Advantages:The publisher assigns an editor(s) to your project.

Disadvantages:

Editor may want to change your story

Your hands are a bit tied (if you refuse to make certain changes the publisher may not want to work with you)

EDITING: Indie

Advantages:Complete control over your project

Disadvantages:

Professional editing services can be expensive

You are totally responsible for the content

BOOK COVER: Traditional

Advantages:You have an entire art department behind you

Disadvantages:

You have little to no say over your book cover

A terrible cover can hurt sales

BOOK COVER: Indie

Advantages:Gimp is a free, easy to use program

Complete control over your own cover

Disadvantages:

Making your own cover can be hard

Professional graphic artists can be expensive

STORY CONTENT: Traditional

Advantages:Professionals can keep you from making a huge mistake

Disadvantages:

An editor may change your story

An editor may change your title

Advantages:It is totally your baby

You are in control

Disadvantages:

When you are too close to something, you can miss huge mistakes

MARKETING: Traditional

Advantages:The publisher probably has more money to spend on marketing

The publisher knows how to market the bookDisadvantages:

Most publishers spend the money on famous writers

A publisher probably won't put in much time on your little title

MARKETING: Indie

Advantage:It's your baby, and you want it to succeed

Disadvantage:

It's hard to do it all yourself

If you don't have the funds, marketing becomes even harder
