[email protected] Anastasia: Thank you. Nicholas: If catering services are offered by the accommodation, does it offer the 3 meals (as in Breakfast Lunch

and Supper) or you can choose the ones to pay for and the ones you will cater for your self Uyi: Pls can you answer my question Elaine: HI Gayathri Athavan, No Endcliffe is not on campus as we are not a campus University, it’s about 20 minute

walk to departments, and Yes you can apply for mixed sex! International Office: UYI - there are limited studios within University accommodation. There are lots of private

accommodations which may be suitable for you and you can check with PropertywithUS for more information: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/ssid/contacts/property

Anastasia: Is it possible to get the CAS number earlier then 5 month before the beginning of the course? 2: Hi does the rent at opal 2 include gym and Wi-Fi facilities? lancy: Do I need to bring my own blankets or the university does provide that? Zena Wally: I wish to ask you if it is possible to leave our accommodation before the second payment which will be in

the 30th of April 2014, and is it compulsory to pay the second payment since we planning to leave earlier. We do not interested to extend our contract after the end of this period, and we may find a new accommodation near our children school in Hillsborough because we facing difficulties in their transportation. Please, let me know if "yes" what is the dead line for us to leave the accommodation before the second payment.

International Office: NICHOLAS - We don't offer catered accommodation, but we do offer a GeniUS card (formerly a GeniUS card) which is a pre-paid card you can use across campus

Uyi: Thanks, so please how much does the studio rooms cost Elaine: Hi Chin, There are no extra charges, you are already paying for the accommodation through Easter and Christmas International Office: ANASTASIA - No, you cannot. However for all CAS-related and non-accommodation questions, please

email [email protected]. We cannot answer these today. Anastasia: Thank you

Kyoungsoo Shin: Is it possible my friend stay a few days? International Office: LANCY - You can buy a pack with blankets etc. if you wish when you arrive, but there are also

many shops in Sheffield where you can get really great, cheap items. We do not provide these things as standard

RagheshV: Is there any provision for short term let i.e., for 2 - 3 months within university accommodation because I saw only 42 weeks and 51 weeks contracts in university website

Elaine: Dear Anastasia, if you are coming as a couple then you will be offered couple accommodation, family and couple accommodation is limited so we would not offer you a 2 bed property if it is not needed. Thanks

Chin: What about summer holiday which is not included in the 41 weeks contract? How much will I be charged if I wish to store my belongings in my room?

Uyi: How much does a studio room cost per month? Nicholas: International Office, does this GeniUS card allow me to have all the three meals or let’s say I only

want to use this card for Breakfast and Lunch only and supper I cater for myself? International Office: ZENA - once you have a contract, you cannot just cancel or leave mid-way through without

incurring charges. If you are coming with children, we strongly advise you speak with the Accommodation office before coming, and also with the Student Advice Centre who can offer advice on schools, private accommodation etc.

Anitah Azairwe: Are the rooms fully furnished? International Office: Student Advice Centre: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/ssid/contacts/advice Kyoungsoo Shin: No I mean one of my friends wants to visit UK when I am studying avi2208: Is the accommodation heated? stephanie.az91: Can we leave all our stuff in the room even if we are visiting our home country for the holidays

such as Christmas and Easter? Elaine: Hi RagheshV, Unfortunately we do not offer short term contracts, 42 or 51 weeks unless you are

coming for 1 semester then contracts are for 18/20weeks International Office: Hi ANITAH - yes they are fully furnished in university accommodation and AVI yes they are heated Uyi: Pls answer me International Office: STEPHANIE - yes you can, unless you have a 42 week contract when you would have to move out

over summer RagheshV: Thank you Elaine, I am coming for post-grad 1 year

Page 16: Transcript of Accommodation and International Office Web Chat/file/TRANSCRIPT1... · Essam k. Farid: you are right International Office: We will look to answer all questions in the

Anitah Azairwe: So I do not need to carry anything apart from my suitcase. International Office: CHIN - You have to move out and find your own storage or take things home for the summer. There are

numerous storage facilities in Sheffield but the university doesn't provide this. Michael Chen: Hi Elaine, Just wondering if these accommodation options group international students together or will it

be the locals too? International Office: MICHAEL - it is mixed accommodation Michael Chen: Thanks Student: Hi does the rent at opal 2 include gym and Wi-Fi facilities? International Office: KYOUNGSOO - We don't offer guest accommodation. lancy: Can you explain what you mean by mixed accommodation for clarity sake? International Office: There are lots of B&Bs and hotels in the area, and if you are in private accommodation you might be able

to have people to stay Nicholas: As I well understand UK weather, are these rooms heated/have warming facilities? Uyi: Do u have accommodation for a couple? Elaine: Hi Uyi, The studios cost about £150 a month the prices are on our website:

http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective/rents International Office: LANCY - mixed UK and international students, some flats will be mixed gender (you can specify if you

prefer to be in single sex) Tanay: Hi does the rent at opal 2 include gym and Wi-Fi facilities? International Office: Opal 2 is mainly private, but will not likely include the gym. Tanay: Thank you. International Office: Please check on Opal 2 web pages for details of Wi-Fi Elaine: Hi Kyoungsoo Shin, It is possible for friends to stay in the accommodation, but remember you will be

sharing your kitchen and living area so it’s always nice to ask your new flat mates as it is also their flat. RagheshV: Which one is the nearest accommodation from the Chemical & Biological Engineering department?? International Office: Hi Uyi, The studios cost about £150 a month the prices are on our website :

http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective/rents Assinnari Ahmad: Excuse me I have a conditional offer with ELTC course acceptance to start at 30.june. I applied and you

sent me a form to sign stating that I have an unconditional offer. What should I do? Should I apply again? Tanay: What about Endcliffe. Does rent include gym and Wi-Fi? avi2208: Are all the bills covered in the rent we pay?

Page 17: Transcript of Accommodation and International Office Web Chat/file/TRANSCRIPT1... · Essam k. Farid: you are right International Office: We will look to answer all questions in the

International Office: RAGHESH - Please scan upward for information on locations given earlier in the chat lancy: So does the mixture also includes undergraduates mixing with postgrads? Also in the case of mixed sex

accommodation - what will happen to the bathroom facilities? Elaine: HI Chin, you cannot store you items in accommodation if you are not living in a room, most students either

store their items in a storage company or with friends if they are travelling for the summer International Office: Any accommodation should be suitable for any department as they are all conveniently located. See the

web pages for more information: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective Uyi: In city and central accommodation will I enjoy free internet facilities and how many persons share a flat? International Office: Bills are covered in university accommodation AVI Nicholas: Please I want someone to answer me.my question is are these rooms heated/have warming facilities? International Office: LANCY - generally we try and keep undergraduates with undergraduates etc. Bathrooms in most cases

are en-suite. If you share a bathroom, this will be shared with your flat only (so only those people you are living with immediately). Bedrooms are private.

Elaine: Hi Nicholas, the geniUScard will have £47.50 food allowance each week. I don’t think it will cover all 3 meals, most students we have spoken with make their own breakfast in the flat and use the card for lunches and dinners, hope this helps

rishabh: How do we self-cater? Do we have a kitchen facility? And how many would we sharing it with. International Office: Rent includes all utility bills, room insurance and internet in university accommodation International Office: Flats are for up to possibly 8 students, though most will be 4-6 people Nicholas: What is £47.50 food allowance Elaine? crystal: Could I select which room I want? If I'm not satisfy with it, could I change it International Office: Kitchens are shared and there is enough fridge and cupboard space for however many people are living in

the flat, rishabh: Great thanks Elaine: HI avi2208, The accommodation comes with heating, water and internet included in the rent so do not

worry about the cost of this! Plus the flats are usually really warm, as most students are walking around in shorts and when it is snowing outside!!

International Office: CRYSTAL - you can choose the accommodation you prefer on your application and where possible, you will be allocated this. Switching of rooms is unusual and given the number of students we have here, we cannot simply switch unless there is a problem

Page 18: Transcript of Accommodation and International Office Web Chat/file/TRANSCRIPT1... · Essam k. Farid: you are right International Office: We will look to answer all questions in the

18

International Office: If there is a problem, you would contact the accommodation office and they would look into this for you, where possible.

avi2208: Thank you Elaine crystal: Thanks Elaine: HI stephanie.az91, Yes you can leave all your belongings in your room through Easter and Christmas, so do

not worry just remember to lock your room and close your window as you should do daily when leaving the accommodation. (just in case!)

International Office: How far your money goes would depend on what you buy NICHOLAS - most people will be able to buy a weekly shop for one person with around £30-50, but the £47.50 is for food in university outlets, with meals costing about £5 I would think

Uyi: Does it mean that even if we are to share kitchen each person will have its own fridge? International Office: I'd suggest that you take a look at some of the major supermarkets in the UK for ideas of food costs

(Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda etc.) International Office: No UYI there will be shared fridges crystal: Could I select the floor? International Office: You would likely have shelf each for storage Assinnari, Ahmad: Can I apply for both summer English school and the master year? Uyi: So can’t I have my own fridge? avi2208: Applying online for accommodation requires application number. Is this the same as my UCAS id? International Office: CRYSTAL - No, but you can put a preference on your application form. There are no guarantees we can

meet all these. International Office: AVI - yes Osawaru: Are there elevators in the buildings or just stairs?

Elaine: Hi Michael Chen, We have a mix of flats, some are all UK, or half UK and half overseas or we also have some full overseas flats and we also offer single sex and mixed sex! its lots of fun allocating!!

crystal: Thanks Michael Chen: Thanks Elaine! Tanay: Do we get food allowance in City Accommodation?

International Office: ASSINNARI - Yes, you can apply for both your ELTC course and also your University course accommodation. Please do check the accommodation web pages for details and if unsure, contact the [email protected]

avi2208: Thanks Nicholas: How far are food stores or groceries from the accommodation? Elaine: HI Rent at Opal 2 does not cover the gym, but Opal2 have lots of great offers once you arrive in Sheffield,

so check this out when you collect your keys! International Office: There tend to be both OSAWARU for the larger buildings Assinnari, Ahmad: Thank Office International Office: Most are located very close by NICHOLAS lancy: In case of shared facilities like fridges who then will be responsible for the general cleaning and upkeep of

the items like stove, fridge, even the bathrooms? Gayathri Athavan: Elaine Is Endcliffe within University campus or not. Basically I want to avoid outside contact till I settle International Office: You would be responsible, along with your flatmates LANCY International Office: It's part of learning to live together with other people. International Office: GAYATHRI - The University is not on a campus. Endcliffe is close by to the main university buildings (within

20 minutes) and it would be just Sheffield students living there Uyi: Elaine pls which accommodation have gym facilities and are they free International Office: None of the accommodations have free gym facilities, I'm afraid lancy: What will happen if the upkeep is not being done by other flat mates e.g. the bathroom or floors are dirt? Elaine: Hi Nicholas, sorry there are lots of questions as you can see there is heating within the rooms and flats as I

said earlier. Also the £47.50 is an allowance provided with catered accommodation, so if you apply and live in catered you are given a card with £47.40 allowance which is topped up weekly and you can spend this in any of the catered outlets throughout the university

International Office: The University has its own gym: http://www.sport-sheffield.com/ Uyi: So how much do the gym facilities cost a month stephanie.az91: When will we receive confirmation concerning the accommodation application? lancy: How much is the gym? Nicholas: Thanks Elaine! International Office: LANCY - You would be responsible for cleaning, with your flatmates. There tend to be flat inspections to

ensure you are all working together to look after your accommodation. Elaine: Hi Nicholas, there is a village store in The Endcliffe village its self, or there are lots of shops within 5

minutes form any of our properties, so do not worry about this! Farah Hijazi: Hello

International Office: Please follow the Sport Sheffield link for details of the gym and its costs RagheshV: Which one is the best private hostel you would suggest other than university accommodation facility near

Sheffield?? Elaine: Hi Lancy, we are not sure about the cost of the gym, when you arrive Opal2 have offers so you can find out

then and sign up if you want International Office: STEPHANIE - Once you have applied for accommodation you should get confirmation of receipt. More

information about how to apply: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective/apply/stepbystep

International Office: We wouldn't recommend staying in a hostel long-term RAGHESH Tanay: I could not find any catered accommodation for postgraduate students. avi2208: Will we be able to choose flat mates in future? International Office: AVI - for future years, you would arrange your own accommodation with your new friends at Sheffield avi2208: Thanks International Office: WE HAVE JUST 30 MINUTES OF CHAT LEFT TODAY The chat will close promptly at 12.30 Elaine: Hi Tanay, Only catered students get food allowance, however you can also purchase a GeniUS

card( catered allowance card) . If you live in self-catered and wish you can purchase this card and use it in the outlets, or you can just go to the outlets and buy as you go. I often go on a Friday morning and get a breakfast sandwich as a treat!

International Office: For questions after the chat email [email protected] or for accommodation enquiries, [email protected]

Nima Movahedi: Hi, I applied for Scholarship for PhD study, what should I do now for my accommodation? Farah Hijazi: What kind of accommodation will I receive? lancy: On room allocation - do I have a choice or the university simply allocate a room for me such that I can be

paired with someone with totally different habits? International Office: NIMA - you can apply for accommodation as soon as you have accepted a conditional or unconditional

offer. Details of how to apply: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective/apply/stepbystep candice: Hi, I would like to ask the difference of a deluxe room from a studio? Do both types have kitchenettes?

Thanks! International Office: Unfortunately LANCY we cannot guarantee what people will be like whom you live with - you'll be matched

as best as possible with others of similar age etc. International Office: We can't be as specific as matching people on the same interests, habits etc.

Page 21: Transcript of Accommodation and International Office Web Chat/file/TRANSCRIPT1... · Essam k. Farid: you are right International Office: We will look to answer all questions in the

RagheshV: Why is it that I find university accommodation more expensive than private accommodation in Sheffield?? International Office: Both will have kitchenettes CANDICE - the deluxe is likely to have a bigger bed, though International Office: RAGHESH - private accommodation tends not to include bills etc. Elaine: Hi lancy, it is the students responsibility to clean the fridges and kitchens etc., If you’re in an en-suite

bedroom the bathroom is within your bedroom so again you must take responsibility of cleaning this. However if you are in a shared bathroom the cleaning team will clean the shared bathroom 3 times a week!

Tanay: How many students will be sharing a flat in opal 2 ? International Office: When you add up the cost of bills, then private and university accommodation comes out very close Farah Hijazi: How much does university accommodation at Sheffield cost Tanay: What parameters are taken into considerations for allocating roommates? Elaine: Hi lancy, there are inspections throughout the year and flat arrangements are also made at the start, so

hopefully you end up with a good group who like to keep the place clean! International Office :It will depend TANAY - it could be from 2-8 students, though you'd need to check on the Opal 2 web pages

for details. Facilities tend to match the number of students, so if there are 3 there may be 1 fridge but 8 students would have 2

crystal: Is the Aspect3 belongs to the university? International Office: Level of study, preference for mixed gender or single sex - TANAY lancy: Are there any restrictions on female visitor entering male student room? Elise Renaud: Hi, what is the cost of accommodation? Elaine: Hi Tanay, I can confirm that postgraduates can apply for en-suite catered and would be offered

Carrysbrook court in Endcliffe village! candice: I see. How come the studio costs more than the deluxe? Is it because it’s bigger? How many square

meters are the studio and deluxe? International Office: Rent prices:http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective/rents RagheshV: Thank You International Office: Studios are more expensive as they are self-contained flats for one person only Zahraa Abuhameed: Hello , I would like to ask about family accommodation, I have an unconditional offer to study masters of

dental public health, and could you please tell me any information about the family accommodation Elaine: Hiavi2208, Yes you can , you can pick a group and choose to return to us and live again in university

accommodation, we offer flats or houses to returning students or you can find accommodation in the private sector, it’s up to you and there are plenty of options!

Tanay: If I have to change my option from opal 2 to Endcliffe, what is the procedure? Till when can I make that change? avi2208: Thanks Elaine stephanie.az91: So we won’t know what the university has chosen for us till mid- July? candice: Thanks! Deluxe will still have a common area but has an en-suite bathroom and kitchenette? akuabata: I hope the locals are not racist esp. to international students? Jane Doe: I hope they treat me equally Elaine: Hi lancy, I am afraid so, we only allocate on room choice and location, we do not know students

hobbies or interested, so cannot group like- minded people together Muhammad Arbab: What are the possible packages of room available? Nicholas: Please Elaine, you’re talking about this Endcliffe and am getting really confused, can you provide

me a link of the University map? International Office: ZAHRAA - Please contact the accommodation office directly for family accommodation

information given that all families will have specific needs: [email protected] Nima Movahedi: For normal accommodation please give me the related link International Office: Also, you can contact the Student Advice Centre who can advise on all family-related matters, like

schools and nurseries as well as accommodation: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/ssid/contacts/advice

candice: Is it possible for guests to stay in the room? What is the maximum number of days? Elaine: HI candice, deluxe rooms do not have kitchenettes, they have a double bed and bathroom and

share a full kitchen with the flat mates, a studio have a small kitchenette within the bedroom and a double bed and bathroom! Hope this helps x

International Office: General link for all accommodation and how to apply: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective

not only in late June. Isn’t it late to apply for accommodation? candice: Thanks Elaine! How is the deluxe different from the en-suite room then? International Office: Great ZAHRAA - I'd advise keeping in touch with accommodation office and also getting in touch

with the Student Advice Centre for any other family-related matters

Muhammad Arbab: Is there any way to make sure the food given to us is Hilal? International Office: CANDICE - generally, you'd need to discuss guests staying with your flatmates out of

politeness, as it will be their home too. Most students will have occasional friends to stay with them in their rooms for a day or two, though

Parita: Is it too late to apply for accommodation in June because I am waiting to know if I get a scholarship or not?

Elaine: Hi RagheshV, remember the rents shown in University contracts have all bills and internet included, this is not usually the case for private accommodation so please take this into consideration when making choices, you do not want any unexpected surprises!

Tanay: If I have to change my option from opal 2 to Endcliffe, what is the procedure? Till when can I make that change?

Pauline: In the case that one does not feel comfortable at the university accommodation, is it possible to terminate the contract and/or change hostels? Are there any consequences?

International Office: ALI - you can apply now for accommodation once you have accepted your offer, and before you get sponsorship.

RagheshV: Thank You Elaine.. I will definitely consider that Elaine: HI Tanay, The majority of flats in opal are for 6 students! International Office: You won't be allocated it until you have an unconditional accepted offer anyhow but then

we have your information ready to go if you come to Sheffield candice: Alright thanks! Nima Movahedi: What is the procedure for normal accommodation application? International Office: PARITA - please apply for accommodation now anyway, as soon as you have a conditional

accepted or firm offer. You won't be allocated any until you have an unconditional accepted/firm offer and are issued with CAS, but we will have your application on record and ready to go

Ali: I did accept my offer, but I won’t need accommodation if I don’t get my sponsorship International Office: Application procedures, step by step:

wanted to know that 9600 pounds will cover accommodation and food for 1year? International Office: ZAHRAA - I'd advise speaking with the accommodation office directly ZAHRAA, and with the

Student Advice Centre to discuss your specific case lancy: Thank you for the information. I am done Student: My sister and I are going to attend the university in the same year. Will it be possible to share one

place? Elaine: HI stephanie.az91, allocations start from mid-July, but if you have conditions to meet then you will

not find out until your conditions are met, example most students have to wait until august as they are waiting on a-levels!

Parita: Thank you Claire: You can find maps of the University and the city on this link:

http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/visitors/mapsandtravel International Office: RIJU - you can see rents here on-line -

http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/accommodation/prospective/rents Elaine: Hi stephanie.az91, please note this is because we do not want you to pay any money before you

know you are coming to Sheffield RagheshV: Is there any chance that after 3 months, I can discontinue University accommodation and move to

a private accommodation during my studies? Nima Movahedi: Is there any particular sequence for normal accommodation application? Zahraa Abuhameed: Also, they say that some of the students may renew their contracts so what should we do?? Elaine: Hi candice, the en-suite is a single bed with bathroom and the deluxe has the double bed! International Office: ZAHRAA - please call the Accommodation Office to discuss your specific case. I would also advise speaking

offer you advice, [email protected] Ali: Studying my master programme has a possibility of spending my last 10 weeks somewhere else with a

company (doing my master thesis). Is it possible to apply for 42 weeks and extend the rent to 51 weeks when I need it?

International Office: Unfortunately, this area of advice isn't my expertise but I can strongly recommend students with families speak with the Student Advice Team for confidential and impartial advice on all things family-related, including accommodation and schools etc.

Riju Roy Chowdhury: So I can apply for Accommodation now or after I get my CAS Number? Zahraa Abuhameed: Thank you so much for your effort. Can you please give me the email of the student advice centre? International Office: ALI - It may be possible, but would not be guaranteed so do speak with the Accommodation office before

choosing the length of contact International Office: Follow the link above ZAHRAA for their email and phone numbers johnson ogbodo: Hi, I just got an offer For MSc. in Process Safety and Loss prevention part-time and I want to find out if I
