1. WEL-GEL 25 kg Sacks price 10.002. WEL-GEL 25 kg Sacks price 12.00this is Allowed

BUT if we try to do this

Here we have WEL-GEL at 25 kg sacks and price 10.00

If we add WEL-GEL again at 25 kg WE MUST USE A DIFFERENT PRICE.

NOW We must use a different Price for the second WEL-GEL 25 kg Sacks.

If you try to enter and Save the same product with the same size and price then an error willappear.

The main part of the management of products in each well involved in a batch drilling projectis to ensure all products are taken into the inventory and used on a daily basis.

An important point to note is that when you “Switch” to another well the END inventory forWell 1 will be Transferred to Well 2. HOWEVER AN IMPORTANT POINT NEEDS TO BESET IN WELL 2.

Well 2 MUST be SET with a new Fluids Report that has ZERO STOCK usage. This will allowyou to receive into the Inventory from Well 1 as the Start Inventory for Well 2. You can then

proceed and use chemicals in Well 2 as normal.

5.3.2.3. Tips for Volumes

As with products, it is important that the volumes for each well are set to zero before“Switching” to the second well. This can be achieved by a combination of “Backloading” theremaining fluid volume from Well 1. On the “Switch” to Well 2 this volume will then be takeninto the well as a mud received volume.

Equally when you “Switch” into the second well, it is important that the pit volume of thesecond well should already be set to zero. This will allow you to receive into the well thevolume of fluid already present in the pits.

5.3.2.4. Tips for Reports

On the Reports, it is advised that you fully “Balance” the report on Well 1 before “Switching” toWell 2. We advise that you DO NOT “Create a New Report” on Well 1.

Leave Well 1 with a balanced report as far as volumes are concerned.

This will mean that when you return to Well 1 you will be ready to simply create the nextReport and receive all the Products and volumes into the well.

Average HGS

The default HGS setting is 100% Barite at 4.2 sg. If the HGS constituent in your mud is

different to this then you must enter the make up of the HGS in the input table for HGS.

Enter the details about the solids to be used as the weighting agent, HGS for the mud. Ifthere is more than one then the %’s of each one MUST add up to 100 %.

Barite – Enter the barite sg typically this is 4.2 but can be 4.25 for 100% pure barite.

Haematite – Enter the Haematite sg typically this is 5.2.

Calcium Carbonate – Enter the calcium carbonate sg if this is used as the primary weightingagent in a mud system. This is usually 2.6 sg. This is usually appliedin Drill in Fluids.

Ilmenite – Enter the Ilmenite sg typically 4.6 sg

Magnesium Tetraoxide – Enter the magnesium tetraoxide (Micromax) sg typically 4.8.

Other – Enter the sg of any other material that is used as a weighting agent.

For example

If the HGS in your mud contains a mixture of Barite and magnesium tetraoxide (Micromax)split 70:30 Barite to magnesium tetraoxide (Micromax) then you would enter the following.

LGS / Base Fluid / Glycol / Filtrate

Enter all the data about the LGS and other mud components that can affect the solidsanalysis from retort data.

LGS – Enter the default sg of the drill solids. Generally this is accepted at 2.6 sg but can varyfrom 2.3 to 2.7 sg.

Bentonite  – sg the normally accepted sg for bentonite is 2.6 and CEC (Cation exchangecapacity) equivalent, for normal API Bentonite this is usually around 60 – 70.

Drills solids  - sg the normally accepted sg for drill solids is 2.6 and CEC equivalent, ingeneral it is difficult to know this value but usually a value of between 10 and20 will be a good estimate.

The CEC values are used to calculate the equivalent concentration of Bentonite from the MBTtest. If the CEC value is known for the formation being drilled then enter this number against

the Drill solids CEC.

Clay CEC (meq/100 g) for pure clay minerals

Vermiculites 120 - 200Smectite 80 - 150Illite 10 - 40Chlorite 10 - 40Kaolinite 3 - 10

Base Fluid – Enter the base fluid sg. This applies to both AQ (WBM) and NAQ (OBM) fluids.

In AQ fluids if any lubricant is added then the sg needs to be known to allow correct solids

analysis.

In NAQ fluids the base fluid is one of the main constituents so it is vital that the correct sg forthis fluid is entered and used in the solids analysis.

Glycol – Enter the SG of any glycol that is used in the mud system.

If a combination of glycol’s are being used then an average SG needs to be calculated andentered under the Glycol SG entry.

Filtrate SG – Enter the sg of the brine phase of the mud system. This ONLY applies for NONchloride salts.

As there are no salt analysis tests for salts such as sodium bromide, potassium formate and

other non-chloride salts to allow for calculation of the salt content it is important to enter thebase brine density for the mud system being used.

For example

A drilling fluid system using sodium bromide as the salt is has a final density of 1.50 sg andthe sodium bromide content is 26% by weight. Looking up salt tables this sodium bromidesalt mixture will have a density of 1.30 sg so 1.30 should be entered in the filtrate SG inputbox.

NOTE: IT IS IMPORTANT ALL THIS INFORMATION IS ENTERED CORRECTLY AND INSG UNITS TO ENABLE THE PROGRAMME TO CALCULATE ALL THE FLUIDPROPERTIES.

Enter all the General Data about the mud check.

Enter the Cutting Size and SG.

Enter the Cutting Size in the appropriate units.

Enter the Cutting Density in SG.

These are used in the hydraulic calculations.

The Size and Density are taken into account in the calculation of Slip Velocity and Transportratio, so it is important to enter realistic numbers.

By default the Hydraulics check box is ticked. This means the mud check will be used in thehydraulics calculations. In the case where more than one check is ticked for hydraulics thelast one will be used in the calculations.

In this example the Salt type, Filtrate SG and Retort Water % are as follows.

Salt Sodium FormateFiltrate SG 1.20Retort Water % 93

By looking up salt tables for sodium formate, see below, for an 10 ppg brine the maximumRetort Water % can be is just over 83% (0.833 m

6.6. Pumps Details

The Pump Details is where you enter the details about the pump liner sizes and stroke ratesetc.

This information is then used in the hydraulics calculations. So it is important that all theinformation is entered correctly and in the correct units.

6.6.1. Pumps

The Make / Model will be carried forward from the Rig Setup information entered earlier in theprogramme. If no information appears please check that pump details were entered in theRig Setup page.

You must enter the correct :

Liner SizeStroke lengthStrokes per minute

Pump Efficiency

You must also indicate correctly whether the pump is dedicated to the hole or to the riser.Normally the pumps will be allocated to the hole but on deep water offshore wells pumps can

be dedicated to boosting the riser.

6.6.2. Pump Pressure, MWD, Motor Pressure Loss

Enter the pump pressure as indicated from rig equipment. Enter any known MWD or mudmotor pressure losses. This information is usually available from the mud loggers or loggingor MWD service provider.

If no information is available then a rule of thumb is to allow about 300 psi for a MWD and 250psi for a mud motor. These numbers are dependent on flowrates etc.

6.7.4. Riser

For offshore rigs there is the option to Include or Disregard the Riser.

Here we have a riser and it will be taken into account in all volume calculations

Disconnected Riser.

In this case we have a riser BUT we are stating that the riser has been Disconnected. In thiscase the volume of the riser WILL NOT be taken into account in the volume calculations.

Note the shaded colour of the Riser indicating it has been disconnected.

Riserless Drilling

This is a special case when offshore rigs drill without a riser being in place. In this case thecheck box for Riserless drilling allows us to control the layout of the hole diagram.

6.7.5. Close or Open System

Closed system or open system?

Definition

Closed System – The drilling fluid is circulated on a closed loop down the drill pipe back upthe annulus and returning to the pit system for re-circulation.

Open System – The drilling fluid is circulated down the drill string and up the annulus BUTNOT returned to the pit system.

You need to make the correct selection depending on your system setup.

If you have a traditional drilling system where the mud is returning to the pits ie CLOSEDsystem then leave the check box CHECKED.

If you have a case where the mud is returning to the surface BUT is being DIVERTED directlyto DISCHARGE ie OPEN system then you must UNCHECK the check box.

6.7.7. Points to Watch

1. Starting point for the Hole Geometry MUST be Zero or the Seabed.2. There must always be a continuous flow from one casing/liner size to the next ie

where one casing size ends the next one must overlap or start.3. A Riser MUST always start from 0. The next hole item MUST start from the bottom of

the Riser.4. The drill pipe components MUST be entered from the BOTTOM UP. ie start at the

BIT.

The programme allows for a schematic of the hole to be drawn.

In the schematic here, you can see that if we try and run this drill string into the hole there willbe a problem as the drill string OD exceeds the hole geometry ID when we reach the top ofthe liner. In this case the programme will produce an error when we try and calculate the holevolume data.

This is the error produced when we try and run a 9” DC into an 8.5” hole.

The Diagram is drawn BUT you can see the pipe is TOO big for the hole.

You can see the pipe TOO BIG for the Hole.

At this point you will NOT be able to SAVE the data.

You must Correct the Error before you can save the Geometry.

This is where the programme takes the information to calculate hydraulics and hole volumesso all the date must be correct.

The programme will try to identify any obvious mistakes BUT cannot check every possiblemistake.

6.11. Inventory and Volume Management

In this section you enter all the details about fluid and product movements, treatments andlosses.

This is a vital part of the mud report as it tracks all the volumes and products and forms a vitalpart of the overall cost and volume tracking for the well. If the information keyed in at the wellsite is not accurate then it has a dramatic effect on the end of well report. This is also a keyresponsibility of the mud engineer at the rig site to maintain a good and up to date inventoryof all the mud and products.

6.11.1. Main Inventory and Volume Management Criteria

The main purpose of this screen is to record all movements of products, and fluids andbalance these records so we maintain an accurate account at all times of volumes andproducts.

In order for the programme to maintain a record of Chemicals, Volumes and Concentration itoperates via a Stock Control and Volume Control system.

6.11.1.1. Proceed with Inventory and Volume Management

In order for the programme to maintain a track on inventory and volumes we must generatean inventory and volume. The programme can then compare this volume against thevolumes entered by the user.

So far on the chemicals all we have entered are the prices of the various chemicals.

We must now receive some chemicals into the well inventory, just like receiving chemicals onthe rig site.

In order to do this we use the “Receive / Return Stock” menu button. See Receive / Return

Stock

Once products have been entered into the well inventory then we can proceed and generateour fluid volume.

The first way to generate volume is to use Chemicals in one of the pit systems.

This will bring up the current Well Chemical list.

As you can see the Quantity for all chemicals is Zero. So we CANNOT use any chemicals justyet.

Before any chemicals can be processed you MUST enter the Chemicals into your WellInventory and Price list. See Add Products to Price List and then Receive / Return Products

A second way to generate volume is to receive whole mud. In order to do this we use the“Mud Added” input. See Additions / Losses.

6.11.11. Additions / Losses

All mud Additions and Losses are entered and recorded in this screen.

The final allocation of losses for the day should be entered at the end of the day to make theReconciled Report Volumes ZERO.

6.11.11.1. Additions

Pit System – the type of pit, either Active, Reserve or Other

Water - Enter the volume of Water added to the various pit systems.

Transfers in Pit - Enter the volumes of mud transferred from one pit system to another pitsystem.

Mud Added - Enter the volume of any Mud Added to any pit system. THIS REFERS TO

MUD RECEIVED FROM OUT WITH THE RIG. Mud Return - Enter any volumes of mud returned to the LMP or other offsite storage.

Here we see a Product volume of 73.29 bbls has been added to the Active Pit.

Now we add the Water to the Active pit system.

Here we add 880 bbls of Water to the Active System.

Now looking at the Total Current Volume table we see the following.

We add 73 + 880 = 953 bbls of volume.

Today's Volume = 312.2 bbls which is the Hole Volume (112) + 200 in the pits

Reconciled Volume = 953 - 312 = 641 bbls

6.11.11.2. Losses

Shaker, SCE, Discharge, Evaporation etc – the Loss Description to which the loss is beingattributed.

IMPORTANT: BEFORE ASSIGNING ANY LOSSES CHECK WITH OPERATORCONTRACTOR AND MUD LOGGERS TO MAKE SURE ALL LOSSES AREPROPERLY ASSIGNED BY EVERY ONE ON THE RIG.

DO NOT JUST ENTER, LOST DOWNHOLE (SEEPAGE) WITH OUT AGREEING BEFOREHAND.

Identify from which pit system the loss has occurred, generally this will be the Active pit oractive system. This programme combines all pits denoted as Active into one volume.

For Example if the losses for the day are

1. Shakers 7 bbl2. Centrifuge 3 bbl

3. Seepage 2 bbl

And all losses are from the Active system then the required entry into the loss table is shownbelow.

Click “Save” button.

6.11.12. Transfer / Return

Any Mud movement from Pit system to Pit system or Received/Returned must be recorded inthe Transfer and Mud Added/Return columns.

6.11.12.1. Transfer from Reserve to Active.

Here we enter 100 bbls in the Active ROW under the Reserve column header.

NOTE: The Row header is equivalent to the Receiving pit system.

6.11.12.2. Mud Added

Here we Add or Receive 200 bbls of mud from an outside location. Typically this would bemud received from the LMP.

6.11.12.3. Mud Returned

Here we are Returning 300 bbls of mud from the Active pit system. Typically this would bemud sent away from the rig at the end of the interval or well.

Click “Save” button.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN GOOD RECORDS OF ALL PIT MOVEMENTS EITHERBETWEEN PITS OR BETWEEN THE RIG AND LMP. AGAIN THIS ALL FORMS PART OFMAINTAINING ACCURATE PRODUCT CONCENTRATIONS.

6.11.13. Balance Volumes

At the end of the day it is important to balance the volumes in the mud report. The computerwill calculate a new volume based on all the, Chemical Additions, Mud Added/Returned,Losses etc and compare this to the Current Volume of all the Pits and the Hole Volume asentered by the mud engineer.

The RED cells on the Additions / Losses Editor window need to be ZERO before a report canbe considered BALANCED.

In this case the Active Volume difference is 629 bbls and Reserve/Other Volume difference is0 bbls. This volume discrepancy needs to be adjusted to zero before closing and printing thefinal report.

The two main areas to achieve this is to

1. Check Pit Volumes and Hole Geometry and adjust if necessary2. Re-examine the Additions and Losses and adjust if necessary.

6.11.13.1. End Volume Checking

If you try and enter an End volume for a pit that is above its capacity the programme will warnof the error and will not allow the setting of this value and it will reset to the previous value.

6.11.16. Receive Whole Mud Charge Cost

Another scenario for whole mud is that we need to receive whole mud volume and charge thecost of the mud.

Example

Receive 100 bbls of mud from LMP and the cost is to be charged at $65.00 per bbl.

In this case we need to do 3 things.

1. Create a chemical name for the Whole Mud2. Receive the Whole Mud Volume (enter concentration in concentration table)3. Charge the Volume used to get the cost for the mud.

1. Create a Custom Chemical name for the Whole Mud.

Go to the Chemical Price List and select

Add Chemical from the File menu.

How do I balance a Report?

Answer:

First You must first enter the hole geometry to create a hole volume.

Second You MUST enter the Current End Volume in the Pits Volume Table.

Third By a combination of Chemical Treatment (mixing mud), Transferring Volumesand allocating Losses you must balance the volume of fluid mixed andreceived with the actual volume in the hole and pits.

How do I generate a mud volume?

Answer:

You can generate a mud volume one of three ways

1. Use a Chemical in the Inventory Cost Summary window2. Add Water in the Additions / Losses window3. Receive Whole Mud into the pits in the Additions / Losses window.

Using a Chemical is equivalent to mixing mud in the pits and generating a volume of mudready to use. This is also how any additions of products are carried out.

Receive Whole Mud – Mud Added this is equivalent to receiving ready mixed mud from theLMP or other source.

How do I receive products into the well inventory?

Answer:

You use the Receive / Backload Products to enter product movement via a “Ticket” system.

All products received or present on a rig site must be “Received” via a Receive ticket.

All products sent from the rig site must be accounted for in a “Backload” ticket.

Answer:

If there are no details about the products used to make the mud then you must find out fromthe LMP or your co-ordinator what was in the mud mix. If this is not readily available then youmust make your best guess as to the makeup of the mud.
