Kvadrat has been leading the field in textile innovation since 1968 when our company was first founded. We produce high-quality textiles and textile-related products for architects and designers to specify in all market segments, including hospitality, healthcare, offices, culture and transport.

We consistently push the aesthetic, technological and functional properties of textiles. Our versatile collection reflects our commitment to colour, simplicity and innovation, and we collaborate with leading designers, architects and artists to explore textile use. These include Patricia Urquiola, Miriam Bäckström, Tord Boontje, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Thomas Demand, Olafur Eliasson, Alfredo Häberli, Giulio Ridolfo, Peter Saville, Finn Sködt and Roman Signer.

Originating in the small town of Ebeltoft in Denmark, Kvadrat has deep roots in Scandinavia’s design tradition. Our long heritage is a constant source of inspiration to us, although today we are a cosmopolitan company with a global perspective and a worldwide clientele.

Kvadrat fabrics have been used in some of the world’s most important architectural landmarks, such as Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; Museo Jumex, Mexico City; 30 St Mary Axe, London; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Oslo Opera House, Norway; Reichstag, Berlin; Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; Copenhagen Opera House, Denmark and Guangzhou Opera House, China.

The role of textiles

Textiles play a fundamental role in defining how we perceive, sense and use an interior. Curtains can transform a space by influencing light and acoustics, and when we interact with furniture, upholstery completes the experience.

Our high-quality textiles create an aesthetic atmosphere where people feel comfortable and relaxed, which increases well-being and productivity.

Importantly, our textiles can also be used when creating a safe working environment with clean air inside a vessel. This is because no chlorine or AZO dyes are used during the production.

Furthermore, we offer one of the world’s largest collections of IMO certified products, several of which also meet Norsok standards.

All Kvadrat textiles come with a 10-year warranty. Therefore, the textiles help to ensure an excellent resale price for the vessels, even after several years of usage.

The Kvadrat Transport Division specialises in developing and delivering timeless textile concepts and solutions. We offer a comprehensive suite of end-to-end services characterised by efficiency and quality.

Our approach to assisting with design concepts is very flexible: we can help you develop a design concept and advise on colours and textures for upholstery and curtains. In addition, we can assist with the choice of colour for flooring, wall-coverings and furniture to ensure that all elements in your interior complement each other.

The Kvadrat collection comprises a very wide choice of styles, colours and constructions made from numerous materials, such as wool, silk, linen, Trevira CS, recycled polyester and cotton. Sometimes, even that is not enough. In those cases, we offer our customised service of bespoke colours, prints or weaves. We can help you create a new design based on your corporate identity or any other theme of choice.

Our global network of local showrooms and sales teams is ever expanding. This puts us in an excellent position to provide local assistance and meet our clients’ exact requirements, wherever they are.

We keep approximately a million meters of textiles in stock so we are able to deliver to our customers very quickly. In fact, 97% of our orders are delivered on time.

As part of our post-sales service, we offer a logbook that includes sample card, FR certificates, the 10-year warranty, cleaning instructions and all the necessary technical information.

The textiles in the Kvadrat collection are characterised by colour, simplicity and innovation. We are always working to improve, making sure that we are doing everything we can to retain the highest possible ethical and environmental standards. As a result, many are particularly well suited for the transport segment.

Our textiles deliver exceptional abrasion, pilling and light-fastness performance. In addition, they are easy to clean and maintain.

Commitment to the environment

Respect for the natural and social environment is a guiding principle at Kvadrat. It is reflected in all our products, processes and supplier relationships.

We use the latest production techniques to maximise the quality of our textiles and reduce their impact on the environment. As a result, the environmental credentials of many of our woollen textiles have been recognised with the EU ecolabel.

Arlanda ExpressStockholm, Sweden

The projectThe Arlanda Express is a Swedish express train that offers the fastest transport link between Stockholm Central Station and Arlanda Airport. It has been awarded the Good Environmental Choice ecolabel by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.

SolutionSeats were made from approximately 4,000 square metres of Clara in four colours, one of which was specially created for the project. Clara was chosen due to the combination of high wool content, strength, excellent environmental credentials and good fire resistance. Headboards were made from more than 300 square metres of Blitz.

‘We chose Clara because we wanted a strong, fireproof and ecologically focused fabric with a suit-like look, as the Arlanda Express is primarily used by business travellers and people who prefer an efficient, pleasant and relaxing journey. In addition, the fabric met our requirements for life, movement and good colour range. BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept carMunich, Germany

The projectThe BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car is a revolutionary hybrid vehicle that combines driving pleasure with groundbreaking efficiency. The interior features the very latest technology and natural materials, reflecting the project’s focus on sustainability and performance.

Led by design director Adrian van Hooydonk, the BMW team created a highly attractive internal space. This combines innovative technologies and surfaces with a premiumquality look and feel. The body-contoured seats, for example, are made up of a Kevlar shell, a backbone structure, and padding with personalised fillings.

SolutionInterior seating was upholstered with Steelcut Trio, one of Kvadrat’s EU ecolabel textiles.

Leonora Christina FerryBornholm, Denmark and Ystad, Sweden

The projectThe Leonora Christina is a high-speed catamaran passenger ferry operating in the Baltic Sea. It was constructed by Austal of Henderson, Western Australia.

Launched in 2011, the ferry runs between Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm and Ystad in south-east Sweden. Owned by BornholmerFærgen, the ship meets stringent Danish environmental regulations. It has three passenger decks and two car decks, which can accommodate 1,400 passengers and 357 cars.

SolutionThe seats are covered with a specially developed version of Remix, created by Kvadrat in collaboration with Bornholm-based artist Ingelise Westermann: the fabric is in unique colours and features a pattern based on the coccotylus seaweed. In total, 1,454 metres of fabric was used.
