Resource Classes

Your Tech 411 for January: In the past few weeks, turkeys were in danger (of you know

what). It was up to 3rd – 5th grade to help these turkeys out. They were given a turkey

and had to use a graphic arts program (Kid Pix 3D) to transform or disguise the turkey, so

it would not end up as dinner. Students have their work on display at http://

teachers.stjohns.k12.fl.us/drinkuth-j/stellar-student-work/transforming-a-

turkey/ . Everyone’s work may not be complete, but they can work on it at a later time to

complete their turkey.

doing… 5th grade continues connecting chapters of our Novel Seedfolks. In 4th grade we are

beginning to write our poems to publish. We are beginning to do Haiku’s. Watch for information

Water is Water by Miranda Paul. We are going to make it rain in the classroom!

Physical Education

The students just finished learning and playing Roll With It. The game allows them to use their

math skills and run together. The game combines academics with fitness. We use dice to

compete. Every round has different math problems. For example, they sometimes add, subtract

or multiply the dice. The ‘winner’ of the dice roll gets rewarded with popsicle sticks. The goal is to win the most

sticks in each round. The ‘’loser’ of the dice roll runs one lap around the basketball court. Students run the lap with

Art News—Creating a sense of movement, using value (light and dark) to create visual form was the focus for

the polar bear one day make and take drawing project sent home before winter break. Kindergarten through

5th participated. We were all inspired by the book Five Polar Bears by Wes Nehring with inspiring artwork by

Alek Eglinton. We discussed warm and cool colors and added the Northern Lights to our sky. The mood was

set by watching the book on u-tube being sung. “It’s going to be a good day, it’s going to be a good day!” was

the refrain. We had a wonderful time creating our art in the style of Alek Eglinton. It was a good day!
