OverviewOncologists are expected to assimilate a vast amount of rapidly evolving data on the latest cancer research and treatment developments. While the majority of translational research in oncology is conducted in the academic setting, most cancer patients receive care in their local communities. Practicing oncologists are therefore in particular need of educational opportunities that help them translate basic scientifi c advances into clinically useful information.

The CME accredited conference Translational Medicine in Oncology: Bridging the Gap Between Basic Science and the Clinic offers a unique opportunity for academic and community oncologists and cancer researchers to interact and communicate about the application of cutting-edge science. Nationally recognized experts in the fi eld of translational oncology will present information and foster discussion focusing on the immediate clinical integration of scientifi c advances. Participants will take away practical information to assist in delivering the most effective cancer-fi ghting strategies for their patients.

Target AudienceThis continuing medical education program is intended for academic and community-based medical, surgical and radiation oncologists and hematologists, as well as scientists involved in cancer research.

Learning ObjectivesAt the conclusion of the program, the participant will be able to:

Identify potential collaborations among the participant lecturers on the basis of research fi ndings and clinical areas of interest

List some recent clinical advances that have arisen from translating basic research into patient care

Describe the potential roles of genomics in cancer

Discuss biomarkers that are emerging as tools in the diagnosis, monitoring, or individualization of treatment of patients with cancer
