TransAlp Road Cycling Munich to Lake Garda, via the Italian Dolomites Visit www.cyclebavaria.com or e-mail [email protected]

Day 1 - Munich to Bad Tölz (85km) Our first day riding is the perfect warm-up for the coming days.  Heading south out of Munich and before long we will be cycling along the shore of Germany's fifth largest lake, the Sternberger See.  Then, we get to ride along some quiet country roads until we reach our first overnight stop in the spa town of Bad Tölz.

Day 2 - Bad Tölz to Innsbruck (100km)

Today is the day when we start our journey in to the mountains of the Alps.  Not a lot of climbing, but we ride up a number of valleys, with different ranges of the Alps either side of us.  Once in Austria we follow the River Inn to our destination just outside the city of Innsbruck.

Day 3 - Innsbruck to Bruneck (105km)

By the end of the 105km cycling today we will be at the northern tip of the Italian Dolomites, but first we have to conquer the climb out of Innsbruck, the historic Brenner Pass, which has been used as an Alpine pass for thousands of years.  Once the border is crossed, there is an easy descent down to the town of Sterzing before we make our way east where we stop overnight just outside the town of Bruneck.

Day 4 - Bruneck to St.Ulrich (105km)

If you have never ridden in the Dolomiti, which are some of Europe's most dramatic mountains, then you are in for a real treat today.  Fantastic quiet roads with switchbacks, some great climbs such as the famous passes of Pordoi and Sella, and spectacular views of the Dolomites from heights of well over 2000m.

Day 5 - St.Ulrich to Trento (100km)

After the last couple of days of climbing today is an easy 100km, almost all of it descending or flat, as we ride down the Adige valley to the old town of Trento which lies at below 200m.  The climbing is not over yet however, tomorrow we have to immediately tackle the famous Mt Bondone so today is a great opportunity to rest the legs, and enjoy the cycling.

Day 6 - Trento to Peschiera del Garda (125km)

Another spectacular day of riding lies ahead but before we get to cycle along the shore of Lake Garda, there is one more serious climb, the Mt Bondone where we reach a peak altitude of nearly 1700m.  But then we quickly descend down to the lake for the second half of today’s ride where it's flat, not much higher than sea level, but still with gorgeous views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Day 7 - Day of departure

Lake Garda is the ideal place to relax for a few days after 600km of cycling, and also very close to other holiday destinations such as Venice and Milan, but if you are planning on flying home there are a number of nearby airports within easy reach, including Verona and Venice.  Our team will be remaining in the area for most of today so will be there to support you to get to wherever you are going.  Alternatively, catch the train back to Munich with one of our team and let us take your bike to Munich in our Support Van.
