• In Australia in 2005 – 06 the average weekly earnings of women were $644 and males $983.
• This has been an occurance from the 1990’s to present as men continue to have higher wages then women
• In the present the average weekly earnings of women is still 8% lower then those of males.

Ethnic and cultural background
• In general those born over seas in English speaking countries receive higher weekly income levels then those born in Australia
• Migrants from Non -English speaking countries have lower income levels than Australian born people.
• Indigenous Australians suffer from low income levels.

• Single - parent households are around 30% below the average income levels.
• Couple households enjoy significantly higher wealth compared with single parents.

Geography • In the Australian capitol territory income earned is low,
the highest average weekly income is $1026 and Tasmania even lower.
• The more well of regions include: nsw, and the ACT
• Although it must be remembered the cost of living in a well of region is far more expensive then living in a low income area.
