Government funding for students aged 24+ at level 3 or 4 is now provided through the 24+ Advanced Learning Loans. Therefore, there are separate fees for these courses which are usually much higher than the fees quoted to those aged under 24. This is because the loan is for the full value of the training rather than a yearly contribution to the costs.

Employer Endorsement Scheme The Employer Endorsement Scheme, which launched in 2009, is a unique scheme developed by the College to forge closer links between the College and industry partners. Members of the scheme, which is free to join, have access to a range of benefits allowing them to:

Our Employer Advisory Boards exist to provide a formal platform for businesses to help inform future curriculum development. Aligned to the priority growth sectors of the City, Employer Advisory Boards offer industry professionals the opportunity to work with the College, sharing information and best practice. Board members are able to support, shape and help form future curriculum, which is vital in ensuring we are offering the training required by industry. 24+ Advanced Learning Loans The government has introduced a new ‘24+ Advanced Learning Loan’ system that enables those aged 24 and over to apply for a loan to cover course fees. Loans are available for those studying level 3 or 4 courses, including Qualifications Credit Framework certificates and diplomas (previously known as NVQs), Access to Higher Education, A levels and advanced and higher level Apprenticeships.

To qualify for an Advanced Learning Loan you must:

• be aged 24 and over at the start of your course

• be resident in the UK, and have been so for the last three years

• have not previously received a loan to do the same course at the same level

• be studying a course at level 3 or 4.

Important facts to note:• loans will only cover the up-front course costs -

the course fees

• loans are not means tested or subject to credit checks

• loans will be paid directly to the training provider

• individuals can apply for up to four loans as long as the criteria stated above is met

• repayments will only begin after 1 April 2016, even if the course ended before this date, and if an individual is earning over £21,000

• if an individual takes out a loan to cover the fees for an Access course and then progresses to complete a higher education course, they won’t have to repay the remaining loan for the Access course

• repayments will take place even if an individual does not complete the course.

For advanced and higher level Apprenticeships, individuals can only apply for a loan covering 50% of the course fee, as the employer is expected to share the cost. For any other level 3 or level 4 courses, individuals can choose to fund this partly by a loan.

Advice for employers:• employers can make voluntary payments for part

or all of the loan on behalf of their employee

• employers are advised to seek independent financial advice on tax consequences of repaying loans.

Our range of one day workshops have been designed to support businesses in a cost-effective way. Focusing on business critical areas such as team leading, performance management, change management and communication, our workshops really deliver!

Workshops provide delegates with a full day’s training, which is professionally delivered and focused on achieving clear outcomes for those attending. All learning materials and lunch are included.

Our range of workshops can be tailored to meet specific business needs and we can provide dates and times around those advertised in this guide

should you wish to book a session for your team (minimum/maximum 12 delegates). We can offer a special discount for businesses looking to take a whole session and are able, in the majority of cases, to deliver onsite at your premises should you require this option.

The College is one of the largest partner colleges with Plymouth University and the majority of our higher education students progress onto courses at the University.

Foundation Degrees Foundation degrees are carefully designed and developed in collaboration with employers and provide an opportunity to combine academic study with the skills and attributes needed in the workplace. Many foundation degrees can be studied on a part-time basis and offer cost-effective training solutions and clear progression routes, often to an honours degree through Plymouth University.

What employers can expect from us• Accurate and timely information regarding

courses, funding changes and other services via our website, brochures and other materials.

• Course information will include costs, content, assessment methods, frequency, timing, duration and entry requirements.

• The College will offer impartial information, advice and guidance to employers.

• An Employer Gateway, comprising a dedicated team, who will deal with all queries within two working days of initial contact.
