Extreme Design for Your Safety. Using FEM (Finite Element Method) Computer-Design for Sturdy Chassis.

It all begins with the idea. During the de-velopment, CAD programs in combination with the Finite Element -Method determine whether the idea is feasible. Thus, our engineers simulate extreme influences on the computer for new vehicle compo-nents. Consequently, they are designed to be so robust and weight-optimized that they withstand comprehensive tests in the Cargobull Validation Center (CVC) and subsequently can conquer the market.

- High-strength steel profiles: This forms the foundation of the Schmitz Cargobull container chassis.

- Predicted during development: The container chassis are manufactured out of open steel profiles without enclosed hollow spaces so that corrosion is not possible.

Thoroughly Tested – for a Trouble-free Trailer Life. The Cargobull Validation Center – Tested for a Trailer Lifetime Before the First Customer.

A trailer proves its true durability once it is on the road. But we choose not to wait that long. At our Cargobull Validation Center (CVC) we carry out comprehensive testing on components, vehicles and entire trains. We have collected data from a broad range of common driving situations and use this on our test benches. This enables us to create extreme situations “at the press of a button”. Not just once, but as often as necessary. As a result, we simulate an entire trailer lifetime over the course of only a few weeks. The goal is to create modular components and vehicles which

never deliver unpleasant surprises but simply do exactly what you have pur- chased them to do – Contribute to your company’s financial success. - Only mature and robust vehicles

Operated at 210 bar, in the road simulator the hydropulsers attain impact forces of up to 40g, in order to simulate the stresses on fully loaded vehicles. At the Cargobull Validation Center, both components and entire vehicles are subjected to extensive testing covering 1,000,000 km in six weeks in the server-hydraulic road simulator to ensure trouble-free daily usage. So that you can be certain that we always develop and produce technically mature and robust vehicles.

At our Cargobull Validation Center we thoroughly test every development to ensure that you always receive a powerful vehicle.

The tests carried out at the CVC are always checked against real-life tests such as the “Elk test” for driving stability.

Built-In Safety. Safety on the Road: Sliding or Dynamic ALP (Axle Load Program).

A minimum load equivalent to 25% of the vehicle’s weight on the tractor-unit drive axle is not only an EU regulation but also improves trailer road handling. The Schmitz Cargobull sliding bogie saves time and reduces costs when transporting 20’ containers weighing up to 30 t. The wheelbase is semi-automatically reduced for loading to ensure that the tail end of the container sits flush with the ramp. When driving, the wheelbase increases again, positioning the container in the middle and optimally distributing the axle loads.

The dynamic Axle Load Program (ALP)* serves a similar function when transport-ing 20’ containers on the gooseneck chassis with rear extension (S.CF EURO, MX, LX). Specifically increasing the bellows pressure in the first chassis axle moves the load’s centre of gravity. This significantly improves the fifth wheel load.

The EU Directive 96/53/EC requires a drive axle loading of at least 25 % of the vehicle weight for international transport using semitrailers. Compli-ance with this directive is subject to increasing scrutiny. Depending on the model, the sliding bogie provides two or three selectable axle spacings in order to comply with the legal regula-tions independent of the weight of the container.

The S.CF 45’ container chassis with SLIDING BOGIE adapts to transport requirements for sea containers ranging from 20’ to 45’, and consistently complies with the EU Directive 96/53 EN for long-distance transport, in particular.

The SLIDING BOGIE positions 20’ sea containers weighing up to 30 t centrally while driving, and flush with the ramp during loading and unloading.

Three selectable axle spacings increase driving safety and enable compliance with the legal regulations for fifth wheel load on the tractor’s drive axle.

The simplified handling of the S.CF 40’with SLIDING BOGIE for containers up to 40’ is ideal for the rental business. This simplified handling with only two selectable axle spacings prevents opera-tor errors and shortens the adjustment times when handling 20’ containers. Perfect Sea Container Handling. S.CF 40’/45’ SLIDING BOGIE for Simple Handling and Loading.

The wheelbase of the S.CF 45’ SLIDING BOGIE has three different settings. 2 x 20’, 30’, 40’ and 45’ containers are transported using the middle or long wheelbase. Heavy 20’ containers are transported with the cor-rect trailer load using the middle wheelbase and positioned flush to the ramp with the short wheelbase.

The driver adjusts the frame using the trac-tor. All of the necessary working steps including raising the vehicle, braking and the reset-to-ride function are carried out auto-matically and without any errors.

The wheelbase of the S.CF 45’ SLIDING BOGIE is easy to adjust. Select the wheel-base and push the container frame. The semi-automatic system manages the braking, lifting and unlocking the chassis and also locks the frame after displace-ment. It then lowers it to the driving height and releases the brakes.

The driver simply selects the wheelbase on the control console. Schmitz Cargobull has auto-mated the subsequent procedures to save time.

When transporting heavy 20’ containers, extending the wheelbase from 5,859 mm to 7,7580 mm ensures the correct fifth wheel load of at least 25% of the total vehicle weight.

The KLAPP LOCK attaches the front container for 2 x 20’ loading and the STEP LOCK® secures standard containers with and without a tunnel on the rear extension. Standard equipment of the S.CF EURO includes an extendable underride guard.

The STRAIGHT chassis as a heavy-duty design is suitable for all common container types from 20’ to 45’. Given their versatility, the trailers are in constant use, subjecting the materials to constant wear and tear. However, these requirements were taken into account during development stage. They were then implemented as highly durable, reliable designs with adequate performance reserves.

- The HD chassis can also be used to transport 45’ high-cube containers (not in countries with a maximum vehicle height of 4.0 m).

- Two king pin positions enable operation behind fifth wheel traction units with two or three axles for the HD variants.

- The rear platform can be used when 20’ containers are positioned centrally. It is accessible and the platform is approved for stacker axle loads up to 5.3 t.

Do you primarily transport 40’ and 45’ con-tainers? Our GOOSENECK Light chassis with diagonal support struts perfectly fulfils your requirements. With a lower unladen weight, you benefit from additional pay-load, low fuel consumption and an out-standing price/performance ratio with our Light chassis.

- Additional fittings: S.CF 40’ FX LIGHT and S.CF 45’ EURO LIGHT can both be prepared for transporting containers without a tunnel or on 2 x 20’ containers.

If your usage profile focuses on a high payload, simple handling without adjust-ment options, low maintenance overheads and a long service life, then the 40’/45’ and 20’ models of the STRAIGHT LIGHT chassis made of welded, fine-grain steel are the best option. Both models are dis-tinguished by a high level of driving safety thanks to the brand-name running gear with ROTOS® DriveTechnology, EBS and RSP. Simply Secure. User-Friendly Locks for Greater Working Safety.

Time pressure must not lead to mistakes. Thus, container locks from Schmitz Cargo-bull are simple and safe to operate. In addi-tion to the standard TWIST LOCK with anti-twist device, this also applies to the locking positions of the patented MULTI LOCK® system in the front extension; for the KLAPP LOCK in the middle for locking the front 20’ container; and for the patented STEP LOCK® system which compensates for the height of 40’/45’ containers without a tunnel. All-in-all convincing user safety.

The patented MULTI LOCK® can be adapted with little effort at the front extension for a tunnel container and a container without a tunnel.

The STEP LOCK® system on the rear extension for 40’ and 45’ containers is robust and durable.

Extensions for safely transporting 45’ con-tainers expand your container chassis’ range of usage options. Our solid, easy-to-use designs enable rapid loading even under the toughest operating conditions. The front extension with MULTI LOCK® for transporting 45’ containers is mechanically extended rapidly and safely. The rear extension is moved pneumatically. The central tube design improves operating safety.

The rear extension with a manually lowered underride guard pneumatically moves to the selected position of the container.

The front extension for 45’ containers is spring-mounted on roller bearings, provi-ding simple, safe and rapid handling.

- Rear extensions are positioned pneuma-tically. Pneumatic locking is also available as an option.

- The mechanical front extension is spring-mounted on roller bearings and thus is very easy to move.

- The electrical and pneumatic connec-tions are well-protected inside the cross beam of the front extension. The supply lines are protected in an energy chain.

Hazardous goods signs, TIR signs and reflective night parking signs (above) are available as optional extras. Bottom: axle lift, start-up assistance, ALP are useful pieces of additional equipment which increase efficiency and safety.

Optional light aluminium wheels reduce the vehicle’s unladen weight. Brand-name tyres are standard.

Round three-chamber lights are available in a classic design or LED version.

In accordance with § 41 Para. 14 StVZO (Road Traffic Act) stipulates that a minimum of two brake chocks are mandatory for three-axle vehicles.

The container chassis can be equipped with ferry lashings for optimal load security when used for roll-on/roll-off transport. Two, three or four pairs of ferry eyelets can be selected, depending on the type of S.CF.

S.CF GOOSENECK FX and S.CF STRAIGHT HD: Centrally positioned 20’ containers are acces-sible via the rear platform. The platform is approved for stackers with an axle load of up to 5.3 t. This increases the trailer’s versatility and your fleet’s usage.

Centrally positioned 20’ containers can be easily accessed via the short rear working platform. This platform is not approved for stacker access.

The axles, bearings, brakes, shock absorbers and pneumatic suspension are perfectly matched to ensure that every ROTOS® running gear is constructed to best meet our customers needs for exceptional driving safety and durability with low oper-ating costs.

- Six year or 1 million km waranty* for the maintenance-optimised ROTOS® DriveTechnology. This minimises the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

- 22.5” disc brakes are a standard feature. Their size ensures adequate cooling, protecting the brakes against fading and wear.

The correct tracking and smooth running of ROTOS® axles are achieved through friction welded axle stubs. This results in minimal internal stress and thus perfectly straight running.

The roll stability program (RSP) and the electronic brake system (EBS) ensure addi-tional safety in critical driving situations.

The MRH (Multi Ride Height) pneumatic suspension is a standard feature on every semi-container trailer. Regardless of the driving situation or the vehicle’s load, the MRH pneumatic suspension uses bellows supplied with compressed air to ensure that the wheels have optimal contact with the road. This suspension system provides smooth handling and protects the frame against twisting and the load against damage.

- High suspension comfort – long spring travel and excellent damping distinguish the MRH pneumatic suspension system.

- The variable vehicle height is another benefit of the MRH pneumatic suspen-sion. The container chassis can be adjus-ted to a variety of different ramp and fifth wheel heights.

- The AUTO RESET function automat-ically sets the specified ride height when driving-off. This saves time and prevents damage to the bellows.

- Large bellows handle the unique require-ments when placing and removing the containers. Rapid venting is available as an option.

The lifted axle as a starting aid* extends the wheelbase and thus increases the pressure on the drive axle.

The automatic axle lift* on the first axle protects the tyres on all of the axles and simplifies manoeuvring.

Aluminium rims and compressed air reservoirs are standard weight-saving features on all tank chassis. The S.CF 20’ TANK C is an extremely light vehicle designed for inter-modal transport. This ensures profitability and minimises the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

The S.CF 20’ TANK with a tare weight from 3480 kg and S.CF 30’ TANK with a tare weight from 3780 kg, can take a high payload.
