Sympatex and the Environment

Environmental considerations are an important aspect of the Sympatex company philosophy.

The Sympatex membrane contains no halogens and its manufacture process is solvent free.

It is made of 100% polyester, which means it can easily be recycled at the end of a garment’s life without damaging the environment.

And, as it is totally windproof, Sympatex reduces the need for insulation, saving large amounts of raw materials. In 1998, Sympatex Technologies was the first company in the functional garment sector to set up an ecology profile for their membrane by external specialists.

The Sympatex membrane is kind to the skin, being totally hypoallergenic. All Sympatex membrane products hold the ecology certificate “Oekotex”, set up by an independent testing institute, stating that they meet the human-ecological requirements of the standard presently established.

The outer layer

A hard-shell outer layer is the first defence

against wind and rain. Different techniques

or combinations may be employed in

the construction of the hard-shell outer.

Generally a hard wearing synthetic fabric

is backed with coating that does not allow

penetration of water, yet allows vapour to

pass. Others may be a laminate of fabrics

including a membrane. The external facing

can also be treated with a DWR or Durable

Water Repellent treatment. This keeps the

external fibres from becoming saturated

allowing the transfer of water vapour from

the interior to the exterior, a key factor in

breathability and the layering strategy as

a whole. In addition to the performance of

fabric, venting can help immensely. Should

conditions allow, the opening of vents on

back, chest or underarm lets the wearer

dump a great deal of excess body heat and

moisture, without exposing themselves fully

to the elements.

Tres-Tex® waterproof and breathable fabric allows the wearer to stay comfortable and dry. WARNING this can result in ENJOYMENT of the outdoors in the wettest of weather!

Fabric coatings or laminates can be used to give the best performance across a range of prices. We develop and test a variety of finishes, giving Trespass the breadth of choice when it comes to outdoor clothing.

Outer shell works with layering by retaining body heat while expelling water vapour (sweat).At the same time wind is prevented from robbing this heat and external moisture (rain) is prevented from passing through.

Style Goldmund and Dahlia are just two designs from the Trespass Softshell collection. As well as their trademark performance and fit, they boast great technical looks.Both styles rate at 10000mm waterproof and 5000m.v.p. breathability. The zips are water repellent too, keeping the rain out and you dry. Elbows and knees (in the case of narcis & iris pants) are articulated. The elbows of both jackets are also reinforced.

We also apply great performance to a more casual set of jackets, Ylang Ylang and Fresia (opposite). Although they border on smart/casual in looks they still perform on the waterproof and breathable front. Both coming in at 3000mm and 3000m.v.p. Perfect for the commute to work or a forest walk.
