Summer Programs Encourage Love of Nature

WHO:The Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge is one the largest city-owned nature centers. WHAT:Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge will host its annual Summer Natural History Adventures June 8 – July. The Summer Natural History Adventures are one-day camps for children to explore and learn new things about the Nature Center. The camp includes crafting, canoeing, and exploring the habitats.

About Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge was founded in 1964.

It’s one of the largest city-owned nature centers.

It has over 3,600 acres reserve with 20 miles of hiking trailers, a resident bison herd and prairie dog colony, structures built civilizations (CCC), three ecosystems and many amenities and attractions.

The center offers a wide variety of programs, classes and guided hikes each week.

About Friends of the Nature Center Friends of the Nature Center were established in 1974.

A non-profit organization with 40 individuals who preserves and protect the natural and cultural resources that are the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge.

About The Summer Adventures The adventure is available for children grades kindergarten through sixth grade.

The adventure starts with kindergarten from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays.

First through sixth grades are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

After Camp Daycare available Tuesday-Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. for $5/day per child.

According to www.srs.fs.usda.gov, the most popular types of outdoor participation, as measured by number of people participating include:

88.3 percent of participants go on Individual Trail/Street/Road Activities 82.3 percent of participants on Family Gathering 59.5 percent of participants on Viewing Natural Scenery 56.6 percent of participants Visiting a Nature Center, Nature Trail or Zoo
