Online Summarization and Verification

3 -> File Maintenance Menu (Authorized Users)
8-> Summarize Data
11-> Global Changes (e.g. verify)
If for some reason a region is not able to summarize or verify a station for the monthly PTR
report, headquarters will need to do it for them, which will need to be done online instead of
batch because online will do individual stations where as batch will do it for the entire region.
This process if very simple; summarize, verify, and then summarize again. First go to the Traffic
Menu screen and navigate to 3-> File Maintenance, 8-> Summarize Data, and enter the data
type, PTR month, time span (month), and the station number. Then to verify go to 11-> Global
Changes and enter volume, type = 1 (verify), PTR month, station number, and directions. Lastly,
go back to 8-> Summarized Data and enter the data type, PTR month, time span (month), and the
station number. This should take care of it.

Enter the traffic station type, station number, and direction.
Enter the appropriate date range that you are inquiring about. The output will have one screen for
each day that was chosen, so in some cases a large date range cannot be an option.
This station is verified as there is no noticeable flag/error message on the top of the screen which
would read ‘***Unverified***.’
To double check and make sure that the station is truly verified, another inquiry is needed. Go

To split a traffic link, in the Roadlog Main Menu navigate to 3-> File Maintenance Menu, 4->
Detail Data, and 31-> Traffic Link. In the following screen enter the CDS route number and the
general to and from mile point for where this new traffic link will be located at. You will want to
modify the from mile point if you can. In the case of 170030 there was only one traffic link so
put your curser on the traffic link line with a ‘N’ in the verify column. Press PF8. Modify the
from mile point by changing it to mile point 1.385. Change the effective date to 20080101.
Delete the traffic link code. Press PF7-Add. This should create a new traffic link from 1.385 to
road end with an effective date of 20080101. It will also create a new traffic link code. Once you
are done creating the code verify that the new link was made by navigating to mile point 1.385 to
see if there was a new code added. Verify the new traffic link by going to the batch verify screen
in Roadlog (8-> Road Maintenance, and 5-> Verify Detail Data), input the road information and
line code 15, then press ‘Enter.’ Wait for email confirmation.

To add an AADT value for a newly added traffic link based on the Volume Report go to the
Traffic Main menu and navigate to 3-> File Maintenance and 14-> HPMS and Traffic Link
Maint. No verification of AADT change is needed. The Volume Report can be rerun to see if the
AADT shows up on the new traffic link. One reason why an AADT value is added to the new
traffic link could be that the effective date is set to the previous year. If the effective date is set to
the current year then there would be no need to add an AADT value.

Uploading Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) Data
WIM data is automatically uploaded on a daily basis to the Traffic Data Warehouse and is made
available to users online through the Highway Data Port website. Once the daily upload has
finished, a confirmation email will be generated that provides site specific information for the
day that was uploaded: vehicle count, reported hours, error count, percent error, unclassified
counts, percent unclassified counts, overweight error count, and number of errors for each error
type. To view error type definitions, refer to the IRD manual in the WIM station area. The WIM
Data Quality Report is also attached to the confirmation email. The report provides data quality
information with vehicle count and error rate per hour by date, site, and lane number, as well as a
color coded scheme for heartbeat failure, missing heartbeat, no data, and acceptable error rate
exceeded. The acceptable error rate threshold is set to 5 percent in this report; if you would like
to view the report with a different threshold, run the report from the Data Port website. An
example confirmation email is provided in Appendix 1.
Pay particular attention to high values in the ‘percent error’ and ‘hours in report’ columns when
viewing tables in the email. Depending on your preference, if there is a percent error greater than
5 or 10 percent, the reason behind the high value needs to be researched out by going into
iAnalyze software and view the data with various reports. Sometimes the full 24 hours were not
autopolled, as indicated in the ‘hour in report’ column, and it will need to be re-executed
manually to ensure the full 24 hours are being polled. A full 24 hours are required in order for
each WIM station to be considered having a good day for performance measures. If the problem
was not solved by these methods, then the IRD maintenance contractor, Danny Moose (cell 907-
632-0558; email [email protected]), may need to be contacted to fix the problem.
Auto Load Process:
1. Autopoll should be on sleep mode and automatically extract data to Raw folder
(C:\Autopoll\Raw) at 2 a.m. every morning.
If Autopoll is not running on sleep mode, then open Autopoll and navigate to
Configure Sites. Make sure the From Date is accurate and the To Date is blank
with no value. Then exit Configure Sites and go into Sleep Mode. Make sure that
the auto wake time is set for 2 a.m., the From Date is accurate, and To Date is
blank. Click on Sleep Daily.
2. Go to the Big Ben weblink: http://localhost:9000/
3. Log on with the username: traffic_dw password: wim-traf.
4. Go to New Standard Jon and click on 999 to load WIM-base tables. This will poll data
files from the Raw folder for all sites for the date range that you indicate.
5. Ignore parameters and click on the Add button.
6. Check to make sure that the Jon Runner Status is running the schedules upload.
7. Wait for email confirmation to arrive every day.
8. Check to make sure all hours are reported and the percent errors are acceptable.
9. Go to the Data Port website and make sure the data was uploaded to the website by
running the Full ASD Report.
Manual Load Process:

2. Place all selected files from the RAW folder (C:\Autopoll\Raw ) and place them in the
appropriate station folders in the WIMHDQ1 folder (C:\WIMHDQ1). Then logon to the
Big Ben website and execute loading process 990 to manually load bulk data.
3. Check to make sure that the Jon Runner Status is running the schedules upload.
4. Wait for email confirmation to arrive every day.
5. Check to make sure all hours are reported and the percent errors are acceptable.
6. Go to the Data Port website and make sure the data was uploaded to the website by
running the Full ASD Report.
Using ‘iAnalyze’ (for data quality checks):
1. Open ‘iAnalyze’.
2. Go to ‘Analyze Data’ ‘Report Wizard’.
3. Choose ‘Data Files’ (there is only one data file for each site) and go to ‘Browse’. Look
for the day you wish to look at.
4. Go to ‘Select Reports” and make sure the ‘Error By Hr’ (option 10) is marked.
5. Go to ‘Data Filters’ and make sure all lanes are checked.
6. Click on ‘Finish’.
7. Look for the percent error on bottom of page (anything lower than 5% is good). If there
are zero values or funky stuff going on, run other reports from the Select Reports tab to
see if the errors are acceptable. If the errors are persistent and not acceptable contact the
IRD maintenance contractor (Danny Moose) for questions.
8. Go back and repeat for all remaining sites.
Notes:
Extract data-Autopoll
Transfer data-iAnalyze
Load data-SQL
Automatic Load = Extract -> Autopoll (2 a.m.)-> Poll C:\Autopoll\Raw -> Transfer
(4 a.m.) -> Load with 999 command in Big Ben.
Manual Load => Transfer -> Load with 990 command in Big Ben.
There should be a shortcut to both the C:\folders on the WIM computer desktop.
The only way the regions are able to access WIM data is through Data Port, so it is
crucial that the website is available to them, especially at the beginning of each month
when the regions download the full ASD files and upload them to HAS by the 15th
.
