Our School environment consists of many areas to explore both inside and outside. As you approach school on your first day you will see the grassed area which is for exploration and outdoor activities that need lots of space to be fully enjoyed. In this area the children are encouraged to den build, dig, climb and work together on both independent and adult guided tasks.

Our school has an inner fenced area where children experiment with mud kitchen equipment, explore water movement, construct with wood, learn to care for plants and work together to improve throwing, catching and aiming skills. The activities are open-ended to encourage children to manage their own risks during their play.

As we go inside, we have a long corridor where you will find your individual peg for you to hang your bag on. We encourage you to have a couple of changes of clothes and wellies for when you may need them.

Our toilets and hand washing facilities are to the left of the cloakroom area and are self-contained so that you are able to use this area independently when you need to.

As you return down the corridor towards the classroom you will see the alphabet and number lines, parent partnership information board and ‘reading pond’. In the reading pond, pairs of children enjoy sharing books and become ‘frogs’ as they learn how to blend phonemes together to begin to independently read. This area reinforces our approach to early reading by using the Read, Write Inc. scheme.

Step through the classroom door and you will find areas that give you different opportunities for play based and adult guided learning. You have areas to play with water, dough, paint and sand. Spaces to build, construct, glue and stick. Opportunities to explore, create, imagine and role-play. Some activities require time at small tables with other children and an adult such as fine motor control, maths, learning letter formation and supported early reading.

Our school days are very busy but we do have a structured timetable that we follow which takes us around to other areas of school to meet with children from different year groups. Some of our structured activities are our daily Read, Write Inc. phonics learning, school assemblies, lunchtime and small group learning which may require a quiet environment for adult supported group tasks.

We are very happy to begin to get to know all of the children and new families over the weeks to our school

start date. I would love to have your email contact so that we can begin this exciting phase of starting school together, answer any questions you may have and start to learn more about your child and families.
