— Faculty —Margaret Schaefer, J.D., is the centralized intake managing attorney at Legal Aid of Nebraska. She has managed the ElderAccessLine® since 2005 providing legal advice and assistance directly to callers and through the assistance of paralegals. She advises people regularly on their advance directives and refers cases to the Volunteer Lawyers’ Project. She has a law degree from Hastings Law College in California.

Rebecca Wester, M.D. has been teaching geriatrics at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and caring for seniors in Omaha and surrounding communities since 2007. Through her extensive expertise as a house calls physician, Dr. Wester was the creative force behind the Methodist Physicians Clinic house calls program featured in the Omaha World-Herald (July 2017). Dr. Wester sees patients at HOMAHA Senior Care in her weekly rounds at skilled nursing, assisted living and memory care facilities. Her prior experience includes serving in the U.S. Air force at Offutt Air Force Base and Dyess Air Force Base in Texas. She is board-certified in family medicine, geriatrics, and hospice/palliative medicine and is a certified medical director.

Jim Hegarty has been with the Better Business Bureau for the past 24 years. Prior to his appointment as BBB president & CEO in 2006, he was the BBB’s regional marketing director. During his tenure, the organization has evolved from what was once known as the Omaha Better Business Bureau, supported by 600 business members, to a highly regarded regional bureau with offices in multiple states and nearly 10,000 business members. He also serves as board chair of the International Association of Better Business Bureaus and on a number of national task forces. Prior to joining BBB, Mr. Hegarty spent ten years with Union Pacific Railroad and also served as an executive director in the non-profit sector. Lori Lee, J.D., received a BS in public administration from Wayne State College in 1983 and a law degree from the University of Nebraska in 1986. She has been with Legal Aid of Nebraska her entire legal career. Ms. Lee serves as a legal services provider for the Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging under Title IIIB of the Older Americans Act.

Jonathan Seagrass, J.D., is an attorney at the Legal Aid of Nebraska local office in Norfolk and graduated from Creighton University School of Law in 2009. He also has a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University and serves as a legal services provider under a contract with the Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging conducting legal outreach, especially on Native American reservations.

Dennis Loose currently serves as Executive Director of the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging located in Omaha, Nebraska. He has considerable experience in human services at the state and local levels. After receiving a BS degree in Education he worked in Developmental Disability services in the panhandle of Nebraska in various capacities. In 1978 he became the Executive Director of South Central Nebraska Area Agency on Aging located in Kearney, Nebraska and served in that position until 1991 when he was appointed Deputy Director of the Nebraska Department on Aging. In 1994 Dennis was appointed Director of the Department on Aging. In 1996 the Governor appointed Dennis as Director of Nebraska’s four State Veterans Homes he held that position along with the appointment in 1997 as Chief Deputy Director of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. In 2007 he left state government and joined a Management Consulting firm, Quality Governmental Service, LLC, which specializes in management and consulting with management of state and local governmental units. It was through that firm that in 2010 he connected with the opportunity to serve as the Executive Director of the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging.

Cindy Koenig-Warnke investigates financial crimes against seniors and vulnerable adults. Ms. Warnke has attended training in the area of Alzheimer’s, vulnerable adult abuse related to physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and financial exploitation to nurses, social workers and other professionals who work with the aging population. She received her graduate certificate in gerontology from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in December 2013 and her master’s in gerontology in 2017.

Dr. Ally Dering-Anderson, BA, PharmD, RP, is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Science at the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy. She coordinates and teaches the law & ethics classes, the OTC & self-care products course, the point-of-care testing course, and the immunization course. She is also the preceptor for a public policy experiential rotation for senior-level pharmacy students. A pharmacist immunization advocate, Dr. Dering-Anderson has given more than 40,000 immunizations during her career. Dr. Dering-Anderson was the 2015 Teacher of the Year for the College of Pharmacy and was named a fellow in APhA in 2017. Dr. Dering-Anderson is the 2019 president of the Nebraska Pharmacists Association. Dr. Dering-Anderson is a graduate of Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy. She has been a licensed and practicing pharmacist in Nebraska and Iowa for over 30 years. She served as the assistant executive director of the Nebraska Pharmacists Association for 13 years and worked the “vampire shift” for Walgreens. Dr. Dering-Anderson has spoken nationally and internationally on pharmacy topics.

Mary Wilson, J.D., is an attorney-at-law. She serves as the Older Americans’ Act attorney for Aging Partners in Lincoln. Ms. Wilson received her B.A. degree in education from Wayne State College and her J.D. degree from Creighton University School of Law. Ms. Wilson is a frequent lecturer to various groups on elder law issues such as advance directives, probate, and guardianship and represents clients in trials related to financial exploitation, undue influence and other elder law areas.

Kathy Greenlee, J.D., served for seven years as the assistant secretary for aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. During her tenure, Ms. Greenlee provided national leadership on the realities and prevalence of elder abuse. Her work included the development of a home for Adult Protective Service programs at the Administration on Aging. Since leaving Washington D.C., she has continued her work on elder abuse prevention and response at the national and regional levels. Ms. Greenlee recently launched a consulting venture, Greenlee Global LLC. Her goal is to engage regional and national partners to advance reforms aimed at improving people’s lives, with a focus on health, independence and security. Prior to going to Washington, D.C., she served for 18 years in Kansas state government, including her final position as Kansas secretary of aging. During her years of public service, Ms. Greenlee developed expertise in the areas of aging, long-term care, disability, elder abuse, health care and community services innovation and LGBT health. She serves on several national boards and continues to work on improving the lives of older adults and persons with disabilities. Ms. Greenlee is a University of Kansas graduate, having received a B.S. in business administration and a J.D. from the School of Law.
