In the next 10 years, an extra one million people will call Sydney home. To cope with this extraordinary growth, Sydney’s transport network is undergoing major changes.
The projects include:
• LightrailfromCircularQuaytoKingsfordandRandwick
• AnewbusnetworkwithpriorityCBDroutes
• MajorupgradestokeyCBDtrainstations
• TheWynyardWalkpedestrianlinktoBarangaroo
• Trafficflowimprovements
• TheBarangarooFerryHub
• TheconstructionofSydneyMetroandanewharbourtunnel
• Anetworkofconnectedcycleways.
A comprehensive range of transport infrastructure projects are underway across greater Sydney with a key focus on the CBD.
There will be significant disruptions during the construction process, but the benefits will be considerable.
This guide focuses on the ways we can all work together to keep your business and Sydney moving.

Driving around Sydney
Driving around Sydney CBD during construction will be different. The roads you usually use are likely to be busier and your journeys may take longer than usual – driving may not be the best option.
Areas of George Street will be closed to traffic with a pedestrian zone between Bathurst and Hunter streets.
Walking
Getting off the bus a stop earlier and walking to your destination might help you beat congestion. With an increase in work zones, additional way finding and directional signage will be available.
Public Transport
To ease congestion during major construction we have redesigned the CBD bus network. The commencement of the CBD and South East Light Rail construction in George Street will mean bus services operate predominantly on new priority routes including Elizabeth Street, Castlereagh Street, Park Street, Druitt Street, Clarence Street and York Street.
The number of commuters using public transport is likely to increase as those people who normally drive seek a faster, or more reliable, alternative. Some train stations and services will become busier and some bus routes will change. Plan ahead, make sure you are aware of any changes in the area you are travelling to, before you travel.
For more information about the changes to the transport network visit mysydney.nsw.gov.au/cbd-projects
It is really important you plan ahead. Know before you go. Download real time transport apps here: mysydney.nsw.gov.au/apps
Deliveries and Services
In the future there will be changes to kerbside access and loading zones. You may need to consider changes to your delivery schedule such as re-timing when traffic is not so heavy. You may want to discuss these changes with your service and delivery providers.
PROVIDING improved ACCESS TO THE CBD
The road and public transport networks will be busier than normal. Think about what impacts this will have on you and your business. It is important to plan ahead and ask staff and suppliers to test their new plan. Use the four Rs; Reduce, Remode, Reroute and Retime to think about how you can adapt your travel.

Keeping your business moving: How we can help you
Transport for New South Wales has set up a free, dedicated business resource to help you called TravelChoices.
Our sole aim at TravelChoices is to ensure that businesses are given the help they need to manage the impacts of four years of major construction in the CBD.
Our team of advisors will be presenting free workshops where you can come and get answers to your queries and practical advice and support. They will help you fill in an action plan that will set out the key considerations for your business and give you the link to the team who will keep you updated during the works. Register for a workshop at mysydney.nsw.gov.au/travelchoices
Useful planning tools are available to keep your business, your staff and your operations moving during the construction period. To be prepared for the works, you can send the TravelChoices team a contact from your business who we can work with. Email: [email protected] orcall1800632500.
A series of maps have been produced to provide more information on the construction timetable, to advise you of how, when and where you will be affected. They pinpoint what changes are going to be made and when, as well as the likely impacts. They can be found on mysydney.nsw.gov.au/travelchoices
The construction program map on page 2 provides details on construction projects in the CBD and an indication of the different timings of the works.
