Training is value for money

The two most important goals for all training are to generate value for the customer and develop skills and knowledge for the employees.

Training is valueThis catalogue gives you an overview of the training options which will help you to strengthen the professional competences at your plant and make sure that plant personnel are fully updated with the latest automation technology and knowhow. The overall goal for all our courses is: - a reduced down-time- an improved troubleshooting and maintenance- an optimized production and - an increased staff retention.

What do we cover? Our courses are divided into three main areas: ECS courses, which are primarily relevant for control room personnel, QCX courses, which are primarily relevant for laboratory personnel and equipment courses, which target personnel taking care of IT, sampling and laboratory equipment. In addition to these courses, we offer specially designed training tailored to meet special requirements.

Your goal is our goalWhy are our courses so highly appreciated? One of our secrets is that we always start analyzing what are best daily, weekly, monthly and yearly practices when using our products. We explore what is "need to know" and what is "nice to know". When we know how our products can be used in the most professional way, we start designing the course.

Effective TrainingWe know it can be difficult being short of good employees while they upgrade their qualifications. That is why we put an effort into conducting effective training. To achieve this target, we acknowledge the complexity of the human mind and design our courses with the scientific knowledge of effective learning.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our training sessions.

On behalf of FLSmidth,

Jens Aaslyng DallGlobal Product Line Manager

6 Training in FLSmidth

Why participate in training?Well planned and conducted training ensures • a continuously optimized production• long lifetime of the automation products• high availability of the automation products and• retention of plant personnel

Training at FLSmidthFLSmidth Automation provides you with professional training based on our experience in the design, delivery and commis-sioning of hundreds of automation systems worldwide. Our training sessions are conducted by well trained and experienced FLSmidth personnel with the greatest technical knowledge.

Within the automation courses, FLSmidth offers tailor-made training sessions and Scheduled Open Courses.

Open courses can be booked individually and directly via our website or through our sales offices. The schedules for the Open Courses are presented on our website.

Training changes during the product lifecycleNew technology requires new skills. To help you get the full value out of your new automation products, we will be pleased to set up a training plan which takes all your specific needs into consideration.

During commissioning, we will often introduce our products to the plant personnel.

The next step in the skills development will be our standard courses which are presented in this catalogue. They are designed to be merged into different training sessions to fulfil your specific needs, regardless of whether you have bought a completely new plant or made a small upgrade. If your plant has a specific need which isn't covered by a standard course, we can set up a customized training programme.

Further training as In-depth training, Brush-Up training and Training of new staff can be done as standard training or as customized training. We will be pleased to guide you from case to case.

SeminarsWhile our training courses cover specific applications and in-depth knowledge of a specific subject, the seminars are events with a broader perspective. These international seminars are recognized events in the industry.

The events offer managers and specialists from around the world the opportunity to meet colleagues, exchange ideas and expand their knowledge. Hence it will be possible to establish a valuable network of contacts with the participants.

All seminars are conducted by experienced FLSmidth personnel and are backed by the vast knowledge of the entire FLSmidth organization.

Development of skillsSkills are developed through steps, and each step requires different types of training. New users require clear guidance and overview. Experienced users need knowledge, explanations, general guidelines, tools and examples of when and how to deviate from the rules. Experts require knowledge, perspectives, suggestions, cooperation and adjustable tools. Our courses and customized training programmes are designed to bring employees effectively up through the steps.

Daily Use Courses Everyone – managers, technicians, operators and automation system engineers – can gain valuable knowledge from participating in these courses.

The courses focus on basic overviews of the systems and how to use them. Since our applications have many functions and features, it can be difficult and time consuming to gain overview and confidence in using the systems. The courses will provide overview, tools and helpful procedures which are required for using the applications effectively in the daily work. The training objectives are at level 3 (according to the European Qualification Framework).

Prior experience of the systems is not required for participating in the Daily Use Courses.

Maintenance Courses Maintenance Courses are designed for engineers who will maintain the automation systems or engineers who will have the technical dialogue with FLmidth A/S about technical service.

The course topics are selected for supporting automation system engineers to get detailed overviews of the systems and knowledge of how to maintain and customize them.

The courses will include presentations, practical experience with the systems, guidelines and dialogues. The courses include practical experience with maintenance of the systems and will build up a thorough knowledge of the system. The training objectives are at level 3 (according to the European Qualification Framework).

The Maintenance Courses build upon the Daily Use Courses. Topics and features explained in the Daily Use courses will not be repeated at these courses. The Maintenance Courses are tailored for engineers with general experience of the course topics.

Customized Training If we do not provide standard courses within a specific area or at a specific level, a customized training programme can be organized. The training can be anything from guidance, classroom training to workshop. The training objective will be at level 2, 3 or 4 (according to the European Qualification Framework) depending upon the required skills, the skills level of the participants and the time available.

For high level training, Customized Training can be organized as a tailored high level workshop. A high level workshop normally focuses on a plant-specific issue or project. The issue will be solved through cooperation, hands-on activities and use of relevant documents, tools and discussions.

The workshop will include a special focus on the skills development. To get the most out of the high level workshop, the participants must have knowledge similar to any comparable Maintenance Courses and plant experience within the area. The training objectives are at level 4 (according to the European Qualification Framework).

The European Qualification Framework is presented at page 62-63.

Reference Framework

The European Qualification Framework, EQF, is a reference framework, which are designed by EU to compare qualification levels in different education and training systems. The core of the EQF concerns eight reference levels describe what a learner knows, understand and is able to do – 'learning outcomes'. By using the levels as part of our training design, the progress of skills becomes very clear. The definition of the eight levels is presented on next page.

Progress in the skills an developmentBasic instruction or training which often is included in the commissioning will normally be at level 1 or 2.

Our Standard Courses which are presented in this catalogue has learning objectives at level 3.

Customized Training is tailored to a specific target group and the learning objectives can be at level 2, 3 or 4.
