The Transferware Collectors Club is pleased to announce that the

first ever TCC calendar for 2013 is now available for purchase from www.lulu.com. Profits from the sale of the calendar will go to the club in support of its member services and programs. This beautiful calendar was produced by TCC member Rich-ard Halliday with wonderful exam-ples of transferware from club mem-bers and museum collections. Each month has a transferware-themed image to reflect the many different colors and styles of the genre and each example is accompanied by a description of the pattern and the backdrop on which it is placed. Key holiday dates are included for the USA, Canada, Australia, and the UK. We are announcing the availability of this calendar in plenty of time for members to purchase as gifts for this year’s holidays and other special occasions.

This beautiful calendar is available to members and non-members alike and can be previewed and easily ordered at www.lulu.com. Just use lulu’s search for “TCC Calendar.”

Extraordinary British Trans-ferware: 1780-1840 by R &

R Halliday illustrates more than 300 unusual patterns and shapes that delight the eye and the brain of both the casual and informed collector of transfer-printed pot-tery. Richard and Rosemary Halliday, transferware collectors, researchers, and dealers, have photographed beautifully and written in luscious detail about each piece of pottery included in the book. The photography is excellent and the writing possibly even better. The book proves to be more than a pic-ture book. It focuses on the unusual, but is really a smor-gasbord of transferware. And, like a smorgasbord, there is a taste treat for everyone.

The book is addictive. I read it in two long sittings. There were shapes and patterns that I have never seen previously. The descriptions often in-clude a history of use: smoker’s sets, puzzle jugs, argyles, suckling pots and soap dishes are just a few of the items whose use is now unraveled from the past.

The Hallidays divide the book into seven chapters that

cover a wide range of subjects: Food Prepara-tion & Storage; Dinner and Tea Ware; Toilet & Medical Ware; Child’s Ware, Miniatures and Toy Ware; Commemo-rative, Named & Dated, and Special Order Ware; and Miscellaneous Wares. There are 320 pages that translate into nearly 300 transferware items and more than 1,200 images. A page (or more) for each piece gives the Hallidays room to include many photos of important features such as marks, close-ups, and, when available, source prints. There is also room to include information such as the maker and date of manu-facture.

This work is not intended to be a guide to all shapes and

patterns of transferware. However, there is information that will satisfy the novice and the expert.

It is truly a showcase of “Extraordinary British Transfer-ware”.
