Who Benefits from Certification?

TPF TechniciansTPF Technicians, who would seek to be certified, by providing formal recognition of specialized skills and abilities, opportunities for career advancement, improved portability of marketable skills, new educational options, and enhanced compensation advantages.

TPF EmployersTPF Employers, who could set formal criteria for identifying key technical employees and skills, better evaluate the effectiveness of training providers, and have measurable criteria for identifying and hiring qualified employees and contractors.

TPF EducatorsTPF Educators who would be providing training in support of TPF Certification.

Task Force Goals

To determine specific disciplines for technical certification in TPF. (i.e. applications, systems, performance, communications, etc.)

To determine levels of expertise for certification (programmer, engineer, architect, fellow, etc.)

To review existing classes and create syllabi that will aid TPF professionals in choosing training classes that will be valuable in gaining certification.

To recommend new classes to the TPF training community that will help students gain certification.

To recommend the order in which the IBM should create the certification tests.

What Next?

Open discussion to address known issues and bring up new issues, including:– Standard measurement of qualifications.– Areas of specialization and certification.– How and where would testing be done? At the TPFUG? At

key IBM locations? At key TPF customer locations? Looking for volunteers to form and lead sub-teams

(broken up into TPF discipline) to address the individual TPF disciplines for certification and determine the syllabi for certification and report back to the Task Force.
