A MESSAGE FROM OUR PPRESIDENT
Notes from the Historian
Welcome Home A Hero
Update My dad Joe took
Garrett, Mimi and me to Dallas
where we met Aunt Jenny and Shelby Salge. They had
driven up from Sugar Land.
We stayed overnight at a hotel and had fun swimming and
using the treadmill in the workout room.
Early Saturday, we had to get out of bed to be at
the airport by 7:55 a.m. When
we arrived at the airport, our friends and prospective
members of Lee’s Traveller 957 Lucas and Jeremy Morin
and their parents Bob and Theresa were already there.
They had driven from Cypress
too. We met Samantha Barrett (Nicola Marschal 757) and her grandmother Jan Barrett (Director, Nicola
for leading us in the “Welcome Home A Hero” project at DFW Airport. Gabby Vasek, Garrett Vasek, Samantha Barrett and I attended. Lucas and Jeremy Morin, prospective members, surprised us and joined to help pass out Lifesavers. Gabby, Samantha, and I attended as Division Officers. Savannah, thank you for attending the Glenwood Marker Dedication on the same day as our DFW visit. I heard you did a great job collecting the marker
covers. I hope everyone can attend the next meeting at my
house. We’ll have a fun
meeting and I have a surprise for you. When the time
comes, you’ll know. Please note that the
Convention is coming up and I’d like for you to please try to
attend this event. Mrs. Sandy
Vasek has worked so hard to make this very special for us.
She’s actually been working on it since we were in The
Sherry Davis chapter so it’s been a long time.
If we don’t see you at the last meeting or
Convention, I hope you have a great summer and will be able
to attend the meetings next year.
Love,
Shelby
.
Marschall ) who arrived with
more Gummy LifeSaver thank you notes. We also met Mrs.
Becky Waid, Captain M.S.
Austin 2606 (Rockwall) who came to help. Mrs. Deena
Harrison came by and thanked us for coming.
We waited for about an hour and a half for the
soldiers to arrive. It was so
much fun seeing the soldiers and getting our picture made
with them. We had to work very fast to hand out the thank
you notes because the soldiers moved through the
greeting area quickly. They
wanted to go home. There were about 200 of them. We
got to say thank you to the soldiers for all they do for us.
They were coming from Afghanistan where my Uncle
Jason is serving. They were
all really happy to be home.
We had about 250 or more Gummy LifeSaver thank you
notes left. We took them to the
USO at the airport and they were given to the soldiers that were
leaving at noon for Iraq and Afghanistan. We were not able to
see them since they were in a secure area.
While we were waiting for
the soldiers to arrive, we had our picture taken with Miss Texas
International and Miss Fort Worth. It was a lot of fun.
CofC Contests I submitted several entries for the
CofC contests. I wrote a poem
about Robert E Lee, a poem about Nathan Bedford Forest and an
article on what “Dixie” means to me. For my art work, I submitted
my Traveller card and the chapter logo.

from the Thomas Jefferson Stubbs Chapter 2523 UDC in
Conroe. Here are the names of the books: “Wars that
Changed the World: The Civil
War”, “The Story of the Underground Railroad”,
“Amos Fortune”, “Nettie’s Trip South”, “Now Let Me Fly”, and
“History of the Civil War”.
Allison Hunter took “The Story of the Underground Railroad”
home with her at the April meeting. Thank you, Allan
Grimm, for already sending a thank you note to the Thomas
Stubbs ladies.
We also received a picture of Lee on Traveller
from the Bryan UDC chapter to add to our library. Allan
Chapter Library Update by Ross Salge
I went to the Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport to welcome home the heroes. We had a really good time. It was good to see the soldiers come home. They were very happy.
Notes from the Treasurer
Miss Melody Townsend deserves a "round of applause" for a job well done in the Texas Division UDC Sponsored 7th & 8th Grade Essay
Congratulations Miss Melody
also sent a thank you note for this gift. Thank you, Allan!
My Mimi, Mrs. Sandy Vasek, donated a Secession
Cockade for our chapter catechism lessons. She also
donated a set of the Flags of
the Confederacy for our chapter to use in catechism
study. Thank you! We have another
new book called “A Double
Batch” that our chapter purchased from the General
UDC Business Office. My mom plans to use it for a
historical lesson next year. Shelby and I are
donating a book to the
chapter library too. It’s called “Drums of War” but we
haven’t gotten to read it yet. Mrs. Carolyn
brought our flag to the April Memorial Service and it
looked so nice. Mrs. Carolyn is going to get the name and
address of the lady who blocked it for us so I can send her a thank
you note. It sure looked great for our Memorial Service.
I carried our chapter
flags & stands and metal Traveller to the Memorial Service.
That was the first time that I carried so much but I liked having
my own tasks to do.
I hope you’ll check some of our newest books out of the
library for summer reading! I’ll have the library available at the
last meeting at my house on May 17th.
Savannah has reserved
the stuffed Traveller to take home in May. Allison has been taking
care of him since our last meeting. Thank you, Allison!
Have a fun summer!
Love,
Ross

Ross - Ross lost another tooth on May 2nd making it his 3rd. This time it was a top front tooth. He is officially registered for Kindergarten too and is really excited so far! Ross has also been excited about getting his new ear plugs because he was able to go swimming over the weekend. Ross had tubes put in his ears a few months back and needed the custom-fitted plugs for the pool. He's ready for summer now…with a matching swim cap for extra

Shelby - Shelby has a new barrel-racing trainer and she's excited about that! Shelby also assisted her daddy, Lance, recently in presenting a Flag Certificate to her elementary school from the Alexander Hodge SAR Chapter of which Lance is a member. Shelby's working hard on her Bronze Award for Junior Girl Scouts too
so that is keeping her busy. Shelby is making plans to have a pet care business this summer. She wants to walk dogs, feed animals, or just visit them while their owners are away. She's been working on her business forms.
Savannah – Savannah has been moved up to Pre-Team in Gymnastics since the April meeting. She is waiting oon her AGA and USAG numbers to come in. She hopes to compete at a ranking level in Fall competitions.

You can ask your UDC chapter registrar, check with a registrar manual, or contact Ginny Robinson at [email protected]. General, and will be for the remainder of this term. -There should be a proof (which can be an approved UDC or CofC application) for each name, date, or place, and generation link. There is no need to send duplicate proofs. --Be sure to put the date of chapter approval. -Proof your work! It takes your registrar lots of time to make corrections, and it makes for a sloppy application! -Compare what you have printed to the application you are
using as a proof. Everything MUST BE exactly the same, unless an additional proof is provided, and noted in the proof line. -Correct fees are: $2.00 to Tx Div. CofC; $5.00 to Treas. Tx Div. UDC; $6.00 to Treas. Gen. CofC.
Your Division Registrar is finding MANY mistakes in the applications, and will appreciate the few extra minutes you spend to check over your applications before mailing.

Shelby and Ross visited a Confederate marker in Richmond, Texas. The marker contains information about the Texas Cavalry and how the Texans were used to riding horses. When their horses were taken away, they had to train as infantry which was something they weren't used to being.

Prayer
by An Unknown Confederate Soldier I asked God for strength, that I might
achieve, I was
made weak, that I might humbly obey. I asked for health, that I might do greater things, I was given infirmity, that I might
do better things. I asked for riches, that I might be happy, I
was given poverty,
that I might be wise. I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men, I was given weakness,
that I might feel the need of God. I asked for all things, that I might enjoy
life, I was given life,
that I might enjoy all things. I got nothing that I asked for, but
everything I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all men, most richly blessed.
