Item Key Parties Status

Revision of AEIG Chapter on NRMM

ETC, Denmark, Germany, France, Belgium, Romania

Chapter revised – New project running

Decision on go/no go on COPERT 5 and priorities list-Parameters for CO2 fleet calculation in Excel-A/C parameters in Excel-Adjust mileage by the software to match fuel sold

Aviation (1/2)• Eurocontrol presented details of their AEM

model:– Detailed flight path– Detailed taxi-in/out times– Database of EFs for non turbo-prop aircraft– Species calculated: NOx, PM, SOx, VOC speciated,

…– EEA32 countries coming (but Liechtenstein)

• 2005-2013 time series submitted – Excel pivot table for UNFCCC & CLRTAP–

Eco-Innovations (1/2): Promising technologies to reduce CO2 emissions

Page 7: Transport Expert Panel Summary Report Milan, 2015-05-12.

Eco-Innovations (2/2)

• Benefit (1-7 gCO2/km) given per type-approval for introducing an innovative CO2 saving technology

• Technologies should bring real fuel consumption benefits on the road and not type-approval test

• 11 technologies already approved (lighting, solar panel, electrical components, …)

• Many more technologies in the pipeline

AEIG Revision: NRMMApproach

1. Consultation

2. Detailed data collection & review first - Tier 3

3. Aggregation of detailed data for Tier 2

4. Aggregate to generate Tier 1

5. Review of national activity datasets, and further aggregation for Tier 0

Main Challenges• Obtaining comprehensive and consistent input data.• Consistent and transparent aggregation for T2, T1, “T0”

Page 9: Transport Expert Panel Summary Report Milan, 2015-05-12.

AEIG Revision: Discussion Points

Tier 3 - Should we use limit values as EFs… when real world EFs are more appropriate!?

Tier 2 – EFs based on the Danish inventory. Sensible to aggregate IIIA, IIIB and IV in a consistent way (if possible).

Tier 1 - Amend to be year specific EFs.

Tier 0 Indicators – Identifying detailed inventories and commonly available datasets that correlate with emissions.

AEIG Revision: Feedback

• Several parties willing to assist– Effort to try to compare national stratification of fleet,

activity patterns by consultants

• Indicators may be useful in the absence of data– Again, effort by the consultant to develop meaningful

indicators

• Danish inventory team recently updated emission factors– Basis of the review– Assessment on the basis of technology used

Page 11: Transport Expert Panel Summary Report Milan, 2015-05-12.

• On-going, to be ready for 2016 submission• Evaluation group formed to provide

requests/ideas and assess interim versions of software

• New software to enable time-series and more flexible energy balance (more fuels)

• More vehicle technologies and some to be simplified
