We had a fun week getting to know your children and introducing them to the magical books of Mo Willems! Hopefully your child has found a special place at home for their treasure chest. Inside, they had their first treasure: a book that they can read to you at home. they will bring another book that focuses on simple sight words, color words, follows a pattern and has picture clues. They can add this second treasure to their box when they bring it home on Monday! We also made a Piggie and/or Gerald puppet with whom they can read their books or reenact the story. Making ice cream and eating it, creating ice cream art and writing about who they would share it with (come in and see our art/writing wall!), and play dough sundaes were also highlights to last week! This week look forward to:

Last WeekLast WeekLast WeekLast Week:::: We hope everyone had a nice Veteran’s Day! The previous week we went on our trip to Denny’s Pet World and it was a complete success! The children saw a great variety of animals and were able to touch most of them (tortoises, bunnies and iguanasride also went smoothly. When we got back, we read Day by Emma Dodd and created our own colorful day take home readers. The students also created a giant snake out of paint and used stamps to add texture. We wrote about our highlight of the trip and thanked Denny’s Pet World for the tour. I delivered it this week, so the next time you visit, look for it hanging on the walls in the back!

They used a variety of materials to construct a model (these came home on Monday but we kept the plphotos) . We were amazed by the focus and enthusiasm of the entire group during this project. We discussed the concept of opposites in our book and then went on a hunt to find opposites and pair them with eachmade sheep using the end of a toilet paper roll and paint of our choice. Also, we worked on our math skills by extended patterns of farm animals and sorting them according to size, shape and color. We created green sheep with mandarin oranges and veggie booty for snack!
