and lots of great costumes. Looking forward to the next dance party! The Mother’s Day Ritual was on May 12th . It was a short ceremony to honor all of our Moms and a small breakfast was served afterwards. Very nice! There were 11 new members initiated at the May 15th meeting. Welcome! And we look forward to seeing you in the lounge and hope you get involved in many of our events. Our first Car Show was on May 16th and believe it or not, it did NOT rain! There was a great turn-out and everyone had a fun time. Hope to see you at the Tiki Bar for the Thursday night Car Shows starting at 5 p.m. There are many events coming up in June. Our first meeting will be June 5th at 7 p.m. Our D-Day celebration will be held on June 6th with our honored guests from the Veterans Home in Bristol. Come and volunteer and you will have more fun with these men and women who fought for our country. They have great stories and great hearts! And let’s not forget Flag Day at the Johnston Senior Center on June 14th. Learn about the history of our flag and enjoy a meal. For more information please see Donna Warner, PER. Don’t forget the Steak Fry on June 8th – lots of food, huge steaks and lots of fun. I will see you there and hopefully at our other events. Congratulations to Wayne and Mary Jane Larned for being named Elks of the Month! Thank you Wayne and MJ for all your help when we need the both of you! As Exalted Ruler, by our bylaws, when names are proposed for Honorary Life Membership I am required to write why I believe these names to be worthy of this honor and why our members should vote to grant this request. I truly believe these two members nominated have earned this distinction. We will be voting on this at the June 19th meeting. They both have met all the requirements that we look for in consideration for honorary life membership for outstanding efforts and dedication to the lodge and Elkdom. (continued on next page)

The first member is Nick Rossi. For the last 10 years, Nick has gone above and beyond every aspect of Elkdom that you can think of. When most members are asleep or on their way to work, Nick is either cutting the grass or pulling weeds. He can be seen often with a paint brush in his hand. Over the last number of years Nick has been helping with every remodeling project that the lodge has undertaken. Nick has been with the lodge through good times and bad. He is one of the reasons the lodge is in the shape we are in at this time. The second name is Peter Fontaine. For the last half dozen years we have had a huge growth in membership from 400 to over 800 members and still rapidly growing. We have given back to the community in many programs including Neighborhood Relief, Veterans, Boy and Girl Scouts, Special Needs, Drug Awareness and the list goes on. All of these programs have been promoted by Peter. He continuously puts our lodge in the lime light of this community making everyone aware of who and what we are and all the wonderful things we do. I believe this is part of the reason we have grown to where we are at this time. I hope you will vote with me on June 19th to approve both of these requests. Fraternally yours, Debbie Mangina, Exalted Ruler
SECRETARY MESSAGE
Hello All, Here we are almost in June as I write this and it still feels like EARLY Spring or LATE Winter. I can’t decide which. On Wednesday May 29 we had a bear bones steak fry. Chicken was available if anyone wanted it. A good time was had by all. You were allowed to cook your own if you wanted to. I don’t know about you, but when I go out, I want someone to cook it for me. To be totally truthful, I would rather have it served to me and not have to go up to get it. I seem to be getting lazier in my old age but I am still having fun. Dennis, aka ‘Goober’ is trying a no-frills steak fry to help the club raise money. If enough interest is shown this could become a yearly event. June 6, 1944, ‘D Day’ is one of those days we will never forget. This is the day the greatest generation showed why they were the greatest. This was the beginning of the liberation of France and Europe in general. We as Elks, honor our Veterans, all Veterans, and hold a luncheon this day for them. They come here in wheelchairs and walk with walkers but come with a smile on their faces knowing they will receive the best treatment anywhere. They not only receive a great meal prepared by Mark Eaton and his crew. they even get to make their own banana splits after if they wish. We always need help welcoming them to our club and to help them get situated. If you want to do something to make yourself feel good for a long time come down, volunteer to help them get settled. You will be glad you did. June 14 is Flag Day and we have been celebrating it at the Johnston Senior Center for the last few years. This is the day we explain the history of each of the many flags that have flown over our Nation. For those who like history would like this day. The ritual part is about 30 minutes long and there is lunch served afterwards. Saturday June 8 will be our big steak fry with Antipasto, Salad, Steak Potato and more, all for $25.00. This steak fry is usually a sellout and the best in the area. Dave Knight puts a lot into this evening and it shows every year. The Yoga and Country Line Dancing have ended for the year and will resume again in September. Upcoming Events (See ads in bulletin for times) Wednesday June 5 – Meeting night 7:00 PM Thursday June 6 – D Day luncheon for our Veterans including those from Bristol Home Saturday June 8 – Steak Fry 6:00PM $25.00pp Friday June 14 – Flag Day at Johnston Senior Center Friday June 14 – Neal & the Vipers with Dave Howard 8:30PM-12:00AM $6.00 at door Wednesday June 19 – Meeting night 7:00 PM - Initiation Sundays Mudslide Walter and Karaoke 8:00 PM - Weekly Thursdays Car Show 5:00PM-8:00PM weather permitting Thursdays High Low Jack 7:00 PM – Weekly Thursdays Texas Hold em - 7:30 PM - Weekly
