Project Proposal

Project title

Elliott Viola nocturne no.20 in C sharp minor

Media, Media forms, technologies and time-scale

• Where do you plan to showcase or use the production?

On an online blog

I terms of marketing the production we will use social media such as Facebook with simple posters to tease the event and eventually release the production on Facebook for public viewing as well as putting up on our blogs, we believe that Facebook will be effective due to the different links we have established on it, for instance the 2016 students page where we can share the video, although YouTube is a good release platform we opted to use Facebook as it is more likely to be recognised; unless the YouTube channel is fairly big it is unlikely that it will receive a wide audience whereas Facebook is designed for sharing information making it very easy to send the video to people and allowing those viewers to spread the information, it is indicated when a face book friend had “liked” a video which may encourage others to watch it. An example of using Facebook as a promotion platform is one of the SU election candidates published videos onto Facebook and within a week one video received 2000 views suggesting that using word of mouth to promote the video is effective, however that is not the only thing we will do, we will make “teaser” posters (see page 16) and a video to promote the video and build excitement for the video and to generate talk about the video before it is released making it more likely to reach wider audience.

• What equipment and format do you plan to use for filming and editing?

700D cameras

Adobe premiere

Evaluation and review

How will you evaluate your production and how you have ensured that it meets the client’s need, including

your our performance

We will talk to the client and see what they think of our video (first draft) as well as our lecturer to see what they think and then add/ change material depending on what they say

Mood Board

For our music video we aim to use lighting and particularly colour to highlight out dancers as we want the main focus to be on the dancers and pianist. The idea of Yin and Yang was introduced because we wanted to have a colour contrast i.e. in a black dance studio we would have a dancer in white clothing and the same the other way around. This is mainly aimed to isolate the single person and make them stand out. This style was used by artists before for example Beyonce’s ‘Mine’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDvu1ehPq0g) music video has a similar look to what we plan for our

music video.

Marketing By promoting on Facebook via the artists profile we were able to show the effectiveness of our marketing strategy; we received 46, known, views of a teaser image within 10 days which helped generate conversation and anticipation for the video, another advantage of this method is that people can leave comments about the video which the artist can immediately respond to, the interface for this is much better designed for this sort of thing than YouTube making it much easier to see what has been said and what is happening also there is a stigma associated with YouTube comments making them much less inviting to create a conversation whereas Facebook your friends will see it first, making it more likely that the messages will be positive and people are more likely to share the images/ videos. Conclusion Overall I feel the project went well as we managed to complete the task of making the video however we had a few problems along the way such as being unable to use the dancer and the scheduling issues however we were able to work around that and made a more abstract piece because of it. Personally if I had more time I would prefer to do it again and I feel I could produce a better standard of work as I feel there was a breakdown of communication in this project between various people but this project has taught me to work around that to produce high quality content.
