You may string 40 beads on to the thread of yarn before you begin. 40 chains (crochet a bead into each chain) Round 1: 1 chain, 1 single crochet in second chain from the loop, then make a single crochet in each loop to the end. On the last chain make a total of 3 single crochet in the same chain. Do not turn. Now on the opposite side of the foundation chain, single crochet in each loop. On the last chain make a total of 3 single crochet in the same chain. Round 2: (crochet the same, continue, both sides of the foundation chain) 2 chains, *4 double crochets in the third single crochet, 2 chains, slip stitch on the third single crochet, 2 chains, repeat from * until the end of the round and slip stitch on the last single crochet from the previous round. Round 3: 2 chains, *single crochet in front of the first double crochet, 1 chain, single crochet in front of the first double crochet, 1 chain, single crochet in front of the second double crochet, 1 chain, single crochet in front of the third double crochet, 1 chain, single crochet in front of the fourth double crochet, slip stitch in front of the slip stitch from previous round, 1 chain, repeat from * except that at the end of the first side make 2 chains before and after the slip stitch and then continue on the opposite side as the same describe from *. Before the last slip stitch on the opposite side make 2 chains. Cut the thread. If you like you may crochet a few chains on both side and make a knot after that, as I did.
