Training Course Information

Courses are typically led by a single instructor using a lecture and discussion format. Some classes utilize an ongoing scenario format providing students with work-through case studies and/or reference material. Courses are continuously updated and revised for technical accuracy and to provide the most meaningful, practical and useful content. Basic Level Courses - Cover fundamental principles and skills essential for compliance to OSHA, and designed to optimize safety practices at you facility. This level is for participants with limited or no exposure to the subjects. These courses are intended to teach defensive operations tactics, and are not intended to prepare the student for offensive mitigation and clean-up activities. Upon completion of the course a comprehensive exam covering all lectured topics will be conducted. After successfully passing the exam, a formal Certificate of Training is awarded. All basic level courses can be held at either your site or ours. Advanced Level Courses – Courses carry the participant to the highest level of training in that category. Advanced level courses are designed to train the employee to respond to an emergency situation and take offensive actions. These actions include mitigation of a spill, leak, or accident, and assistance with the clean-up process post incident. Advanced level courses require successful completion of a basic level course prior to enrollment. Courses focus on the development of in-depth knowledge, a variety of skills, and a broader range of applications. A comprehensive examination is given and Certificate of Training is awarded upon successful completion of the course. Advanced level courses are only available for delivery at our site.

Location: CFR Training Facility. 7222 Commerce Circle, Cheyenne, WY Registration Fees: Fees are listed with each course. Registration fees include the cost of class materials, and facility

fees. The registration fees do not include travel or per diem expenses for participants. Fees and schedules are subject to change without notice. The full class fee is payable at time of registration, unless other arrangements have been made.

Once registration is complete, any reduction of participant numbers will not result in a refund. Participants may be added

to the class roster up to ten (10) business days prior to the course start date. Full registration fees for late registration students will include a $30.00 late fee, and full payment is due prior to the course start date. Cancellation of a course due

to inclement weather, or an act of God will result in rescheduling of the course without penalty. Cancellations: May be made up ten (10) business days prior to course start date. A full refund minus a $30.00

cancellation fee will be issued no later than ten (10) business days after cancellation notice is received.

“Your-Site” Course Delivery

Requirements: Client must provide a clean temperature controlled classroom environment with adequate seating for the

number of participants, and instructors. Restroom access for participants and instructors is required. Client will need to

provide their own equipment.

Location: Client choice

Registration Fees: Fees are listed with each course. Registration fees include the cost of class materials, and instructor

travel. Clients within a twenty (20) mile radius of Cheyenne will not be charged for travel. Fees and schedules are subject

to change without notice. The full class fee is payable at time of registration, unless other arrangements have been made.

Hazardous Materials Training – Industry

HAZWOPER First Responder Awareness (FRA) Level

This course is designed for all employees who respond to a hazardous materials emergency. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 indicates that all employees who respond to a hazardous materials emergency must receive training based on their level of activities at the incident. Awareness level responders recognize the presence of hazardous materials, isolate the scene and call for appropriate assistance. They do not participate in actual offensive or cleanup activities. Awareness Level training is for responders who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous materials release, and will initiate a response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release.

HAZWOPER First Responder Operations (FRO) Level

This course is designed for all employees who respond to a hazardous materials emergency. As per OSHA guidelines, these people must receive training based on their level of activities at the incident. This particular course is designed for those who are likely to respond to a hazardous materials emergency for the purpose of protecting people, property, or the environment from the effects of the release. Operations Level personnel take a defensive posture on an incident, and can provide decontamination of victims.

40hr HAZWOPER Hazardous Materials Technician Level

This course is specifically designed for workers who are involved in clean-up operations, voluntary clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal, or treatment of hazardous substances or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. Hazardous Materials Technicians provide offensive actions during an incident. Plugging and patching of leaks, damming, diking, and diverting spills, air monitoring, and other skills are taught in this course.

Please note that an additional 3 days of hands on training is required for the 40 hour HAZWOPER course. The Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) applies to the five distinct groups of employers and their employees.

Clean-up operations involving hazardous substances - that are conducted at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.

Corrective actions involving clean-up operations at sites covered by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976.

Voluntary clean-up operations at sites recognized by federal, state, local, or other governmental body as uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.

Operations involving hazardous wastes that are conducted at treatment, storage, and disposal facilities.

Emergency response operations for releases of, or substantial threats of releases of, hazardous substances regardless of the location of the hazard.

Hazardous Materials Technicians provide offensive actions during an incident. 8 Hour HAZWOPER Annual Refresher Course

This course meets the requirements in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for eight hours of annual refresher training for workers at hazardous waste sites. This course is designed for general site workers who remove hazardous

waste or who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards.

Hospital First Receiver

This course meets the requirements for JCAHO – Hospital First Receiver, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for Awareness, and Operations Level training for workers at a hospital. This course is designed for hospital site

workers who could potentially come into contact with patients who have been exposed to hazardous materials.

First Receivers typically include personnel in the following roles: clinicians and other hospital staff who have a role in receiving and treating contaminated victims (e.g., triage, decontamination, medical treatment, and security) and those whose roles support these functions (e.g., set up and patient tracking). First Responder Operations Level training is required for employees (including security staff) who have a role in the Hospital Decontamination Zone, as well as the hospital's contamination cleanup crew. First Responder Awareness Level training is required for ED clerks and ED triage staff who might identify unannounced contaminated victims, then notify the proper authority), and security staff working outside the Hospital Decontamination Zone.

Hazardous Materials Training – First Responder

NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness Level This course meets the requirements of NFPA 472, Standard on Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents, 2008 edition; and OSHA 1910.120. The Hazardous Materials Awareness course is designed for those emergency response personnel (fire, police, EMS, and others) who may be first on the scene of a hazardous materials emergency. Training Objectives

When dispatched to the scene of an incident, emergency response personnel may not be aware that the situation involves hazardous materials. As a result, emergency medical services personnel should always be alert to the possibility that they may be dealing with a chemically contaminated individual. This

course provides instruction in the recognition of hazardous materials incidents, and the precautions necessary

to keep EMS personnel safe.

Certain combinations of patient symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, burning eyes or skin, or cyanosis should also suggest to the EMS staff the presence of hazardous materials. We will discuss the six principle clues to hazardous materials incidents:

1. Occupancy and Location. 2. Container Shape. 3. Markings/Colors on highway tankers and railcars. 4. Placards/Labels. 5. Shipping Papers. 6. Senses.

We will also discuss the signs and symptoms of exposure to some of the most commonly transported chemicals.



Advanced Level Sampling and Evidence Collection for Hazardous Materials Technician Level

Meets requirements of NFPA 472, Standard on Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents, 2008 edition. This course further develops the skills already learned in Technician Level, and provides training in the 9-step sample and evidence collection method used by FBI hazmat teams through specialized skills and equipment use.

CBRNE Hazmat Technician (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives)

Meets requirements of NFPA 472, Standard on Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/WMD Incidents, 2008 edition. This course develops the skills already learned in Technician level, and provides advanced training in the use of monitoring equipment through specialized skills and equipment use. This course provides in-depth information on responding to a WMD terrorist event.


Topics Covered

Introduction. Outlines the content and goals of this course and provides an overview of the different knowledge,

skills, challenges, and consequences associated with response to a CBRN incident.

Threat of CBRN terrorism. Addresses the potential danger posed by terrorists who have access to CBRN material.

Threat chemicals. Presents technical information about selected chemicals that a terrorist might employ.

Threat chemical detection and identification. Provides instruction about the operation of selected instruments of

chemical detection and identification equipment, and the employment of simulants in training. A hands-on practical

exercise follows the lecture.

Biological agents. Presents technical information about selected biological agents that a terrorist might employ.

Biological agent detection and identification. Mirrors the chemical detection and identification module. It is also

followed by a hands-on practical exercise.

Radiological/nuclear materials. Presents technical information about radiological or nuclear materials that a terrorist

might employ.

Radiation/nuclear material detection and identification. Includes a lecture and exercise similar to the chemical

and biological detection modules.

Sampling procedures. Outlines the general principles, safety precautions, and operational procedures for collecting

and documenting samples of CBRN materials. A hands-on exercise follows the lecture.

Recognizing dissemination devices. Discusses the characteristics of various types of devices a terrorist might

employ during a CBRN incident.

Downwind hazard analysis. Addresses the purpose, preparation, and applications of downwind hazard prediction

models.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Describes different types of equipment, and presents illustrative scenarios

asking students to choose the correct PPE.

Decontamination procedures. Addresses the types of decontamination, which decontaminants are best for specific

chemical agents, the decontaminants to be used on victims and those only for use on equipment, and the risks

associated with decontamination.

Mitigation. Discusses methods and techniques for minimizing the impact of CBRN materials.

Responder actions. Focuses on the offensive actions Technician Level responders should execute to minimize
