Trade in Hippopotamus amphibius from Malawi 1 (Version edited for public release) Following SRG 59 discussions on trade in Hippopotamus amphibius from Malawi, UNEP-WCMC was requested to provide an overview of the trade data for this species/country combination. Trade data were extracted on 10 th December 2012 and the relevant annual reports were also checked. No direct trade in Hippopotamus amphibius from Malawi to the EU-27 was reported 2001-2011. Indirect trade to the EU-27 in Hippopotamus amphibius originating in Malawi 2001-2011 consisted mainly of wild-sourced teeth traded for commercial purposes (Table 1). All trade was re-exported via South Africa. Direct trade in Hippopotamus amphibius from Malawi to countries other than the EU-27 2001-2011 primarily comprised teeth traded for commercial purposes (Table 2). The main importer was South Africa.
