Traditional Dresses of Gilgit Baltistan

Short Introduction

Gilgit Baltistan region posseses an attraction in its Unique multiculture and traditions. It comprises of mainly 7 districts with different local languages, costumes, cultural dances and dress which distinguish the entire Gilgit Baltistan from other parts of the country

Caps

The customs of wearing caps by the women members of these areas have a unique feature of its cultural heritage

Phartsun\ Nating

Women caps are basically three types

Hunza Cap Iraghi Cap

Jewelry pieces The piece of jewelry worn in the front of iraghat phartsun called SILLA Burushaski TUMAR Balti which is madeof Pure Silver.

This is mainly use in the place of “TEKA” which is use usually wear by the women of subcontinent under the shall.

Men caps.

Male members of this area also use to wear different stuff of woolen phatsun (caps) they consider it as a honour for them

• Sheen Cast (Gilgiti) usually wear Pathani cap KHOI

• Balti peoples use a spherical shape cap NATING

Men usually wear two types of caps:

KHOI

Like women the custom of decorating caps is also common in man specially during events like dancing each of them use to decorate caps according to their own desire and taste

The people of Hunza and Baltistan usually adorn a flower on the front side of the cap while the Sheens use a Far on the front of the cap

The trational balti dress are colourfull mostly red having silver or golden boundaries In these type of dresses there is a small opening from each elbows which are use to put out their hands for washing clothes

For winter season a special sweater Rugune Gone is used which is made up of wool or cotton which is decorated with different handicrafts from the front side.

HUNZA \ GILGIT

The women of Hunza\Gilgit wear dresses usually loose, colorful and FRAQ type little difference that these type dresses are short with colorful bounders and usually not fitting from upper side

Hunza: Caps with flower at the front side Woolen Robe having long sleeves A colourfull belt tied up along the waist known as Oshchum Woolen socks and shoes known Huchu.

Gilgit:

White Caps with a Far Gamburi at the front side Shalwar Qameez. Long Cloak Chugha which may be short or in jaket style

Baltistan

: 

A cone shape cap known as Nating usually white is wear A kamarband known as Skerakh usually tight on the inside of the Shuqa A small piece of shall also used to hang over the shoulder or neck.

The Royal dress;

The royal dress of Gilgit Baltistan was use to wear by Raja of these area which is embroidered with gold or silver from the front side
