Training  vs.  Lecturing

There  is  a  definable  difference  between  a  trainer  and  a  lecturer.

There  are  similari8es  such  as  knowledge  of  the  subject  material  and  the  reputa8on  as  an  expert  in  the  industry.

What  I  would  like  to  discuss  are  the  methods,  quali8es  and  abili8es  of  trainers  that  differen8ate  them  from  pure  lecturers.

Principles  of  Educa8onal  Psychology

Learning  comes  through  experiences  which  are    shaped  by  goals  or  purpose  •  Physical  ac8vity  is  much  be`er  than  memoriza8on  as  a  means  of  learning

•  Physical  ac8vity  can  enhance  memoriza8on

•  Physical  ac8vity  facilitates  conceptualiza8on

Page 24: Training(vs.(Lecturing( · 2015. 2. 17. · Presented(By: David(Sawchak(Execu8ve(Director(Naonal(Solar(Trainers(Email:(david@naonalsolartrainers.com (URL.:(( (Training(vs.(Lecturing

Principles  of  Educa8onal  Psychology

Learning  is  an  ac8ve  process  •  The  more  ac8ve  and  engaged  the  students  are  the  more  they  will  learn.

•  Ohen,  concept  forma8on  depends  less  upon  the  depth  of  the  experience  and  more  upon  the  amount  of  it

•  Start  experiences  simple  and

then  increase  complexity  in  small,              rela8ve  steps

Page 25: Training(vs.(Lecturing( · 2015. 2. 17. · Presented(By: David(Sawchak(Execu8ve(Director(Naonal(Solar(Trainers(Email:(david@naonalsolartrainers.com (URL.:(( (Training(vs.(Lecturing

Principles  of  Educa8onal  Psychology

Conceptual  Forma8on  •  Formed  by  naming  and  classifying  things  in  groups  •  Start  concepts  simple  and  then  increase  in  complexity  in  small,  rela8ve  steps  i.e.  open  loop  &  closed  loop  systems  and  then  progress  to  DB  Drainback  ,DX  Drainback,  Steamback,  and  Combi-‐systems

Principles  of  Educa8onal  Psychology

Conceptual  Forma8on  •  Things  learned  last  will  typically  be  remembered  with  all  other  things  being  equal

•  Con8nually  strive  in  your  presenta8ons  to  bring  forward    important  concepts  taught  earlier  by  tying  them  into  the  concepts  later  in  your  presenta8on
