Why is Mass and Dimension such a focus to VicRoads and to TSS?

PRIMARILY

Protection of the States Assets:-

– Bridges/Culverts

– Pavements/Road furniture

– Replacement value in excess of $20b

– 25,000km – VicRoads

– 133,000km – Local roads

– 13,000 – Structures (5,000 VR / 8,000 Local)

Asset Protection

How traffic loads impact on pavements?

The risks of

depreciation of

our assets over

time not only

impacts on

maintenance

costs but has a

negative

influence on

road safety and

crash risk

reduction.

Black Spur Code of Behaviour (CoB)

VicRoads major concerns about log truck use of the Black

Spur include speed, travelling on the correct side of the road, trucks meeting at tight corners and allowing traffic to pass.

In addition, there are a number of community concerns that can also be addressed by demonstrating that logging operators will try to meet community expectations wherever possible

Black Spur Code of Behaviour

Page 18: Transport safety services russel greenland

Partnerships

Aim is to be self regulating – Peer pressure

Sanctions model both by industry sector and VicRoads

– Industry exclusion from contracts

– Cancellation of vehicle permits

Inputs from all sectors of the community including Police, local government, community groups and the public.
