Christmas is Britain's most popular festival, which is characterized in that it is back to a tradition hundreds of years ago. The first Christmas card was started in England in 1840,

Christmas decorations in general have a more long-standing origin. Significance of religious etiquette with holly branches（冬青枝） , ivy （常春藤） , mistletoe （槲寄生 ), in Europe, the Middle Ages had been used as decoration (the custom of kissing under a tree in the mistletoe from the pagan tradition).

St. George‘s Day is April 23, mainly celebrated in the place where people view St. George as patron saint. In the UK, this is also a national holiday. Tradition view that St. George died in AD 300 April 23, this day. St. George's Day began from the early fifteenth century and was once as important as Christmas holiday.

April 30 is known as "Beltane" or "May Eve." This is a harvest celebration of land, livestock yield season. It is undoubtedly the most ancient European spring festival and one of the most important holiday. It is said that the name of this festival is a means "bright holy fire" in the evolution of Celtic words. It is a festival to celebrate the spring flowers blooming scene.

• Candlemas began as a Roman festival to celebrate the return of spring. It is now a Scottish legal "quarter day" when rents and other payments fall due.

• Half the winter was over at Yowl (Christmas)

This used to be an excuse for youngsters to go round begging for sweets, money or fruit, while older brothers and sisters tried to find a sweetheart. "Name-papers" were sometimes used where names were written and placed in a bonnet and each person drew out a paper. If the same name was drawn three times, it meant a marriage would take place!

Saint Dwynwen is the patron saint of Welsh lovers. 25 January is the Day of Saint Dwynwen when Welsh lovers send cards to each other.

25 January

Dwynwen was the daughter of Brychan, king of Wales during the 5th century. She was known to be beautiful, religious and pure. A man called Maelon fell in love with her and wanted to marry her. Even though its said that Dwynwen loved him, she rejected him because she wanted to become a nun. She took a magic potion, which saved her from his attentions, but turned him to ice. She knew Maelon loved her, so she prayed that he be restored to life. Dwynwen then became a nun and went to live on Llanddwyn Island.

This day in 589 AD is known as the traditional date of the death of St David, the patron saint of Wales .

1 March圣大卫日

A well-known story of Davids is when he stood upto speak at a very large congregation at a place called Llanddewi Brefi. One of the crowd shouted, “we won’t be able to see or hear him”. Then, the ground he stoodon rose up so he could be seen by everyone. He has known to have lived for over 100 years and was buried in the grounds of his own monastery, where the Cathedral of St. David now stands. Welsh peoplemark St David’s Day by wearing a daffodil or a leek ontheir clothes.
