YMCA of Greater Des Moines - Traditional Day Camp

Join us for one week or an entire summer of fun! A different theme each week, including experiential field trips. Swimming and swim instruction are available.

Costs

We’ve kept our costs the same for 2019! And financial assistance is available for

those who qualify; contact your YMCA branch for details. $150/week for YMCA members; $195/week for non-members

Additional child: $125/week for members; $170/week for nonmembers

Week of July 1st (no camp July 4th): $120/member, $156/nonmember Additional child: $95/member, $131/nonmember

Week 6 (Adventureland trip): $185/member, $230 nonmember No discount for additional children this week

Week 1 Get Your Head in the Game June 3-7 Join us in kicking off summer with a fun-filled week of sports, competitions and

wacky relays. Week 2 Creative Campers June 10-14

This week of camp is designed to bring out the creativity in every child. We will explore famous creative minds and create new and unusual works of art.

Week 3 Gettin’ Dirty June 17-21 Explore the great outdoors and the community in which we live. We will learn

how we can protect our environment and get dirty discovering animals.

Week 4 Amazing Athletes June 24-28 Get ready to talk all things sports and learn about famous athletes during this

week of camp. We will also try new sports and learn how to be a team player.

Week 5 Time Travelers July 1-5

Let’s go back in time and discover what life was like in the past. We will look at how people dressed, the foods they ate and how they lived. (No camp July 4th)

Week 6 Thrill Chasers July 8-12 We are about to have fun and go on adventures! Join us as we take a trip to

Adventureland and discover new and exciting thrills. Week 7 Surf’s Up, Dude! July 15-19

Get ready to have fun in the sun! We will discover new and crazy ways to play with water and learn how to be safe in and around water.

Week 8 Kids With Capes July 22-26

We will teach campers all about giving back and how good it can make us feel. Campers will work on various service projects helping local organizations.

Week 9 Inventor’s Workshop July 29-Aug. 2 Campers will use their imaginations to create new objects using various

materials. We will also learn about working as a team. Week 10 Heroes of Healthy Habits Aug. 5-9

Our focus is to help campers make healthy choices and discover fun ways to include exercise every day.

Week 11 Camp Mash-Up Aug. 12-16 Let’s end this summer with a bang by mixing it up! Campers will play new and

unusual games while incorporating all their favorite sports into one!

YMCA of Greater Des Moines - Preschool Camps

Half-day Preschool Camps create an atmosphere of fun and learning for our littlest campers. Weekly themes guide activities in both small- and large-group settings,

with an emphasis on providing opportunities for children to grow intellectually, socially and emotionally. All campers must be potty-trained.

Summer 2019

Week 1 Arts Alive! June 3-7 Unleash your little artist on a creative adventure! Try painting with bubbles, clay

creations and leaf collages. Week 2 Nature Unleashed June 10-14

Send your little explorer on a nature scavenger hunt, create thunderstorm art or learn how to use recycled products in a fun way with this nature-centered camp.

Week 3 Sports of All Sorts June 17-21 We have sports of all sorts at this active camp! Your little camper will try out a

hoop circle relay, learn soccer skills and even participate in a medal ceremony.

Week 4 Space Rangers June 24-28 Explore outer space! Discover moon sand, build a balloon rocket and create your

own constellation!

Week 5 Let’s All Move July 1-5

Get the wiggles out with our movin’ and groovin’ week! We will have dance parties, build musical instruments and create art with movement (No camp July 4th)

Week 6 No preschool camp this week July 8-12

Week 7 Artistic Creations July 15-19 Your pint-sized Picasso will get to explore different art mediums like molding

clay, tree bark rubbings and water colors!

Week 8 Inventor’s Workshop July 22-26 Send your little engineer to create Lego blueprints, design plastic egg

parachutes and even build a tinfoil bridge! Week 9 Heroes and Helpers July 29-Aug. 2

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes! We will discover Hulk Green Slime and make our own superhero capes. We will also recognize our community heroes

and helpers like firefighters and police officers. Week 10 Under the Sea Adventures Aug. 5-9

Discover ocean wonders with squid bowling, crab walk obstacle course and flying fish catch. It will be more than just a day on the beach!

Half-Day Enrichment Programs

Waukee Family YMCA These half-day camps allow children to explore specialized areas of interest. Camps

are located at the Waukee Family YMCA, 210 N. Warrior Lane in Waukee.

Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon (Drop-off begins at 8:45 a.m.)

Cost: $70/week for YMCA members; $110/week for non-members

Ages: For children who have completed Kindergarten-5th Grade

Camp Schedule and Descriptions Get Cookin’ June 10-14

Create your own masterpiece in the kitchen! Children will learn culinary terms and techniques, make fun, healthy foods and experiment with crazy cuisines.

Bigger, Faster, Stronger June 17-21 Channel your inner ninja warrior! Children will jump, swing, climb, hang, leap,

balance and roll their way through indoor and outdoor obstacle courses.

Artrageous June 24-28 We will get creative, get messy and have fun making art! This unique, hands-on program introduces young artists to a variety of media.

Icky Sticky Stuff July 8-12

Are you slime-crazy? If so, this is the place to be! Put on your lab coats and get ready to experiment in this hands-on, STEAM-a-riffic science adventure.

Twist and Shout July 15-19 Your child will flip over this program! We will learn the fundamentals of cheering

with chants, cheers, dance, tumbling and group formations, culminating with a performance on Friday.

Under Construction July 22-26 Bring out your inner engineer for a week of hands-on STEM activities. Children will

imagine, design and build individual and group projects, including bridges, boats, towers, vehicles and robots.

Spectacular Scientists July 29-Aug. 2 Shake up a flask of fun in the lab. Experience kinetic fun this week as we mix it,

bubble it, pop it or (safely) blow it up!

Sports Clinics

For children ages 6-12. Open to boys and girls at every ability level, from beginner to experienced athlete. Every clinic program is based on the Y’s core values of

Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Participants learn fundamentals of the sport and the importance of teamwork, fair play and most of all – having fun! These

clinics are a great lead-in to participating in team sports at the Y.
