SMMP Presents Managing Injuries Following Traffic Accidents Using A Best Evidence Approach Report of Findings from The OPTIMA Collaboration Regina Saskatchewan October 1, 2016 Wascana Rehab Centre Auditorium 2180-23 rd Avenue Regina SK S4S 0A5 October 1, 2016 Welcome It is a pleasure to invite you to attend another in our series of evidence based management conferences. The Society of Musculoskeletal Manual Practitioners of Saskatchewan (SMMP) is a multidisciplinary group of professionals who are interested in managing health care conditions according to the best evidence. The SMMP (SK) promotes interdisciplinary effective and cost – effective case management of musculoskeletal conditions through advancement of such principles as early activation, conditioning, functional restoration, and education about lifestyle issues, in a best – evidence – based manner. This conference will provide a venue to look at best evidence management of injuries following traffic accidents. The Ontario Protocol for Traffic Injury Management (OPTIMa) included a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, academics and scientists, a patient liaison, a retired judge and experts from the automobile insurance industry. The objective was to develop Care Pathways that promote recovery from common traffic injuries. This was achieved through carrying out a comprehensive and detailed review of the most current scientific literature and by conducting qualitative research with patients receiving health care for injuries from traffic collisions. 1 We are pleased to have 5 of the senior scientists who managed this project, to come and provide an overview of their research. You will learn about what works and what does not, and which approaches to management are best supported by the scientific evidence. The OPTIMa research was carried out using data from traffic injuries. However, similarities can be drawn to the injured worker population and musculoskeletal conditions in other injured groups. Please join us on October 1 st , 2016 at the theatre at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina.
